Chapter 1: (White Shadow Under the Moonlight: Awakening of the Mechanical Heart)
A Mechanical Heart, a Cursed Bloodline, and the Secrets of the Millennium.
"White Shadow Under the Moonlight: Awakening of the Mechanical Heart"
The moonlight was like blood, spilling over the abandoned church in the suburbs of New York City. Liam Blackwood huddled in the shadows in the corner of the church, feeling the restless power within him. There were still three days until the full moon, but his fingernails had already begun to glow a strange silver, and his fingertips occasionally sent sharp pains through his body.
"Damn, it's started again," he gritted his teeth, reached into his pocket and felt the cold metal of his mechanical heart. It was the only thing he had left after his rebirth, and the source of his power. Whenever the full moon approached, the mechanical heart would emit a faint hum, as if to remind him of the terrible curse.
[New Scene 1: Abandoned Church, Midnight] The moonlight stains the church's stained glass windows like blood, and Liam's shadow twists into the outline of a wolf on the ground. He clutches the mechanical heart in his pocket, and the pain of the metal rubbing against his skin reminds him of the flames in the lab that day - it was the same moonlight when the masked werewolves took the remains of his father.
"Cough... cough!"
Eli Thorne curled up in the corner of the confessional, the rotting wooden floorboards creaking beneath him. Liam stared into the other's golden pupils as his mechanical heart suddenly beeped - a precursor to the awakening of the werewolf lineage.
"Save... save my grandmother..." Eli tore open the collar of his shirt, revealing a half-wolf birthmark beneath his collarbone. Liam's pupils suddenly constricted as the pattern was exactly the same as the "mark of the curse" recorded in the wolf clan genealogy of his past life.
The sound of footsteps was heard outside the church and Liam looked up, alarmed. Eli stumbled in, his clothes tattered and his face sickly pale.
"Please, save my grandmother!" Eli knelt, his voice shaking.
Liam frowned. His superpower allowed him to hear Eli's fear and desperation. As his powers grew, he noticed that his mental energy was also depleting, and that every time he used his powers, he would lose some of his past memories. But right now he didn't care.
"Lead the way," he said curtly.
On the way to Eli's house, Liam noticed that Eli's pupils glowed an unnatural gold in the moonlight. It reminded him of his past research on the genetic inheritance of the werewolf lineage - golden pupils were one of the most distinctive features of werewolf offspring.
[New Scene 2: Manhattan Slums, Midnight] The blue light of the ambulance cuts through the rain, and the old woman's withered wrists are wrapped in Liam's mechanical bandages. Eli kneels in the puddles, bloody coins strewn across the drainpipe - all the belongings he stole.
"They said you were the 'white shadow in the moonlight'..." Eli looked up suddenly, rainwater dripping from his eyelashes onto Liam's collar. "But I checked the news, and ten years ago, the scientist killed by a werewolf was also named Liam Blackwood."
Liam took half a step back, his mechanical heart vibrating in his chest in a rhythm like Morse code. Suspicion spread like a virus in Eli's eyes and he suddenly tore open his collar - the wolf-shaped birthmark on his collarbone faded to reveal the scarlet vampire brand beneath.
Eli's home was a run-down apartment, the air filled with the smell of mold and herbs. An old woman lay on the bed, her breathing weak and her face flushed with an unnatural color.
"Please, save her. They say you are the 'white shadow under the moon' and can heal anything," Eli said urgently.
Liam did not answer. He closed his eyes and concentrated, the hum of his mechanical heart echoing in his ears. When he opened his eyes, he could clearly see the black toxins flowing through the old woman's body - the work of a vampire.
"Your grandmother was attacked by a vampire," Liam said. What are they looking for these days?"
Eli hesitated. They are looking for something that can stop the curse of the werewolves," Liam's heart leapt, for this coincided with the secret he knew from his previous life. He took out his mechanical heart and placed it on the old woman's chest. With a faint blue light, the old woman's breathing gradually stabilized.
"Thank you!" Eli said excitedly, "I know a place where people talk about werewolves and vampires."
"Where?"
"The underground boxing ring."
[New Scene 3: Midnight at the Underground Boxing Ring The Underground Boxing Ring is buzzing with activity late at night, and the air is filled with the smell of sweat and blood. Liam stands in the corner with his hood up, watching the ring. His gaze is drawn to a woman in black leather sitting in the VIP area, elegantly sipping red wine, but Liam can see the red glow in her eyes - a vampire.
In the sea of glow sticks, Aiden Cross removed his diamond cufflinks with the grace of a bomb disposal expert. Liam clenched his mechanical heart as he felt the vampire leader awaken hundreds of feet away.
"Do you know why we chose this place?" Aidan blew away the red wine stain on his cufflinks. Thirty years ago, the Dracula family crucified the Wolf King here."
Suddenly Aiden appears in the middle of the crowd with a meaningful smile at the corner of his mouth, "Long time no see, Liam. Or should I say 'White Shadow in the Moonlight'?"
Liam takes a careful step back, "You know who I am?"
"Of course I do," Aiden said in a low voice, "because I've been reborn too."
Liam's mind raced as he felt the mechanical heart vibrate at an increasing rate. Aiden continued, "The conflict between werewolves and vampires is about to erupt and we need you.
Just then, the door to the underground boxing ring slammed open. A group of men in black rushed in, the leader removing his sunglasses to reveal bloodshot eyes.
"Hand over the mechanical heart," the vampire leader, Vlad Drakon, said coldly, "or everyone here will die."
