Warhammer: The 11th Primarch - The Black Emperor

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Hunting the Exodites (Part 2)

"Despicable Mon-keigh! Avenge our kin!"

The chieftain of the Exodites let out a beastly roar. Though his forces had scattered, there were still two to three thousand warriors left. They would not back down.

The Mon-keighs must die.

The Exodites howled in fury and charged from all directions toward the warriors of the Shadows Order, whose black armor bore seven red arrow sigils on their right shoulders.

Their dinosaurs leaped high as they charged, a rain of arrows falling upon the 7th Chapter.

Sanchez raised his gun and blew off an Exodites's head with a precise explosive shot.

One Astarte biker took an arrow through his engine and crashed into another bike, forcing him to leap off mid-motion to avoid further damage.

An arrow whizzed through the air and pierced his Mark II expedition-pattern power armor with ease.

As Sanchez sped across the battlefield, he watched his battle brothers fall one by one under xenos fire.

But he didn't lose control. While firing explosive rounds at the Exodites, he stayed calm, searching for the tactical edge.

Then, Sanchez's eyes lit up.

The Exodites' weapons, though powerful, had shorter range. The Shadows Order also had the high ground.

Sanchez, Lord of the 7th Warband, issued a command over the vox comms:

"Mobility! Use your range advantage! Saturate the area with fire!"

The Shadows immediately obeyed. They began circling the Exodites, unleashing coordinated volleys at designated zones.

The Exodites, by contrast, were wild and undisciplined. Raised in primitive conditions, they lacked the structure of the Astartes.

The chieftain watched his warriors fall in droves, their numerical superiority crumbling.

As Tricen's strongest Exodite, he knew what had to be done: kill the enemy leader.

Spurring his dinosaur into a sprint, he launched himself into the air, aiming straight for Sanchez.

At the same moment, Sanchez had the same thought.

Even though he held the advantage, his forces were still taking casualties.

If he cut down the enemy chief, their morale would collapse.

Sanchez vaulted off his bike, crashing it into the enemy ranks, and rushed straight for his prey.

The Exodites chieftain, agile beyond human limits, fired arrows mid-air.

But as a "Hunter," Sanchez had enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, and total bodily control.

He twisted mid-air, dodging the arrows, then fired back with his pistol.

The two warriors clashed in mid-air, dodging and attacking simultaneously.

Though Astartes were slightly slower, Sanchez made up for it with instinct and predictive awareness, often dodging arrows just before they struck.

The Exodites chieftain's eyes narrowed. He drew five arrows at once and fired in a rapid succession.

Sanchez twisted to dodge the first, but his instincts warned him: the second arrow would strike his dodge path.

He swung his blade just in time, striking the arrow in mid-air.

Clang! The arrow clattered to the ground.

Relying on pure instinct, Sanchez let his body move automatically, barely avoiding the next three arrows as they whizzed by.

The chieftain, shocked that his deadliest hunting technique had been countered, now saw his black-armored foe only two meters away.

He threw his bow and drew a longsword.

Though less ornate than those of his Craftworld kin, the sword still shimmered with an elegant, watery gleam in the sunlight. With a fluid motion, the chieftain aimed for Sanchez's legs.

Sanchez's eyes flashed cold. In that moment, his perception transcended the physical; the xenos' strike unfolded in slow motion, its angle and trajectory laid bare.

He responded with the 23rd form of the Ostberg-Vaya. When the Vostroyans were integrated into the Eleventh Legion, they brought this sword doctrine with them. Of all its form and principles, the Shadows of Order favored the 23rd, aimed at exploiting weak points, the Hunter's favorite.

Sanchez's slash was faster, more precise, and even more elegant.

Not because his raw speed beat the Exodites', but because his instincts, inherited from the gene father, allowed him to strike first.

The strongest Exodite on Tricen couldn't even react.

His pupils widened in shock.

The chainsword roared, blood splattered, the Hunt was complete.

While the 7th Chapter lured and slaughtered the Exodites, Tierney was making progress on Daxos Alpha.

By kidnapping guards and serfs and interrogating them via translator, he uncovered critical intel.

A giant beast called the Blue-Horned Unicorn-Rhinoceros attacked settlements every harvest season.

Some rare subspecies had horns that could emit lightning.

The rarest had white horns, whose roars could cause dizziness even from over a hundred meters away.

Tierney wasn't satisfied with hearsay.

He contacted the Techmarines, who, upon learning the mission was assigned by their Gene-Father, offered help.

Gabriel's team, after researching the Jorgall's tech, developed a prototype hunting weapon.

Techmarines assessed that it could stun most giant beasts.

Armed with this gear, Tierney led his squad into the forest.

After five solar days, they found their quarry: a herd of light-blue rhino-like creatures drinking at a river.

They had longer, thicker horns than standard rhinos.

When a few of them looked up, sensing danger, Tierney gave the order:

"Fire!"

The 50 best marksmen, all with visual implants, raised their arc rifles and fired.

Several massive blue beasts, many times the size of an ordinary rhino, ran a few meters before collapsing, paralyzed.

Tierney didn't celebrate. He noticed one beast's horn glowing with intense lightning.

A bolt tore through the forest, striking a cluster of scouts.

One was hit full force, and blood gushed from his nose and mouth as he fell.

Tierney, enraged, also recognized the opportunity.

From intel, he knew these beasts couldn't discharge lightning consecutively.
