Chapter 15: Lifespan Halved
The Contract Land hasn't officially appeared in the game, so Bai Wei had never seen a person from the Contract Land. But when its envoy appeared, Bai Wei recognized it immediately.
The reason was simple: Bai Wei sensed an extremely familiar aura from the envoy, which was the power of the Corpse Blocks. Of course, this didn't mean the envoy had Visas's Corpse Blocks; it just meant he was in a state influenced by their rules.
And this rule was naturally the "Contract" from the Nameless Finger.
In "Desecration," the Contract Land never officially appeared, but perhaps to drum up interest for a DLC, the developers released some of its setting. Among the key points was that the Contract Land was established with a rule from a certain Corpse Piece of Visas, and this piece was the Nameless Finger, and the rule was the "Contract."
But what exactly this rule entailed was never explained by the developers, which left even Bai Wei, who had become Visas himself, clueless about the purpose of each of his Corpse Blocks, as if shrouded in mystery.
Nevertheless, since it was called a "Contract," they could guess the gist of it. All that needed to be done was to confirm it, so Bai Wei approached with Lair's body, intercepting the envoy before he entered Isaiah's field of vision.
"Follow me," Bai Wei said lightly.
The envoy didn't notice anything, but his gaze suddenly became unfocused. Then he naturally turned around, silently following Bai Wei out of the Nameless Town.
When the envoy snapped awake as if from a great dream, he found himself in a completely unfamiliar alley, facing a young black merchant who was smiling at him strangely.
"Hello, envoy from the Contract Land," Bai Wei said leisurely.
The envoy was momentarily stunned but quickly realized he was under attack and immediately raised his hand, attempting to strike Bai Wei.
But Bai Wei stood leisurely where he was, not moving at all, as several magic chains suddenly rose and bound the envoy tightly from behind.
"Cough, cough, cough..." The envoy realized that the opponent's strength was not in his league, so he quickly played dumb. "Who are you?! Why are you attacking me? Damn it, are you trying to double-cross? Fine, if so, all my stuff is..."
The envoy couldn't finish his sentence because Bai Wei tightened the magic chains, nearly breaking his neck.
"You should know very well that talking nonsense is pointless," Bai Wei smiled and said, "Tell me, what is the Contract Land planning? Where is your gathering? Just nod if you're willing to tell me, and I'll let you go. If not, I won't insist. Early death, early reincarnation."
The envoy stared fiercely at Bai Wei, not understanding how his identity was exposed.
Could it be those black merchants? Impossible, they, too, were bound by the contract.
The magic chains continued to tighten slowly, as Bai Wei watched him silently, seeing in the envoy's eyes a longing for life, realizing that he wasn't someone of great integrity.
Yet the envoy never lowered his head, enduring the pain and struggle as if some force was restraining him, preventing any act of "betraying" the Contract Land, not even a slight nod.
Is this the power of the "Contract"?
But it should be more than just this.
Then Bai Wei cleared his throat, and a voice, utterly different than before, like an ancient spell, slowly emerged from his mouth.
"Tell me."
Rule "Domination."
Come on, Bai Wei gazed at the envoy.
Let me see if under "Domination," you can still uphold the "Contract."
Upon hearing these words, the envoy's expression immediately twisted, as if two opposing forces were fiercely clashing within his body, like boiling water.
But soon, Bai Wei felt the water changing.
He realized something and immediately stepped forward, repeating the command in a deep tone.
"Tell me!"
...
"Master, the Prison Director is already waiting for you."
In the Contract Land, a servant bowed respectfully to Diana, so low it seemed like he would kiss the ground.
"Yes, I know," Diana uttered softly while gently caressing her Nameless Finger, nodding slightly.
If she remembered correctly, this was the fifth time the Prison Director summoned her this month.
Before this month, she had only met the Prison Director four times in total.
For a millennium, the Contract Land was like a stagnant pool, the seal untouched, and nothing could stir. Until this month, changes began to unfold, even the ancient Prison Director became active.
But this wasn't necessarily a bad thing, at least for Diana.
As Diana adjusted her appearance, preparing to follow the servant to meet the Prison Director, her Nameless Finger suddenly twitched.
Her pupils slightly contracted, then she calmly stopped, indicating to the servant to wait a moment.
Then she closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, she was staring into the eyes of an unfamiliar man in an alley.
The man spoke slowly, with a power she wasn't unfamiliar with woven into his words.
"Tell me!"
Diana's eyes widened as she realized her body was slowly losing control, and under the supreme command, her throat, bound painfully by chains, was struggling to move, like a worm attempting to break out of its cocoon regardless of everything.
