What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 570: Luring A Leviathan

When I finished my own food, I went back to check on the Pirate Lord to see that the food I made them was completely eaten clean.

The Pirate Lord was already inside his Power Armour but when I tried to call out to him, he didn't react at all.

I'm guessing he had fallen asleep while inside the Power Armour after eating so I just left him there.

Seems like he really intends to just stay in there the entire time…

Well, he's not part of my crew so I don't really care anyway but for him to talk so much about being on guard and yet I find him sleeping right after that was a bit ironic to me.

Amber turned to me while she was washing the dishes, "Are we really going to let that Pirate Lord stay in the cargo bay?"

I raised an eyebrow, "I guess? It's not like the guy would fit through the door unless he steps out of the Power Armour. And since he seems adamant about staying inside it, I doubt anything else would happen."

Amber sniffed at that but said nothing.

"How long do you think we'll have to spend out here hunting the Leviathan?" I asked.

"Dunno. If you let me go out and hunt for it myself, I could probably find it within a day or two?" Amber answered offhandedly.

"Haha, very funny, Amber. Seriously though?"

She shrugged, "Assuming the Leviathan didn't go anywhere, we might see it immediately when we reach there."

And as though on cue, Ries's voice came from over the ship's speakers.

"Boss! Boss!! I found it! I found it!"

I immediately leapt to my feet and made a dash towards the bridge, the other girls also following close behind.

When I got there, I was expecting to see the Leviathan right in front of us but… The only thing I saw was just empty space.

It does seem like we had gotten out of Travel speeds and we were currently cruising through space at a low speed right now though… Which means Ries definitely found something.

I shifted my gaze to Ries to give her a questioning look and she quickly tapped on her pilot's console to display a screen, showing a certain part of space in front of our ship.

It then slowly zoomed in until I realised there was a shadow of some snake moving across the screen leisurely.

Yep, that's our target alright…

"What do we do now, Boss?" Ries asked, right as the other girls also came into the room to check things out.

Honestly… My plan was to quite literally get its attention by shooting at it and then running back to the Warp Gate to get back to that system.

It would then hopefully warp after us to that system and we would just lead them to the other Leviathan and then start a fight with it.

Now that I say it like that… It really feels like I'm being overly optimistic about this since anything can happen along the way which would screw the entire plan up…

The only thing that we could be assured of is that the Leviathan would definitely be able to warp after us because these creatures could somehow read our warp signatures and thus warp themselves to where we disappeared to without getting lost.

This was already confirmed because there have been cases where people thought they were safe after warping out of a system, only for the Leviathan to warp in behind them and immediately attack them.

I turned to the rest of the girls, "I was just thinking that we would just shoot at it to lure it along behind us… But I'm afraid that it might catch up to us and eat us so… Does anyone have a better idea?"

Lea raised her hand, "Mistress? We are trying to lure it to follow us through the Warp Gate, right?"

"Umm… Yes?"

"In that case, I could fire a few railgun rounds at it to get its attention while we preemptively fly in the direction of the Warp Gate. When the kinetic rounds hit it, we would be at another location to fire again to get its attention."

Ah, I get it.

Because the rail guns use kinetic rounds, there will be a travel time for the kinetic round to reach its target.

So Lea would just shoot at where the Leviathan would be and then we would fly away so by the time the round hits the Leviathan and make it look in that direction, we would not be there anymore.

Then when it goes to investigate, we would shoot again and then just keep luring it until we were at the Warp Gate to reveal ourselves.

Genius, Lea! Let's do that!

Wait…

"Are we even sure that the shots would get its attention? Seeing how big it is, we might not even do damage to it to get it interested in us…"

"We will, Mistress," Lea assured me.

I guess maybe this comes from her own experience so I decided to just trust her word on it.

I got everyone to battlestations and made sure that the Pirate Lord guy was also fully prepared in case we needed to make evasive maneuvers in case of any unforeseen circumstances. The last thing I needed was him crashing into our stuff and breaking them.

Also, he should be contacting his men and prepping them to be ready for the assault as well.

Lea took aim with the guns and I watched her target the empty space in front of the Leviathan as it slithered through the blackness of space slowly.

She then pulled the trigger and all of our railguns shot out their rounds, the kinetic shells piercing through the vacuum of space towards the Leviathan.

Ries immediately activated our Travel Drives and our ship sped towards the direction of the Warp Gate.

I kept the screen showing the Leviathan up at the corner so that we could watch the impact.

A total of six seconds passed before the Leviathan suddenly jerked its body like it was struck by something.

Obviously there was no explosion since the shells were not explosives but that reaction from the creature was enough to know that Lea had hit the target perfectly.

Looks like Lea was right because the snake Leviathan immediately swivelled around to look in the direction of where the kinetic shells came from.

I thought it would start slithering towards that direction until light glowed along its body before lighting up in a blinding flash, hiding the figure of the Leviathan.

Another burst of light appeared a good distance away and both light flashes faded almost at the same time, revealing the snake Leviathan had basically warped forward instantaneously.

I couldn't help but hold my breath as the giant creature swivelled its head around as though to look for the culprit.

The good thing was that it couldn't tell where exactly the shot was fired from so it was still quite a distance away from the actual firing position and we shouldn't be spotted yet.

The Leviathan looked quite frustrated and started circling around the area, right as we dropped out of Travel Speeds so that Lea could take aim once more.

She took her time to line up her shots before she pulled the trigger again, sending another salvo of kinetic shells flying towards the Leviathan.

Once more, Ries activated our Travel Drives and we sped towards the Warp Gate, trying to get as far as possible from where we had shot the Leviathan from lest it spots us.

We were also intentionally not flying in a straight line either but zigzagging our way there so even if it looked straight at the direction of where the kinetic shells came from, we wouldn't be in the same direction.

The shells took a shorter time to reach the Leviathan and I could see the snake creature jerk its body before spinning around to look in a specific direction.

Even though I couldn't read its mind, I could tell that it was definitely pissed that it was being attacked by something it couldn't see.

Checking the map, it looks like we just need two more shots before we would get in range of the Warp Gate and we can fly off.

It blinked forward again, only to find nothing once more as we took aim to fire the third shot.

The snake was opening its mouth like it was letting out a roar as it failed to find us a second time, only to be hit again from another direction once more.

Ok, we just need to get to the Warp Gate and then hit it with one of the laser weapons to give away our position so that it will spot u--

Wait… Looking at the screen… Isn't it looking directly at us right now?

"It spotted us, Mistress!" Lea cried out.

I immediately turned to our pilot, "Ries?!"

"We're getting there!! Dropping out of Travel speed… Charging up the Warp Drives…

All of a sudden, the snake suddenly disappeared from the screen and reappeared right in front of our ship, its mouth wide open and prepared to snap down on us.

"Ries!!!"

"Warping!!"

Our ship got slingshotted out into space right before the mouth snapped shut.

Holy shit…
