Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 170: Chapter 170: The Mutated Nightmare Body

Richard named the body he created the "Nightmare Body."

Nightmare Power is a fascinating force that can turn imagination into reality. Richard crafted a shell using Nightmare Power, and at the moment of completion, he envisioned what it should become.

Yes, he imagined it.

Nightmare Power can be altered by consciousness.

Under Richard's imagination, the shell woven from Nightmare Power transformed into real flesh and blood.

This flesh and blood looked and felt identical to that of the material world. However, when Richard activated his energy vision, the shell was covered with intricate pathways of light.

Nightmare Power hadn't truly transformed into flesh; the flesh was merely an incredibly realistic illusion.

This hypothesis was confirmed when Richard tore off a piece of flesh, and it turned back into black Nightmare Power, dispersing into the ground.

Although the transformation was an illusion, it was so convincing that when Richard entered the Nightmare Body, he genuinely felt he was inhabiting a real body. It was akin to the comforting warmth of putting on clothes after running naked in the cold wind for a long time.

Richard couldn't help but exclaim:

"Having a body feels great!"

Within the Nightmare Body, the cycles of Nightmare Power and magical power were distinct and separate, forming their own systems without interference.

Richard attempted to use enhancement spells on the Nightmare Body, and the results were satisfying.

The spells' enhancements were still effective on the body.

After crafting the body, Richard stepped out of the room.

By this time, the Black Sun had risen, and the dream rift brought by the Blood Moon had vanished, with the Nightmare Spirits retreating to their hidden corners in the village.

Richard walked through the village, knowing that although the Black Sun was terrifying, it posed no danger unless directly stared at.

Its sunlight on Richard's Nightmare Body felt pleasantly warm.

With the Nightmare Body, Richard began exploring the areas surrounding the village.

One village's Nightmare Spirits were too few; crafting a body capable of unleashing Richard's full power would require at least fifty thousand units of Nightmare Power. Relying on a single village would take an indeterminate amount of time.

Expanding his territory was the right approach.

In the Wizard World, human villages don't exist in isolation in the wilderness. The presence of a village indicates nearby human cities, perhaps even kingdoms or wizard academies.

Although populous areas would likely have Nightmare Lords, Richard could still glean some benefits from these remote villages.

As Richard expected, about ten kilometers from the village, he discovered another village, and according to Ulysses' scans, no nightmare creatures stronger than Nightmare Spirits resided there either.

"Caw, it seems this place is a new human settlement," Ulysses remarked after circling the village and perching on Richard's shoulder. As a soul projection, even if he perished, it wouldn't harm his true form, making him perfect for reconnaissance.

"This settlement probably hasn't been around for more than fifty years. Otherwise, there'd be Little Nightmares as overseers."

"Little Nightmares?" Richard asked, curious.

"Caw, Little Nightmares are evolved Nightmare Spirits. These little ones have reached the level of a first-tier creature, with strength depending on their combat experience and amount of Nightmare Power," Ulysses explained.

Richard nodded. "It seems nightmare creatures operate under a feudal system."

"Caw, pretty much. The world is vast. If a Nightmare Lord had to personally collect Nightmare Power from each Nightmare Spirit, they'd never have time for anything else. By delegating, they only need to deal with the leaders of their territories for Nightmare Power.

Lords delegate to knights, knights to Great Nightmares, and so on. It's likely similar in the Wizard World."

Leaving the village, Richard discovered several more villages, none with overseers.

When the Blood Moon rose, Richard replicated his previous actions, thoroughly extracting Nightmare Power from these villages.

In one night, Richard harvested nearly five thousand units of Nightmare Power from four villages.

Looking at the human-head-sized mass of Nightmare Power in his hand, Richard nodded in satisfaction.

The night's work hadn't been in vain.

Returning to the first village, Richard found a quiet room to attempt integrating the Nightmare Power into his Nightmare Body's cycle.

The Nightmare Body was an experiment Richard crafted, modeled after Nightmare Spirits. Since Nightmare Spirits could enhance themselves by absorbing Nightmare Power, the Nightmare Body should theoretically do the same.

The integration went smoothly; the process felt seamless. Yet, after fully absorbing the five thousand units of Nightmare Power, Richard didn't notice any significant changes.

The Nightmare Body hadn't strengthened.

Richard stepped out of the Nightmare Body, contemplating the situation.

"It seems my theory was incorrect. The enhancement of nightmare creatures isn't solely related to the energy cycle."

