Chapter 26: Chapter 26: The Summoning Order
Beneath the vast blue sky, in the Furnace Battlefield, a black dragon broke away from the battle lines and flew toward the Furnace.
Beyond the Furnace, a black dragon slowly approached from the horizon, carrying a witch Aestrey.
"My teacher told me that I have full authority over this operation and granted me the highest level of command. But if I exercise this authority, will the official wizards object?"
Aestrey furrowed her brows slightly, seeming to weigh the feasibility of her plan.
"Don't worry, Aestrey," the black dragon chuckled, its tone relaxed.
"If you were to summon the official wizards themselves, there might be some resistance. But if it's just their apprentices? That won't be a problem."
"That's good to hear."
Aestrey lifted her delicate nose slightly, a hint of satisfaction appearing on her lips.
"The Furnace apprentices are our assets; they shouldn't be wasted as cannon fodder on the front lines. Meanwhile, the official wizards' apprentices are all stationed in the Furnace, avoiding battle entirely. This arrangement is simply unacceptable!"
Her violet eyes shimmered like a starry sky.
"My teacher said that once I advance to a level 3 Wizard, half of the contracted wizards and apprentices in the Furnace will be assigned to me, and I can begin building my Furnace. These contracted apprentices are valuable assets selling them to other extraordinary factions would be far better than letting them die on the battlefield."
"Those official wizards' apprentices already enjoy abundant resources. Yet, when war comes, they refuse to contribute to the Furnace. Ridiculous!"
"The resources spent on a single wizard apprentice could sustain ten free apprentices!"
"These apprentices are nothing but parasites feeding off the Furnace. If they refuse to contribute, then what's the point of keeping them around?"
Aestrey's violet eyes flashed with a hint of coldness as she spoke.
The black dragon listened to her meticulously calculate the value each apprentice brought to the Furnace and couldn't help but chuckle.
However, it had no intention of interfering with her plan.
No matter what Aestrey intended to do, the black dragon would let her proceed.
Considering how much the "old man" favored her, as long as she didn't blow up the Furnace, she could do whatever she wanted.
As for the lives of the Furnace apprentices?
As the black dragon had said earlier as long as no official wizards were involved directly, even their beloved apprentices would have to obey Aestrey's orders.
After all, strictly speaking, everything in the Furnace apprentices, resources, and more belonged to the Furnace's ruler.
And for now, that ruler was Aestrey.
Under Rosalind's guidance, Lynn felt that his potion-making skills were advancing rapidly.
Given a little more time, he was confident that before reaching the Third-level Wizard Apprentice level, he could master enough alchemical knowledge to enter the Potion Garden and explore its mysteries firsthand.
However, fate had other plans.
His aspirations were abruptly shattered when Sonya delivered a thunderous piece of news.
Lynn had been drafted.
He was being sent to the Furnace Battlefield!
The announcement came as a complete shock to him and, in fact, to everyone.
Sonya, Colin, the wizard apprentices in the Potion Department, the official wizards' apprentices in the Alchemy Department, and even those in other divisions were all equally stunned.
The draft order came directly from the Furnace's core, bearing the unmistakable seal of the Furnace's ruler.
Even the official wizards were bewildered by this unprecedented directive.
For over a hundred years, spanning more than ten consecutive wars, nothing like this had ever happened.
The official wizards had always assumed that they could protect their apprentices, ensuring a degree of safety for them.
This was considered one of the Furnace's privileges for official wizards.
After all, once they became official wizards, their contracts with the Furnace were no longer purely master-servant relationships but rather a form of vassalage or symbiosis.
Thus, granting them certain privileges made sense.
But this time, an official summons had been issued, explicitly ordering wizard apprentices to fight on the battlefield.
It was entirely unprecedented.
Despite their frustrations, no one could defy a command carrying the Furnace ruler's exclusive sigil.
Even their teacher, Rosalind, could only try to pull some strings and investigate the matter.
Eventually, through a level 3 Wizard, she discovered the reason behind the summons.
The Furnace's ruler had handed full command of the war effort to the Furnace's "little princess."
In other words, it was Aestrey herself who decreed that the official wizards' apprentices must fight on the front lines!
The apprentices were furious. Many cursed under their breath, but none dared openly resist the order.
After all, their contracts with the Furnace were absolute.
In the world of wizards, contracts were not just legal documents; they were imbued with powerful magical forces.
Breaking one meant facing a fate worse than death.
The contract explicitly stated that they must "defend the Furnace and fight for it."
Even the apprentices of official wizards were bound by this clause.
In the past, the Furnace's ruler had delegated many responsibilities, allowing apprentices to grow in relative safety.
But now, with Aestrey in power, everything had changed.
This time, the situation at the Furnace's war front was drastically different from before.
Previously, thousands of wizard apprentices and magical beasts would rush out of the Furnace, with only a handful of official wizards providing support.
But now, even though the apprentices remained the main force, numerous official wizards were watching from the Furnace above.
Standing among the crowd, Lynn and Colin donned their standard robes, their expressions heavy with unease.
Lynn, in particular, had already cursed Aestrey in his mind countless times.
Originally, he had planned to further his knowledge in potion-making and gain access to the core areas of the Potion Garden.
But now, his plans had been completely disrupted he was being forced onto the Furnace Battlefield.
Previously, he had paid little attention to the war, believing it had nothing to do with him.
But with the Furnace's draft order in effect, and with his contract binding him, there was no escaping it.
Just then, a deafening roar echoed through the skies above the Furnace.
A black dragon soared into the air, and on its back stood a lone figure Aestrey.
With a faint smile, she surveyed the elite wizard apprentices below.
Each of them was extraordinarily gifted after all, they were the students of official wizards.
Yet in her eyes, they were nothing more than parasites.
"These people are already so difficult to control. When they become official wizards themselves, hah... I can only imagine."
The black dragon let out another thunderous roar, signaling the beginning of the Furnace's reinforcement plan...
