Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Speech
Andy was hoping that the goblins' absurd worship would die down after a day or so, but it only seemed to escalate. Everywhere he went, goblins followed, offering him more and more offerings like rocks, fungi, shiny pebbles, and once a very confused frog.
And now, they were throwing a ceremony in his name.
"What's is this?" Andy muttered, floating in mid-air, he surveyed the makeshift arena the goblins had constructed in his honor. But it looks like a battlefield with a lot of rocks and wooden swords, except with more piles of unripe fruit and a lot less fighting.
A goblin, who was in charge of organizing this fiasco, stood at the front of the large stick with mud cloth tied at the top of the stick. And they also glued shiny rocks to the tree branches to make it beautiful.
"great spirit! Oh! Great wisp god!" the goblin shouted, His voice echoed through the place clearly. "we all gather to honor your brilliance, your magnificence, your shining glow that has lightened up our lives!"
Andy, who had been floating lazily above the crowd, suddenly froze at his speech. 'I am not a god! I am a wisp' that's what he wants to say but. The goblins seem not in a situation to listen to anything. They are all shouting "Wisp! Wisp! Wisp!" In a continuous loop
Lira appears beside him sitting on a tree branch with her arms crossed, clearly enjoying the scene. "oh, you seem to be so into this," she said with a smile. "this is just the beginning, you know."
"no, I am not into this, absolutely not!" Andy said, gesturing at the goblin below . "beginning of what? This is madness."
"Sure it is," Lira said with a smile. "you just don't know it yet. Welcome to godhood, my friend. You might not be god technically, but who needs that? The goblins think you are ."
"And why is that my problem?" Andy sighed, but despite not liking this situation, he couldn't stop himself from feeling a little amused by this situation, these goblins even though little silly, take this very seriously.
One of the goblins who was wearing a crown made of mushrooms, for some reason, stepped forward and knelt. "oh! Mighty wisp, please grant us your immense wisdom," it said, holding up a bowl of what appears to be mashed berries "We offer this humble tribute as a token of our loyalty."
Andy stares at the bowl. "mashed berries?" he asked, puzzled. "what am I supposed to do with mashed berries?"
The goblin looks at him. "oh! Great one, surely you must know what to do with our offerings! It was all your great will!"
Andy blinks, thinks for a few seconds and says. "uh, I guess…thanks?"
The goblins are satisfied seeing Andy take their offering, they return to the crowd, which suddenly erupts into more chants. Andy glanced at Lira, who was having a good time watching this.
"you are enjoying this, huh?" Andy said, a little bitterly.
"Oh, absolutely," Lira said, coming closer to Andy. "I have been watching these goblins for ages you know, and you? You are their new shiny thing. They think you are a god! Soon their leader. Don't you like how things are going?"
Andy sighed, "I am not a leader. I don't even know about this forest much, and I am just a wisp. How I am supposed to lead them, if I lead them it will be doom."
"Well," Lira said, her expression turning more thoughtful, "maybe that's the point, you don't need to know much about the forest. They think you know everything. That's all they care about."
As if in a cue, the goblins with the mushroom crown stood in front of him again, holding a tiny goblet that looked suspiciously like a poisonous liquid.
"we offer you this ceremonial drink, oh, mighty one!" the goblin said.
Andy stares at it, eyebrows raised "What's that?"
Lira chuckles. "oh, that? It's probably some sort of goblin potion. Don't drink it unless you really want to find out what it does."
Andy looked at the goblet suspiciously "Yeah, no thanks."
But the goblin waited expectantly for a response, but Andy wasn't sure how to handle this. He wasn't a god. He didn't know what to do with this offering, especially when this looked like some sort of poison drink.
Andy took it, and then the goblins around began to cheer wildly, their chants growing louder. "WISP!WISP!WISP!" they took Andy's confused silence as some sort of approval.
"OH, no," Andy groaned, realizing it was too late he was stuck in this ridiculous role.
"hey, don't worry," Lira said, leaning over to whisper in his ear, "You might not be a god, but it doesn't mean you can't enjoy this ride. Just give them a little speech you are their god after all "
Andy blinks. "a speech? What speech should I give? I don't know."
Lira thought. "no. Just make something up. That is what they want. It doesn't have to make sense. It will be great if it doesn't make any sense."
And so, in front of a group of goblins, who are looking at him expectantly. Andy much to his disbelief, floated to the center of the crowd.
The goblins parted, creating a wide circle with him as the center. They all stared up at him in awe, waiting for him to speak.
Andy swallowed, flickering nervously.
"what should I say?" he thinks looking towards Lira.
Lira, looks at him, cheers says, "Just remember you are a god, just say something complex ok?"
Andy took a deep breath, clearing his throat and, for the first time in his life he spoke in front of this many people or goblins, so he was nervous.
"The….uh, great wisp….will…grant you….some wisdom," Andy started, his voice shaking. He had no idea what he was saying, but at least he could try. "in the future…always bring…better food offering. Mashed berries are…questionable.
The goblins nodded in agreement as if this was the most profound thing they had ever heard. "also," Andy continued, growing more confident now, seeing that goblins were listening to him, "there will be no more random parties. No more buildings or shrines unless they are…properly constructed.
Lira watching from the sidelines, nods as Andy is doing good.
The goblins cheered.
And…um.." Andy doesn't have anymore words. "you are doing a great job, guys. Keep doing your things. You are the best."
The goblins all erupted in applause, chanting his name louder and louder. Andy had to resist the urge to hide himself in the bush. He was relieved that goblins had believed his words.
"That's was…well, that's was something," Lira said, floating up next to him once the ceremony had finally calmed down.
" yeah. It was something." Andy said, flickering a little embarrassed "Is speech good?"
Lira smiled. "you didn't mess it up. But it looks like you got yourself a nice little cult. Wisp."
And as the goblins danced around, chanting Andy's name, he had to admit this was one of the weirdest things that had ever happened to him.And he knew this wasn't ending anytime soon.
