Who hid My Corpse!

Chapter 11: Why Don't I Just Kill Them All?

Fenris's words caused Rocky's breath to slow by half a beat.

A Wanted Notice personally issued by the Lord of Eternal Nightmare... As far as Rocky knows, in this world, the only one who can be hunted by a god is Visas. So, has that guy's research already reached such a significant stage? Is a second Visas about to emerge?

"Hehe, it seems you understand the seriousness of this matter." Fenris said with some irony, observing Rocky's expression, "It's really not easy, huh."

This naturally made Rocky's anger rise in a flash: "At this time, you still have the mood to joke? Dammit, what exactly is going on with that guy? Is the Lord of Eternal Nightmare going to act personally?"

"Calm down, Bishop Rocky." Fenris said calmly, "The situation is indeed severe, but not to the extent you imagine."

"Didn't you just say the Lord of Eternal Nightmare personally issued a Wanted Notice! Now you're saying it's not to that extent?!"

"Yes, these two things are not contradictory. Because my Lord's pursuit of this person is not so much an oracle as it is a pre-set insurance."

"An insurance?"

"Yes, the insurance contents are naturally that Taboo Knowledge." Fenris spread his palm, a black flame flickering in his hand, "Just like this flame, when someone walks on the street holding this flame, my Lord will issue a warning to make them realize such behavior is very dangerous; this is the first line of insurance, also known as the Divine Oath Mark."

Fenris paused for a moment, then the flame in his hand flared into a mass of fire, a fierce and perilous aura contained within the black flame.

"And when he walks with this fire in front of a house piled with dry wood, just a casual throw would ignite the house, my Lord will issue a warning to stop him, and at the same time notify nearby residents to prevent him; this is the second line of insurance. Only when he really ignites the house will my Lord take action personally, and at that point it would be a proclamation."

Rocky understood: "You're now at this stage?"

"Yes." Fenris withdrew the flame, "However, this analogy is not entirely accurate because my Lord is not always watching the mortal world, a fact you should be well aware of. So this second warning is actually a pre-set automated detection by my Lord; when someone reaches a certain threshold with this Taboo Knowledge, it triggers immediately, which is what I previously mentioned as the Wanted Notice."

Fenris's explanation allowed Rocky to breathe a slight sigh of relief, thinking that at least it hasn't reached the point of the house being ignited yet. However, if truly as Fenris said, that guy is walking with a torch in front of a house filled with dry wood, it is indeed unsettling.

"So what's the situation of that person?" Rocky asked, "And where are they now?"

"His name is Edwin, the most outstanding Dream Scholar in my Church." Fenris said, "In the area of dreams, few can surpass him, otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to carve out a Dream Space beyond my Lord's surveillance for research, until he was discovered a week ago. But by then, he was already prepared to flee. We missed him during the siege, and where he has gone, we do not know."

"Don't you have any information at all? You don't even know where he ran off to, how do you catch him?"

"Don't say it like that, Lord Rocky." Fenris chuckled, "The information about 'Ulu' provided by your Church isn't exactly comprehensive either, is it?"

Rocky's mouth twitched involuntarily, while Fenris continued, "So we also hope for Contract Land's help. After all, for Contract Land, hunting one or two people makes no difference. But since this trouble was caused by my Church, we are not sure if Contract Land will agree, hence coming to inform your Church first."

"Ha, so you know it's trouble caused by you."

Rocky wanted to let Fenris solve his own problems but had to admit that this trouble was significant—Contract Land would probably not refuse assistance, so he did not say much more, leaving with a "Got it," intending to exit from these people who made him very uncomfortable.

But as he reached the door, Fenris's voice rang out again, "We will deliver the specific information to your Church in written form, so please pay close attention. Oh, there is one more point you must be careful of, do not get contaminated by him."

Rocky stopped, turned back to look at Fenris: "What contamination?"

"Naturally, that of the Taboo Knowledge." Fenris replied with a smile, "If he tries to tell you that knowledge, make sure to cover your ears and refuse to listen. Because once you know that information..."

"What?" Rocky said coldly, "Will your Lord kill me?"

"No, not our Lord." Fenris chuckled lightly, "Your Lord."

Rocky's pupils contracted instantly.

"Good afternoon, Bishop Rocky." Fenris slowly closed his eyes, "We too should return to the Dream."

Rocky stood on the spot for a long time, as if trying to ask something more, but could not speak; only after all the followers of the Eternal Nightmare had sunk into sleep, did he leave with a volatile expression.

...

Hewinia watched as Lyra's group gradually disappeared at the horizon, only then did she retract her gaze and fall into contemplation.