Liam felt the mechanical heart's hum suddenly become harsh, and some vague images flashed through his mind - fragments of memories from a previous life. He saw himself standing in the moonlight, holding the mechanical heart, facing a group of werewolves and vampires.
"It seems the game has just begun," Liam murmured, gripping the mechanical heart. He could feel a new story unfolding, and this time he would reveal the secret that had been hidden for a thousand years.
The lights in the arena suddenly went out, leaving only a few rays of moonlight streaming in through the skylight. Liam could hear the screams of the crowd around him and the chaotic sound of footsteps, but his attention was completely focused on Vlad.
The mechanical heart glowed faintly blue in the darkness and Liam could feel it vibrating with some unknown power. A sudden image flashed through his mind: an ancient castle, bathed in moonlight, with a group of werewolves and vampires facing each other.
"What are you looking for?" Liam asked, watching his surroundings carefully for a chance to escape.
Vlad gave a sinister smile, "We're looking for the key that can break the curse, and the mechanical heart in your hand is the last piece of the puzzle."
Just then, Liam noticed Aiden sneaking up on Vlad with a silver dagger in his hand. Liam immediately understood his intentions - Aiden was a double agent who had been waiting for this opportunity.
"Look out!" Liam shouted, lunging at Vlad.
But it was too late, Aiden's dagger had already pierced Vlad's back. Vlad just sneered and backhanded Aiden away.
"Stupid werewolf," Vlad said, "you think silver can kill me?"
Liam seized the opportunity and aimed the mechanical heart at Vlad. A strong blue light shot out, and Vlad let out a scream as his body began to disintegrate.
"This is impossible!" Vlad yelled, "How did you know the true power of the mechanical heart?"
Liam did not answer as more fragments of memory flashed through his mind. He saw his former self researching the secrets of the mechanical heart. It turned out that the mechanical heart could not only read the human heart, but also release powerful energy, and was a weapon specifically designed to deal with vampires and werewolves.
With Vlad's disappearance, the underground boxing ring fell into chaos. Liam quickly found Aiden and helped him to his feet.
"Are you okay?" Liam asked.
Aiden shook his head with a bitter smile, "It seems I was still too naive. Liam, you have to be careful, vampires and werewolves are looking for you. They want the mechanical heart because it is the only thing that can break the curse."
"What curse? Liam asked.
Aiden was about to answer when his body suddenly began to shake violently. Liam watched in horror as Aiden's eyes turned gold and his fingernails began to grow.
"The full moon is coming," Aiden said with difficulty. "Go, Liam. I can't control myself."
Liam hesitated, but finally turned and left. He knew he had to find answers as soon as possible, or the whole city would descend into chaos.
[New Scene 4: Brooklyn Bridge, Dawn] Stepping out of the underground boxing ring, Liam looks up at the sky. The moon is almost full, and he can feel the power growing inside him. The hum of his mechanical heart grows louder, as if guiding him in the right direction.
Just then, a familiar voice echoes behind him.
"Liam, wait for me."
Liam turns to see the vampire woman in black leather coming towards him. The red light in her eyes is gone, replaced by a complex emotion.
"I know what you're looking for," she said, "and I can help you, but you have to trust me."
Liam looked at her warily, "Why should I trust a vampire?"
The woman smiled bitterly, "Because I'm also looking for a way to break the curse. My family has suffered under this curse for far too long."
Liam was silent for a moment and finally nodded. He knew he needed allies and this woman could be the key.
Elena Dracula's red leather coat flapped in the wind, and the chain wrapped around her fingertips held the unconscious Aiden. "Do you really think vampires are afraid of silver?" She laughed lightly and threw out three gold-plated bullets. "The real curse was that wedding a thousand years ago."
Liam's mechanical heart suddenly burst into a blinding red light and the bridge collapsed beneath his feet. Elena's golden eyes reflected the hologram of the mechanical core-a silhouette of an intertwined wolf and bat, with the Latin inscription Amor vincit omnia (Love conquers all) engraved below.
The two walk side by side in the moonlight as the hum of the mechanical heart begins to fade. Liam can feel that a new journey is about to begin, and this time he must uncover the secret hidden for a thousand years in order to save everyone.
"What's your name?" Liam asks.
"Elena," the woman answers, "Elena Dracula."
Liam's heart skips a beat. Dracula, a family name that represents the oldest bloodline of vampires. He realizes that he may be involved in a conspiracy that is more complex than he had imagined.
"So, Elena," Liam said, "tell me, what exactly is this curse?"
Elena took a deep breath. "It's a tale of love, betrayal and revenge. A long time ago, a werewolf and a vampire fell in love, but their love was hindered by a curse. This curse affected not only them, but also the entire supernatural world.
Liam frowned. "What about the mechanical heart? What role does it play in the story?"
"The mechanical heart is the key to breaking the curse," Elena said. "It was created by the werewolf and the vampire together and contains their purest power. Only by finding all the pieces can the curse be lifted."
Liam took the mechanical heart in his hands. He could feel it heating up slightly, as if in response to Elena's words.
"So where do we start?" Liam asked.
Elena pointed to an ancient castle in the distance, "There is where the story began and where we will find the answers.
The two made their way to the castle, their shadows stretching long in the moonlight. Liam could feel that a great mystery awaited him, and this time he had to uncover the truth to save everyone.
As they approached the castle, the hum of the mechanical heart sounded again, and this time it seemed to resonate with some unknown force. Liam knew that his journey had only just begun, and that an adventure full of danger and surprises awaited him.
