What? I am a Wisp!

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Fishing

Andy was starting to feel like he had at least gotten the hang of his explosion of confetti magic, he had managed to absorb enough mana to keep his glow steady and avoid obliterating any more innocent flowers. But he had no idea what he was supposed to be doing, with this much mana he had. But what now? Should we learn some cool tricks?

The forest around him felt endless, full of bizarre plants and strange sounds that came from time to time. It was both beautiful and disorienting. But before Andy could think too much about it, a voice suddenly broke through the silence. "well, well, well. After a few more attempts look who finally figured out how not to blow things up."

The voice was a little sarcastic, and Andy turned around through, being in a wisp body, he didn't exactly have the best control over his movements yet. So instead of just turning back he ended up colliding with the tree, again but managed to get back into the air, before he could make a fool of himself.

And there she was again the forest spirit, lira. She was perched on a low-hanging beach of a nearby tree, on a leg dangling casually while the other was tucked beneath her, she had that same grin on her face. Like she was waiting for this moment all along.

"Can you not suddenly come at me from the back?" said Andy, trying to justify it

"Ok, we will see about it next time," Lira replied, rolling her eyes. "you were too busy playing with the little mana you have. How's the not blowing up everything things working out for you, huh?" she asked as she looked at the few new pits around him.

Andy looks around "Well, it is still in work in progress. But yeah, I guess I am getting better after a few more tries."

Lira gives him a once-over look, still unimpressed. "better? You mean by not destroying the forest for the 8th time in last few minutes?"

Andy's glow dimmed slightly, and his pride got hurt "Okay, fine, I admit that I still haven't exactly mastered this mana or magic thing, but who thought this wisp body would give this much trouble to me? And this whole absorbing mana thing? Still feels pretty much random."

"Exactly," Lira said, clearly enjoying his discomfort. "that's the fun and difficult part of being a wisp. You have got all this power, but not having a clue how to properly use it. But don't worry, you will figure it out eventually, only if you don't blow yourself up first."

Andy looked at her annoyingly "That's very encouraging."

"I am to please," Lira said slightly bowing down. "But don't worry, I am not going to leave you trying to blow yourself out. You may not have much control right now, but I can say confidentially that you have potential. There are a lot of things to learn other than just floating around and exploding flowers."

Andy blinked, a little confused. "wait, you are going to help me?"

Lira shrugged, her eyes sparkling as if she was looking at her favorite toy. " I might. You have to promise thought, I am not doing this out of goodness or generosity of my heart. I just find you entertaining. And it is pretty rare to find someone to train."

"gee, thanks," Andy muttered. "you are generous."

Lira tilted her head, still smiling. "before, I can help you, but you have to remember one thing. If you want someone to spoon-feed you everything, go find someone else. Me? I am not like that. So don't expect me to be nice."

Andy just floated there, unsure if he was supposed to be offended or flattered by her bluntness. But it was something new to him.

"Alright, now," Lira continued, " I am not going to just sit and watch as you stumble around. If you want to do something with all this power? Learn how to properly control it.

Andy hesitates. He had to admit, that the idea of actually learning how to use magic without destroying everything feels pretty appealing. I mean… I guess, I don't want to blow stuff anymore."

Lira hopped down the tree landing slowly on the ground with a little wind around her feet. "good then you to start from small things. Let's go one step at a time. A baby wisp needs baby steps."

Andy looks at her uncertain. "what do you mean by that?"

Lira made a dismissive gesture as if the answer was obvious. "well, for starters, you need to focus. You see magic doesn't just happen because you want it to happen. It's like fishing you wait for it can't just grab the first thing you see. You need patience, precision, and a little bit of finesse. Which are a little difficult for a wisp."

"Fishing?" Andy asked. "how does that even apply?"

" I am a forest spirit, not a fishing expert. But magic also works the same, alright? You can't always just expect to pull out fish on your very first try. You need to have patience and not rush it."

Andy tried to wrap his mind around that, it sounded pretty simple enough, but he still felt he couldn't understand. It was hard to fixture himself reeling in anything . 'but I can't just give up without giving it a shot.' He thought to himself, though not entirely convinced.

"Good," Lira said, seeing him giving it a try. "now, focus on the mana in the air. It's all around you. You just need to pull it towards you, little by little. Towards a single Point in your body.

Andy tried again, his glow pulsing and light concentrating at the center of his body. This time, instead of just absorbing whatever came his way or what he found, he focused on pulling the mana which is near him gently, like Lira had suggested.

A few moments passed by, and the felt a surge of mana building within him. It wasn't as unstable as before, but it was lost more than before when he gathered by the flowers, who knows what would happen if he were to explode now?

"Well, well. Look at you," Lira said she was impressed. "that was almost controlled."

"I am trying," Andy muttered a little, though there was a little pride in his voice. "it's a little weird, but I am starting to get the hang of it."

Lira smiled slightly. "don't get cocky. Just because you were able to gather mana at a point, you still have a long way to go. But for now, that will do."

Andy's glow flickers, and as his confidence grows more he starts to Hover here and there in the air. And suddenly started to think what to do next.

And that is when Lira decided to hit his confidence. "you know," she said, suddenly sounding a bit more serious, "this forest isn't the only place there in the world, the world is big. And there are many other creatures, other powers, out there. Which are many times more powerful than you and all of them are not always so friendly."

Andy paused, confused. "what do you mean?"

"let's just say," Lira with a little grin, "you just need to learn more things if you want to survive out the world. But that lesson for later."

Andy just floated in a place, not sure whether he should be terrified or excited. One thing is for sure his life as a wisp in this world is not going to be boring.

"you wait for a few moments I will come back" and with that, lira disappeared into the trees, leaving Andy alone with a growing sense of uncertainty and a spark of adventure.