In his energy vision, the Nightmare Power cycle appeared immensely robust, with tiny pathways of light extending from it to the body's shell. However, this connection merely maintained the shell's existence and didn't enhance it with increased Nightmare Power.

Richard studied the shell, pondering for a moment before a thought struck him.

"Perhaps I should add something."

He rummaged around the room, quickly finding the black dust left from Nightmare Spirits' deaths during his experiments.

The composition of this dust was unknown, and Richard hadn't found any use for it, so he set it aside as a sample.

Richard sprinkled the dust over the Nightmare Body, thinking that perhaps the lack of change was due to the absence of these remnants.

Upon contact with the dust, the Nightmare Body's internal energy cycle underwent a mutation.

The energy pathways where the dust touched thickened, with the Nightmare Power cycle continuously feeding Nightmare Power.

During this process, the illusion of reality vanished, allowing Richard to observe the black dust merging with the Nightmare Body.

"It really was this stuff," Richard couldn't help but smile.

Experimentation sometimes requires luck.

Once the black dust fully integrated, the Nightmare Body's illusion of reality returned.

Just as Richard prepared to enter the Nightmare Body to experience its changes, an unexpected event occurred.

The previously mindless Nightmare Body suddenly opened its eyes.

"What! It's alive!"

Richard's mind raced, and he immediately prepared a sealing spell with his magic.

Chains of blue runes shot from his hands, quickly sealing the Nightmare Body in a block of blue-toned ice amber.

The rune chain sealing spell, after Richard's modifications, had significantly enhanced sealing capabilities and a new appearance.

It resembled a smaller version of the Deathly Ice Mountain Sealing Spell.

Staring at the ice-encased amber, Richard's expression darkened.

"I worked so hard to create a body, and now it might've turned into a nightmare creature because of some dust."

Through the seal, Richard began probing the body's condition with his mental power. If the Nightmare Body had truly transformed into a nightmare creature, its internal structure would have changed.

At the very least, that disgusting black liquid would have appeared.

After examining it, Richard received both good and bad news.

The bad news was that the black liquid had indeed appeared.

The good news was that the sealing spell seemed to have halted the body's transformation, and due to Richard's swift action, the transformation hadn't progressed far.

In the transformed parts of the body, Richard found something resembling a core.

This was something he'd never encountered during his previous dissections of Nightmare Spirits.

Richard looked at the Nightmare Body, stroking his chin, the darkness on his face turning to contemplation.

It's rare for a new experiment to go smoothly; most succeed only after numerous failures.

"It seems the secret of nightmare creatures is more complex than I thought."

Richard noted the change, then broke the seal and quickly extracted the core from the body before resealing it.

Unsure if the body could revert to its original state, Richard preferred preserving the new experimental material over sealing the Nightmare Body.

To Richard's surprise, after removing the core, the Nightmare Body's transformation stopped.

Looking at the core, Richard's face lit up with excitement.

"It seems this thing is the cause of the body's transformation."

This was a new discovery.

After extracting the core, Richard examined the remaining Nightmare Power in the Nightmare Body's cycle and found it lacking about three hundred units.

It seemed that Nightmare Power had been used in the core's transformation and the black liquid.

Just then, Ulysses flew in from outside. Richard showed him the core and recounted the events.

"Ulysses, do you recognize this thing?"

Ulysses shook his head at the core:

"Caw, no. I usually just swallow nightmare creatures whole. But I've heard a legend that Nightmare Kings don't die. To defeat one, you must either trap it in a field of fear or hide its heart."

Listening, Richard looked at the core in his hand, an idea forming in his mind.

He extracted some Nightmare Power from the Nightmare Body as a precaution, then replaced the core within it.

"Caw, what are you up to? Trying to possess a nightmare creature?" Ulysses asked, curious.

Richard shook his head. "Just an experiment. I have a hypothesis and want to see if it's true."

Once the core returned to the Nightmare Body, the transformation resumed, quickly completing as a new consciousness emerged within.

At that moment, Richard plunged his hand into the Nightmare Body, instantly sealing the core again with rune chains.

With the core sealed, Richard watched the Nightmare Body anxiously for changes.

If his idea was correct, the body wouldn't turn to dust.

As time passed, the transformed Nightmare Body showed no signs of dusting.

Seeing this, Richard attempted to enter the body, finding no residual consciousness during the process.

"Heh heh heh, Ulysses, you've made a great contribution!" Richard cackled to Ulysses. "These nightmare creatures' consciousness and bodies are separate. The core houses their consciousness, and separating the core from the body turns them into vegetative states!"
