Undead Beast Master: Living Solely for My Desires

Chapter 360: Wings of Reckoning

His mind raced, thinking what his next move was going to be. After a few seconds of consideration, his eyes narrowed.

"What about Eldros?" he asked, worry evident in his voice. Even if the man was strong, he was a human at the end of the day. After battling for so long against seemingly endless waves of enemies, he must be close to exhaustion.

"He is fine," Midnight reassured him, pointing with her finger in the distance.

Following her gesture, Zaroth saw that Eldros was resting with his legs crossed one over the other.

Thanks to Midnight's numerous minions battling against the Crimson Sun forces, he didn't need to fight anymore.

Their numbers had been thinned down a little, and if one also took into account the mystical battle that was happening between the two beasts and the sudden arrival of the Graveborn undead army trying to conquer the capital of the Crimson Sun Empire, their morale had plummeted, making them not that much of a threat anymore.

'At least he would be well-rested, unlike me.' Zaroth thought, letting out a sigh of relief.

"Midnight," after a few moments he parted his lips. A plan—even if a reckless one—had been formed in his mind.

"I am going to the Graveborn Empire. I want you to bring Eldros to me. Can I count on you?"

Hearing the request, Midnight scoffed, "Oh, tell me, am I not the perfect girlfriend to exist?" she asked, puffing her chest in pride.

'Even in a situation such as this one, she can still be playful,' Zaroth's eyes widened in amazement.

He really liked her. It was a shame that she would soon depart to her home.

Putting his right hand behind her head, he moved his lips next to hers. She was momentarily startled, leading her to blush from the unexpected gesture.

"Yeah, you are," he released a chuckle, "now go!"

With a silent nod, she put him back on the ground and flew toward Eldros.

Being left alone again, Zaroth gazed at Luna still locked in battle.

"If things continue, my mana will soon run out," he shook his head. What he was about to do seemed like something out of a fairy tale, but in his current state, he couldn't think of a better alternative.

'Come!' he commanded using their mental link.

Luna's eyes narrowed for a brief moment, surprised by the command but compelled nonetheless.

With a roar, she changed her course of flight. With a graceful flap of her wings, she soared through the skies, going below the colossal body of the magma serpent.

Zaroth, in turn, broke into a sprint. It wasn't like the magma serpent was going to wait for the dragon to pick up her master.

Reaching the end of the roof he was standing on, he jumped as high as he could, tensing his muscles to the max.

Fortunately, he had timed the movement precisely as Luna reached his position in time and he landed on her back.

"Higher!" he gripped her bones with all his might and commanded.

Complying, Luna began to rise higher into the sky.

ROOOAAAAAARRR

The magma serpent almost reached them, but Luna was faster as she managed to reach higher altitude.

From his current elevation, Zaroth had an even better view of the battle.

At least tens of thousands of soldiers lay on the ground lifeless, all thanks to Eldros and Midnight.

"I really am lucky," he muttered. The only reason he'd been able to defeat the council was because his friends had kept the army occupied. If he'd been forced to fight them with their full support, his chances of winning would've been almost zero.

Then he briefly surveyed the place from where the undead army had come. They had taken the Crimson Sun forces by surprise, managing to kill countless soldiers.

What was worse was that now these soldiers stood fighting against their own old comrades, still wearing their armor.

However, Zaroth didn't have much free time to inspect how much devastation had been caused in the area. A loud thunderclap echoed across the capital. The magma serpent had risen from the ground once again and was shooting at their location, trying to kill them both.

"Let's go," Zaroth spoke. Opening her jaws and letting out a devastating roar, Luna began to fly over the two armies that were locked into battle.

"What is that?!"

"IT'S COMING!"

If the Crimson Sun forces weren't already in a bad situation after suddenly finding themselves fighting an army of undead, a shadow passed over them. Luna, not bothered by the destruction below, flew overhead.

What cornered the soldiers, however, wasn't the dragon but the being that followed after her.

ROOOAAAAAARRR

Panic and fear began to seep deep into the souls of the soldiers. They began abandoning their posts and starting to run for their lives.

But it was too late for most of them.

BOOM

The colossal serpent hit the ground and began to bury itself deep in it, yet the mere shockwaves it caused when it collided with the ground lifted thousands of men high in the air out of the sheer power of the impact.

An eerie silence followed. That didn't last long, however, as the ground shook once more and the split opened. The mythical beast appeared once more, going straight for Zaroth and his dragon.

"Holy shit," Zaroth cursed softly. Seeing something so big chasing you was something akin to a nightmare.

'I can go faster,' Luna suddenly spoke up.

Zaroth really wanted to tell her to do so, but stopped himself, seeing a dot in the distance.

Midnight was flying as fast as possible while holding Eldros. If Luna were to fly faster, the vampire would not catch up to them.

ROOOAAAAAARRR

The serpent let out another roar, getting even closer.

"This is batshit insane!" Eldros cursed, yet his body remained unmoving. He knew if he were to start swinging his arms and legs like a madman, this would only slow down Midnight.

"Agree," Midnight muttered, sparing a glance at the serpent. She was basically racing against a mythical beast!

But she knew that Zaroth relied on her, so she gritted her teeth, her eyes glowing even more crimson as she sped up.

"Just a little more!" Zaroth shouted to them both. They were just a few meters away from reaching them.

But the same could be said about the being that was chasing them.

ROOOAAAAAARRR

"Made it!" At the last moment, Midnight reached Luna and dropped onto her back, letting go of Eldros.

"LUNA!" Zaroth shouted, his voice cracking due to the pressure.

Immediately, she sped up, managing to dodge the attack of the serpent.

The serpent spat lava, trying to hit them, but failed miserably thanks to Luna's graceful movements.

Now that they began to pick up speed, the colossal being began to seem smaller due to the distance, but it never stopped trying to catch up to them.

"What is the plan now?" After emptying out his lunch, Eldros asked between ragged breaths.

"From the looks of things, the Graveborn Empire holds the advantage. If they dared to attack the Crimson Sun Empire, it must mean that they are confident to take them down—as well as the Draconian Empire," Zaroth concluded. "So we have to get rid of them as well."

"And, pray tell, how do we do this?" Midnight asked. Her eyes seemed tired—she must have no doubt used most of her energy. She had halted an army of a million soldiers and then raced with a mythical beast while carrying Eldros.

"With this guy!" Zaroth proclaimed, pointing at the magma serpent that was still following them.

Midnight, Eldros, and even Luna had to blink a few times, doubting if they had heard Zaroth's words correctly. Had the man gone insane? But after the shock settled, they began to see his point.

Truly, from the looks of it, the beast wasn't keen on letting them go—so why don't they use the opportunity?

"That is good, but you are overlooking one issue," Midnight spoke, managing to sit, her breathing ragged. "We are exhausted beyond belief. We managed going against an empire, but going against a second one so soon after?"

Zaroth simply shook his head. "This might be the case for me and Eldros, but not for you," he spoke.

"What do you mean?" Midnight questioned with a raised eyebrow.

Zaroth started to undress. "Simple," he said with a grin. "You're going to suck me dry."
