Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Rosalind
Returning to the residential area, the streets were completely deserted.
Lynn walked through the alleys with practiced ease until he reached a corner.
There, nestled among a profusion of blooming flowers, stood a quiet little house his beautiful teacher Rosalind's residence.
"Come in, Lynn."
Just as Lynn was about to step into the courtyard and admire the flowers growing there, a gentle voice drifted through the air, carrying a soft floral scent.
It was Rosalind's voice.
He pushed open the door and followed the stone path through the courtyard.
The flowers swayed lightly in the breeze, releasing their fragrant aroma.
Six months ago, he knew nothing about these plants, but after months of study, he could now recognize more than half of them.
The mysteries and profundities of the wizarding world had, little by little, seeped into his daily life.
Upon entering the house, Lynn's gaze was immediately drawn to Rosalind, who sat in a corner of the room.
She was still wearing her elegant wizard robe, its design subtly accentuating her graceful figure.
Her golden hair cascaded in natural curls over her shoulders, revealing glimpses of her smooth, delicate neck.
Rosalind was seated at a small bar, her slender fingers gently closing a book as she raised a porcelain cup of milk-infused tea to her lips.
A flick of her tongue brushed against her lips as she finished her drink. Only then did she turn her gaze toward Lynn.
Her face was warm and serene, her curvaceous figure complemented by a gentle smile that filled the room with an air of kindness and tranquility like a caring elder sister from next door.
Just seeing her smile made Lynn feel at ease.
Especially in this world of dark wizards, where eight out of ten wizards looked bizarre, and even the scar-faced Wizard Drey was considered "decent-looking" by comparison.
Compared to them, Lynn felt incredibly fortunate to have such a gentle and elegant teacher.
"Sorry, Lynn, I was delayed by some matters over the past six months."
Rosalind spoke with a soft voice, tinged with a hint of apology.
Hearing his teacher apologize made Lynn feel even more appreciative.
He knew that most wizards would never express any form of regret to their apprentices.
"It's all right, Teacher."
Though he had mixed emotions, Lynn remained respectful and composed, showing no sign of displeasure.
"Did you read the books I gave you? And… your current level of proficiency…"
Rosalind trailed off mid-sentence, slightly surprised. "You're already a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice? Looks like I returned just in time."
Lynn had already been a Level 1 Apprentice when he first arrived at the Furnace, which gave him a considerable advantage over others.
Reaching Level 2 in six months was faster than most, but not unprecedented. It placed him in the category of a minor genius an achievement within reason.
"I've finished reading the books you gave me and have gained a basic understanding of natural wizards," Lynn replied truthfully, without elaborating on his abilities.
Perhaps out of self-preservation, he was cautious not to reveal his full potential.
After all, this was the world of wizards. Even though Rosalind appeared kind and gentle, Lynn was well aware that he lived in a realm dominated by dark wizards. He remained ever vigilant.
"Good." Rosalind nodded, then proceeded to test Lynn's comprehension of the books. Satisfied with his understanding, she smiled approvingly.
"Not bad. Even without my guidance, you haven't wasted your time."
"Mmm…"
Rosalind murmured, as if deep in thought, then raised a finger.
At that moment, a vine sprouted from the floor and slowly extended toward a corner of the room.
It climbed up the walls and reached a certain spot on the second floor before gradually retreating.
When the vine returned, it carried a crystal orb glowing with a faint green light. It floated gently down toward Lynn.
"This is both my apology and a small gift to celebrate your advancement to a Level 2 Apprentice. Take it, Lynn."
Rosalind smiled gracefully, her delicate features resembling a painting. With a flick of her hand, the vine extended toward Lynn.
Hearing this, Lynn was taken aback, almost overwhelmed by surprise.
Instinctively, he reached out and caught the crystal orb.
He had assumed that his teacher's apology was already a great kindness he never expected her to give him an actual gift as well.
Although he didn't yet know the exact function of this crystal orb, he was certain that, coming from a full-fledged wizard, even a seemingly trivial object was valuable to a mere Level 2 Apprentice.
"This is a crystal orb that can measure spiritual power, physical condition, and spell potency. If it were a flawless version, even official wizards would covet it but the one you have is a defective piece," Rosalind explained.
Listening to her, Lynn's heart trembled. Wasn't this similar to the functions of the Spell Testing Chamber?
"Teacher, this crystal orb… it seems a lot like the Spell Testing Chamber…"
Lynn asked instinctively.
Rosalind chuckled. "You're not wrong to think that. However, the true purpose of the Spell Testing Chamber is something apprentices like you have yet to fully understand."
She paused for a moment before continuing, "Compared to that, this crystal orb is just right for you. Its power is limited it can't measure the spiritual energy or magic of an official wizard, making it perfect for an apprentice like yourself. Take some time to study it, and you'll find it useful."
Lynn nodded, feeling a sense of relief.
Indeed, if this object were truly meant for full-fledged wizards, it would be useless to him as a mere apprentice. But since it was a defective piece, it might suit his needs at least in some capacity.
Of course, he would need to explore its functions on his own.
Having given him a small gift, Rosalind seemed content.
She cleared her throat softly, her expression turning more serious.
"Now then, Lynn, let's pick up where we left off six months ago."
"Since you already have a basic understanding of natural wizards, I won't waste time on the fundamentals. I'll summarize."
"As natural wizards, our training differs from elemental wizards and bloodline wizards during the apprentice stage, but the gap isn't significant. Our methods are closer to elemental wizards. Bloodline wizards, on the other hand, need to inject various bloodlines to enhance their abilities…"
"You should have read about these concepts in the books, so I won't repeat them. Instead, I will now explain the true essence of a natural wizard what lies beyond the apprentice stage, once you step into the ranks of a full-fledged wizard…"
