Chapter 259: Chapter 259: I Want to Take You to Hell to Surrender Together

This ongoing deadlock wasn't helping. He Kui scanned the chaotic battle in front of him.

Although no one had been seriously injured yet, the longer they fought, the greater the risk. As an elite pilot, He Kui was held back by the delay of his remote connection, restricting him to the skills of a standard Red-level pilot.

For regular MS pilots, their maneuvers were predictable since their movements were streamlined by automated systems. He Kui could anticipate these moves and react in advance.

However, the pilot of the Raider Strike he was facing was undoubtedly a maniac. His maneuvers were wildly personal, far removed from the usual, mechanized movements of typical natural-human systems.

And unfortunately, He Kui was the only pilot fast enough to keep up with the Raider Strike's movements. They twisted, dove, climbed, their weapons blazing as their wing trails streaked across the sky. But it was clear He Kui was losing ground; each hit from the Raider Strike's live rounds drained his energy reserves, and his power levels crept steadily downward.

If this kept up, he'd be out of energy soon.

"Surrender, how about it?" The Raider Strike's pilot aimed his beam rifle at He Kui's cockpit, sneering with both confidence and hatred.

"Why?"

"Because it's an order."

"Got it."

Before the pilot could react, He Kui charged forward, his flyer heading straight for the Raider Strike. The enemy pilot, assuming He Kui was a coward, was caught off guard as He Kui's flyer darted under him and severed his opponent's gun arm.

"You think this will let you win? Without a flyer, you're doomed!"

The enemy pilot's voice dripped with crazed rage as he reconfigured his Raider Strike back to its flight mode, swooping down and showering He Kui with machine gun fire.

"Yeah, doomed," He Kui sighed, knowing his Aegis would soon be sacrificed. He had no choice; if this battle dragged on, the lives of the older mechanics, the young soldier who confessed her feelings to him, and even the president himself would all be at risk.

The high-level firepower they'd gained from Edward and the DINNs could hold the line without him. He Kui's only task now was to ensure that this enemy didn't escape. The costly upgrade needed for his current Aegis convinced him that this was the time to part ways with it.

He activated the loudspeaker. "As long as there's no peace, 'Pallas' will live on! Await my return!"

With those words, he transformed into MA mode and launched straight into a head-on collision with the Raider Strike, leaving no room for retreat.

"What are you doing?" The enemy pilot's voice wavered with panic, realizing He Kui's intent. But his diving trajectory left him no time to pull up or dodge.

"Taking you to hell to surrender with me," He Kui replied darkly.

While the other pilot charged recklessly, He Kui calmly initiated his self-destruct protocol, the explosion engulfing the sky.

". . . Who was that hero?"

Edward, slicing a Dagger in half, looked up at the blazing remnants in the sky, visibly moved.

"No idea," murmured the DINN team leader, still shaken by the sacrifice he had just witnessed. From his vantage point, he had seen He Kui trigger the explosion as if ensuring his demise was complete.

"'Pallas'… What a terrifying organization. Brainwashing? Control?" The leader resolved to submit a detailed report to the National Defense Council.

Meanwhile, He Kui, back in his radar room, felt a pang of loss as he noted the loss of his Aegis.

"Five million lasted a long time," he muttered, trying to console himself as he enlarged the design for the Aegis 2.0 on his screen. The new design boasted more lifelike skin, flexible joints, and a quantum communication system, potentially allowing him to control two Aegis units simultaneously.

"Once this is ready, I'll have Ro come down for a visit," he murmured. With his goals firmly set, he closed the radar room door.

There was still time before dawn, and he wondered if the others were awake.

"Shi He, Su Lei?"

He Kui tiptoed into the room, pushing the sliding door open.

"You're back so late?" Shi He's soft voice called out from where she was seated by the dim glow of the computer.

"It got a bit hectic. Where's Su Lei?"

"She's asleep," Shi He gestured for silence, standing up to greet him.

"Is it done?" she asked, embracing him gently.

"Yeah, more or less," He Kui replied, feeling her warmth.

He gently brushed her back. "Sorry for making you worry."

Shi He smiled, her eyes reflecting a quiet joy. "It's alright. Here, I made a Haro for you." She handed him the miniature Haro she'd crafted.

[Shi He's micro-assembly skill, Level A (53871/100,000)]

He Kui smiled at her growing skill, realizing she was already halfway to his own S rank.

"The foundation has an opening event tomorrow. Will you come?"

"Of course, I'll go with you. I have a seminar to attend too."

Grateful for the respite his remote-controlled skills granted him, He Kui returned to the quiet rhythm of his role as a director and employer.

Meanwhile, in the vast South American desert, a silent ceremony was taking place—organized by the interim South American United government and led by President Rodriguez—a memorial service for fallen heroes.
