Chapter 765: Now What?
Villain Ch 765. Now What?
"Ouch, that stings," Allen muttered under his breath, clenching his teeth against the pain. He quickly scrambled back to his feet, adopting a defensive stance as he prepared for the next onslaught. The ground beneath him bore the evidence of his landing, a visible crack marking the spot where he had collided with the earth.
Despite the discomfort and the minor injuries he had sustained, Allen remained focused. The successful strike he had managed to land on the emperor had provided him with a valuable clue – the realization that the emperor was actually the Doppelganger, controlled by none other than Emma.
With renewed resolve, Allen tightened his grip on his blades. But then, an announcement appeared in front of him.
[VirtualValkyrie has been successfully killed!]
[Congratulations! You have completed your quest!]
'Phew, mission accomplished,' Allen thought with a sense of relief washing over him. Finally, he had managed to uncover the truth about the Doppelganger and put an end to its rampage. But as he glanced around at the other players still lingering in the area, Allen realized that his task wasn't quite over yet.
'Now what?' Allen pondered, his mind racing as he searched for a suitable course of action. He knew that he couldn't simply drop the act, not with so many eyes still on him and screen recorder recording his every move. It was time to come up with a smooth exit strategy, something that would allow him to slip away unnoticed while maintaining his cover.
He had put on quite the show, showcasing his skills in combat against the villains. Landing two scratches on Vivian, one on Larissa, and even managing to nick the devil emperor – it was a performance that had caught the attention of many. And it almost exposed their act since Jane was suddenly excited because of that.
If it weren't for Zoe, who quickly intervened and brought Jane back to reality, things might have taken a rather awkward turn. Allen couldn't help but chuckle inwardly at the thought. It seemed that Jane's penchant for dark romance novels or perhaps her fascination with BDSM.
Despite the close call, Allen felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that his efforts had effectively maintained his cover. His strategic maneuvers and calculated attacks had not only deceived but had also kept the other players none the wiser about his true identity.
The emperor's eyes bored into Allen's, and he could practically feel the intensity of that stare burning into his soul. It was like the digital representation of the devil emperor had somehow managed to channel real emotion, and Allen wasn't exactly thrilled about it.
It was clear that whatever Allen had done had seriously ticked off Emma. Allen mentally winced, picturing his sister's furious expression lurking behind the intimidating avatar of the emperor.
"You, assassin," the devil emperor hissed, the word slithering out of his mouth like a snake ready to strike. Allen swallowed hard, trying to maintain his composure in the face of such open hostility. "You surely have the skills. I will spare your life as your reward," he continued.
The emperor's promise of sparing Allen's life didn't exactly fill him with confidence. It sounded more like a thinly veiled threat disguised as a reward."But when we meet again," the emperor continued, his voice low and menacing, "I will make sure you get a brutal death."
Allen held his attack stance, his eyes locked onto the emperor, expecting the battle to rage on or at least for Emma to give him a piece of her mind. But to his surprise, nothing happened. It was like the calm after the storm, except it felt more like the eerie silence before a hurricane.
He couldn't help but wonder if Emma was plotting some epic revenge behind the scenes. Then again, that last Telekinesis Blast could definitely be counted as payback for whatever had ticked her off in the first place.
A sudden disturbance ruptured the silence. A rift tore open behind the devil emperor, crackling with dark energy as it split the fabric of the digital world. The portal shimmered ominously, its edges pulsating with an otherworldly glow that sent shivers down the players' spines.
One by one, the villains began to leave, their sinister figures silhouetted against the swirling darkness. But it was the devil emperor who held Allen's gaze, his eyes burning with a silent promise of retribution. As the last of his minions disappeared into the abyss, the emperor paused, casting a final glance in Allen's direction.
It was a look filled with disdain and simmering fury, a silent warning that echoed louder than any words could.
In that fleeting moment, Allen felt the weight of the emperor's displeasure bearing down on him like a leaden cloak. It was as if the emperor was saying, "Wait for my revenge," without uttering a single syllable. And then, with a swirl of his dark robes, the devil emperor vanished into the depths of the portal.
Allen couldn't help but suppress another internal cringe as he watched the devil emperor and his minions disappear into the ominous portal. 'I bet she is planning to get her revenge in the real world,' he mused silently to himself. He could already picture Emma's face, her eyes narrowed in frustration as she berated him for his recklessness.
And of course, he'd have to come up with some smooth-talking excuse to coax her out of her bad mood once again.
But this time, Allen knew it wouldn't be easy. It was bad enough that Emma had suffered defeat once before, but now it was her second loss, and Allen had managed to land a hit on the devil emperor despite the glaring power gap between their avatars.
Emma was always the competitive one, driven by a fierce determination to succeed. And while Allen admired her tenacity, it also meant that he would find himself on the receiving end of her frustration when things didn't go according to plan. Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire
