Chapter 109: Confrontation With Vampire Queen [1]
What we were shown by the summoner Penny was the defeat of the Seventh Guerrilla Unit. It was the first time we had clearly witnessed the loss of allies.
It was somewhat shocking.
However, Gano's final moments were extremely mysterious.
I can't imagine that old man choosing suicide out of fear. But if not fear, then what possible benefit could there be to ending his life at that moment?
It seemed like he had some purpose behind it...
We asked Penny to show us the footage several times. And what I noticed wasn't about Gano—but rather about Zerack's final attack.
"I see. Gano took his own life to conceal this."
"My lord…"
"What will you do, Liora? You may retreat here, or you can choose to challenge Yoyo. The choice is yours."
"...I will…"
Even if she's an NPC, this is too heavy a decision to place on a child.
But ultimately, this decision has to be left to Liora. Forcing her to fight with a damaged heart, or letting the enemy escape—both are painful choices.
Even as a revered god, making this decision alone feels wrong.
Liora looked at me with eyes wavering not from blind devotion, but from hesitation. But soon, as if steeling herself, she whispered fearfully:
"I... will fight."
"Very well. Then let us resume the war."
It was then that our re-entry into the battle was decided.
Prince Alex had already begun preparations to withdraw. He had said he'd hold off if Liora accepted the mission to assassinate Yoyo—but she had left midway.
Penny went to deliver the message to Alex.
In the meantime, we restocked our supplies at the [Ideal Atelier]. This time, we also brought along the top-tier golem, Seck, as part of our forces.
We were fully prepared to kill Yoyo. Though, of course, we planned to retreat if necessary.
Once all preparations were complete, Jack Jack and the others arrived as well.
"Lady Liora."
The sharp-eyed old man sliced off his lush beard with a saber. As the white hair danced in the wind, Jack Jack spoke in a low voice.
"If you're truly set on storming Yoyo's castle, then I ask you take me with you. Yoyo must die by my hand."
"...Do as you like. I'll just fulfill my duty."
"You lost a companion to Yoyo, didn't you? But Lady Liora, please do not let yourself be consumed by revenge."
"...I'm going to kill her. That's all."
"Hmm."
Jack Jack, now clean-shaven, reached for his beard out of habit and stroked the empty air. He chuckled bitterly.
At that moment, sparks rose in the night sky—Prince Alex's signal agreeing to support the plan. Using that as our cue, we launched our infiltration into enemy territory.
The vampire Ren, one of the three knights, appeared to have been a former prince. He shared the Eden name with Alex, but after failing to become heir, he rebelled.
Apparently, he was defeated and then picked up by Yoyo, who turned him into a vampire.
Like Alex, Ren seemed to specialize in command-based skills.
He led his forces with impeccable coordination—moving like a single living creature, surging and feinting as one to devour their enemies.
Amidst the intense battle, we secretly infiltrated Yoyo's mansion.
Liora, Jack Jack, and later Seck, were the ones to enter. Anyone else likely would've been detected due to their lack of stealth skills.
Jack Jack possessed the skill [Stealth Maneuver 100].
Incidentally, Seck had the cheat skill [Helper].
This [Helper] skill is exclusive to the head maid class.
Its effect is: "Copy another's skill." There is a requirement: the target must give permission to use the skill.
However, since Seck is a golem, I have programmed her to interpret any sound—be it a groan or scream—as affirmative when she asks, "May I assist you with [Helper]?"
[Helper] prioritizes the user's perception.
Therefore, Seck can use skills freely. With her skill level at 70, she can replicate all copied skills at level 70.
A skill level of 70 is more than sufficient for actual combat.
Thus, we were able to infiltrate unnoticed while the enemy forces were distracted. Liora handled the external techniques.
The mansion was desolate.
Most of the staff had gone to the battlefield.
According to our investigation, Yoyo was resting in the innermost chamber of the mansion. We aimed to launch a surprise attack there—but it wouldn't be that easy.
Just then, a noble-looking vampire appeared around the corner.
"Hmm," Jack Jack narrowed his eyes. "That's Ren, one of the three knights. But he should be in the middle of commanding his forces."
"Simple," Ren muttered.
His gloomy, yet heavy presence was reminiscent of Alex.
"This is one of my unique skills. I merely stationed a degraded clone of myself here."
"Foolish vampire, revealing your own hand," Jack Jack scoffed.
"Hmph. Maybe so."
Ren sneered and brushed his elegant hair with his fingers.
"Now, under the premise that this body is just a clone, I have a proposal. Would you kindly leave? I don't believe you can defeat Lady Yoyo. There's no point. I dislike pointless battles."
"Then why don't you step aside, Ren?" Jack Jack retorted.
"I am still a servant, you see. I can't just let enemies pass. But fighting me is pointless—I'm just a clone. Let's not waste effort."
"Strange words from someone who once sought the throne."
"I never sought the throne. I only did my duty as royalty... well, never mind. You're all stubborn. Let's fight."
Ren shrugged, and summoned his subordinates from his shadow. Apparently, he had the ability to transport allies with him.
Five vampires stood behind him in formation.
"Lady Liora."
Jack Jack glanced at her from the side.
"May I leave this to you? Prince Alex's decoy tactic is on a time limit, after all."
Yes—this battle comes with a strict time limit.
We must eliminate Yoyo as swiftly as possible. That's why Ren, even as a clone, is an extremely troublesome obstacle.
Leaving someone behind to deal with him and moving forward is a valid choice.
Liora seemed to understand this as well. She puffed up her cheeks and glared at Jack Jack. It looked like she was more eager to start an argument with him than to fight Ren.
So I gave the command to Liora.
"Liora, summon Samurai. Let Samurai and Seck handle this."
"Samurai… will defeat the enemy with Seck."
'——'
Liora gave a small nod.
Samurai and Seck stepped forward. In response, Ren shrugged with a troubled look and ran his fingers through his beautiful hair.
"So even my clone can't stop you, huh. Well, at least I can say I tried. I'll settle for having left some proof that I did my part. Just leave the elf girl and the golem behind."
Ren spoke casually, almost indifferently.
Liora and Jack Jack dashed forward. Just as they passed Ren, he suddenly launched a fierce kick.
A blow aimed directly at Liora's face—an attack meant to crush it.
But Samurai blocked it with her tentacles.
"Master, please go ahead," Seck said.
Samurai had been so noisy that we were forced to dress her in a maid outfit. Seck curtsied using her skirt, elegantly stepping aside to clear the path for us. Graceful—but I still want to take that outfit off her.
In any case, we'll leave this to them.
Seck's combat ability is quite high. If the opponent really is a degraded clone, there's a strong chance she can win.
Well, the part about being "degraded" could be a lie, of course.
Even so, with Seck, we can at least expect them to take the enemy down with them if necessary.
And so, leaving Samurai and Seck behind, we dashed deeper into the mansion.
