Chapter 366: Serpent’s Wrath
Once the two fell to the ground, Zaroth immediately became a shadow. In this form, he was not only unaffected by the material world but was harder to bind in one place—Ragnar was still able to use shadow hands to bind his foes, after all.
With a dazing speed, he positioned himself to his foe's blind spot and swung with his trusty odachi.
"You aren't getting the incentive," Ragnar muttered coldly, stopping Zaroth's attack.
Once, twice, thrice.
Each time Ragnar swung, the world lost color for a fraction of a second. Each of his hits was devastating and yet, Zaroth matched his foe's strength perfectly.
This wasn't like last time when he needed to rely on his beasts for support. Now that his mana core had reached the Epic-tier and was equipped with the skill Shadow Travel under his arsenal, his power had increased exponentially.
The swift mobility granted by Nightshade's skill, combined with the battle style he had learned from Eldros, made for a deadly combination.
So deadly that even Ragnar, a master swordsman, found himself struggling to keep up with Zaroth.
"What's wrong? I thought you were some big shot," Zaroth taunted, trying to probe an opening.
Unfortunately for him, however, Ragnar's armor proved too tough for him to pierce. It was made out of truly resilient materials.
'Then I guess this will be a battle of endurance,' Zaroth concluded. While this wasn't necessarily in his favor, as he still had to supply his beasts with mana, he didn't really have much choice in the matter.
While the two figures were fighting at about even ground, another fight was taking place—this one much more one-sided.
Eldros had never really fought with beasts as his allies, yet today he learned they made quite the good pair. Was it because Eldros was technically Zaroth's slave, so his beasts had some kind of connection with his as well?
"Well, thanks to them I am alive… somehow," he chuckled bitterly, barely able to keep up with the attacks the Dullahan was unleashing.
Before the silent being, it looked like nothing one did would amount to anything. Zaroth's beasts—even Nightshade, that was of the Epic-tier—was unable to put even a dent on the creature's armor.
Not to mention even if they did, it was already dead. How would one be able to kill it? It wasn't like a skeleton with a head that you could crush to kill. Nor was it a fragile zombie that you could disintegrate into nothing.
This was an entity that one struggled to put even the faintest of dents in, much less destroy it!
'I need a plan,' Eldros thought, eyes narrowing. Countless possible solutions came to mind, yet not a single one was proving to be effective. In fact, the only reason he had lasted up until now was all thanks to the Divine Eye that was above him. While it managed to slow down the Dullahan somewhat, it didn't do the same to Zaroth's beasts.
In the end, all Eldros could do was hope to stall the enemy for long enough for his master—the necromancer—to perish, taking all his undead creatures with it.
Out of the three fights going on, only David was having an easy time. He had bested Rynor twice now, so he was quite familiar with his attack pattern.
And if one were to take into account that he had become even stronger as well, it made it into an easy fight.
'That doesn't mean I can just relax,' David thought, eyes scanning the whole area. While Zaroth and Eldros were engaged in their own fights, the two mythical beasts had begun to clash, destroying a large area around them.
'Would his mana hold?' David worried. To fight Ragnar while using all of his beasts simultaneously must have begun to drain Zaroth's mana reserves greatly.
"I have to finish this fight," he continued, intensifying his attacks against Rynor.
*****
Ear-piercing roars echoed across the Gravebron's capital. The two great beasts clashed against one another, not caring about the damage to their surroundings.
Opening its maw, the magma serpent shot hot lava towards Luna, who in turn performed graceful maneuvers around the attack and landed on the creature's blind side, unharmed.
She focused her strength in her claws. A second later, another roar escaped the magma serpent's maw—this one, however, was due to the pain it was feeling.
Luna had successfully managed to tear a part of its obsidian scales and drew the creature's blood.
This injury, however, wasn't going to be healed easily. Since the magma serpent had let its fury control its movements, it had decided to chase Luna all this way with the intention to make her pay for daring to hurt it.
And so, the volcano—the one force that could aid and heal it—was nowhere in sight.
The more the two mythical beasts fought above the old castle, more and more blood began to fall.
Even the smallest of drops that landed on the castle's structure began to melt it due to their high temperature.
'Almost there!' Luna, knowing she didn't have much time to fight before her master's mana ran out, made a risky maneuver.
She flew low to the ground and landed directly on the castle's body.
Roooaaaaaarrr
The second she did that, the serpent's golden eyes shined. Not willing to let this chance get away, the beast brought down its whole body, head focused on the dragon, ready to devour it in one bite before it rose high in the sky again.
Due to its reckless behavior, however, it wasn't able to adjust in time when she flew just before the impact happened.
BOOM
A thunderclap echoed. The foundation of the castle broke into pieces under the might of the mythical beast.
'Bingo!' Luna's eyes quickly observed the scene. Her gaze halted on a figure that appeared different from the normal man. He was pale… too pale, almost like a ghost.
Clearly, he rarely stepped outside. Necromancers had a fondness for solitude—and a hatred for sunlight.
What gave away his status the most, however, was the room he was in. True, it might be mostly destroyed, yet it was still clear that this was a throne room.
With no hesitation, Luna released a devastating inferno towards the emperor of the Graveborn Empire.
She was about to kill him!
