Chapter 164: Nether House
Li Xiu saw the bottle the woman mentioned, a black bottle with a label on it, the label had a white background with black drawings, depicting a black skull.
As for the words, Li Xiu recognized none, but seeing the black skull emblem, he knew this was likely no good thing.
"What if I don't drink it?" Li Xiu asked.
"You don't have to drink it, of course, but then you'll have to stay here as the bartender until someone else is willing to replace you," the woman said leisurely.
Li Xiu knew he couldn't possibly stay as a bartender. Who knew when someone else might come to this place—perhaps ten or eight years later. He couldn't wait that long, could he?
He summoned his strongest current force, the Jedi Knight, and directed a Blood Light Slash at the door.
The crimson Crescent Blade Light struck the door, but with a clang, the blade shattered, leaving not even a scratch on the door.
He summoned several other companion creatures and tried all methods, but still couldn't get the door open.
The woman let Li Xiu do as he pleased, neither coming down from the second floor nor making any attempt to stop him.
Li Xiu highly suspected that the woman might be trapped on the second floor, unable to come down.
But even if the woman couldn't come down, he couldn't get out either, and sooner or later he would be trapped here to death.
Li Xiu gave up on trying to open the door, approached the wine cabinet, and took down the bottle the woman had mentioned.
"What's the name of this wine?" Li Xiu asked.
"Black Death God," the woman replied calmly.
"Black Death God—judging by the name, drinking this will likely have Death ready to claim my life," Li Xiu said.
"You barged in and drank my Blood Rose. Isn't it reasonable to expect some payment?" the woman said.
"You have a point; it's indeed my fault," Li Xiu nodded.
"You seem to be a reasonable person, so why not just drink it?" the woman remarked with a smile.
Li Xiu, however, placed the bottle back on the shelf and picked up another bottle, saying, "If I were to break all these bottles, wouldn't that be a pity?"
The woman laughed, her laughter slightly hoarse, yet with an indescribable allure, "Are you trying to threaten me with those bottles? If you could smash them all, I'd actually thank you."
Bang!
Li Xiu smashed the bottle against the opposite wall. The bottle shattered, and the liquid sprayed out.
But in the next second, the shattered bottle and the wine magically coalesced and returned to their original state on the shelf.
Li Xiu was somewhat surprised and tried throwing several more bottles, but each time, they would instantaneously return to their original positions on the shelf.
"This stone house is truly eerie!" Li Xiu said helplessly, halting his attempts.
"Why did you stop?" the woman asked mockingly.
"Can we negotiate? Besides drinking, is there another way I can express my apologies for intruding into your home?" Li Xiu asked.
"There's no need for apologies, and this isn't my home," the woman said.
"Not your home?" Li Xiu was stunned.
"Don't be too happy yet. Since this isn't my home, I don't have the authority to let you leave. Once you enter here, you must drink a bottle of wine to leave; it's the same for everyone," the woman said flatly.
"So, I have no choice but to drink this bottle?" Li Xiu sighed.
"You could choose not to drink, stay here as the bartender, and keep me company—that would be wonderfully fine too," the woman said with a smile.
"Then I'll go with the drink. Can I choose a bottle other than Black Death God?" Li Xiu remembered the demon spirit earlier had picked a bottle.
"Sure," the woman replied readily.
Li Xiu surveyed the wines on the rack, which covered the entire wall with six shelves. Each shelf held hundreds of bottles, totaling over a thousand.
These thousand bottles seemed to all be unique; the words on them were unrecognizable to Li Xiu, so he couldn't discern which one might safely be drunk.
Li Xiu recalled the demon spirit picking the Blood Rose from the fourth shelf. His gaze shifted there, but next to where the Blood Rose had been, the labels on those bottles appeared completely different.
Theoretically, picking a bottle near the Blood Rose might reduce the risks somewhat.
However, Li Xiu didn't select one immediately. He pondered and decided to start from the first bottle on the first shelf, examining each one carefully.
He wanted to see if he could find any pattern, so he wouldn't need to rely solely on luck.
Though he couldn't understand the characters, it wasn't entirely impossible for him to identify them.
As he examined them, he noted down the symbols and icons on each label to compare and filter based on repeated ones.
The woman had told him the previous bottle was Black Death God, and the words corresponding with the black skull likely meant Black Death God.
Nevertheless, this script was very bizarre. The four characters of Black Death God only used two symbols.
One symbol directly represented black, and the other represented Death God.
