Chapter 105: Gratitude for Nature's Gifts
Tristan, under the escort of a cavalry unit, dashed toward Rock Snow City. Along the way, many nobles joined, gradually forming a group of nearly two hundred people.
Everyone looked rather ragged at this moment, some even injured. The worst injured among them was a viscount who had been flung by a concrete mixer truck, which then ran over one of his legs.
Although he was later rescued by his two attendants, his injuries were so severe that his prognosis was not optimistic, having only incoming breath without exhaling.
Even if he could hold out until Rock Snow City, it would only be hanging by a thread.
The others also had various injuries. Even Tristan encountered a unit of Black Armored Cavalry while breaking through. Those men were highly skilled and well trained.
The guards under Tristan fought desperately, and with the help of other nobles who arrived, they managed to repel the Black Armored Cavalry. Tristan also received a sword slash to his knee.
He merely bandaged it quickly and continued to flee in pain, fortunately, they were not too far from Rock Snow City, only a day and night's ride on horseback.
Regardless, the plan was to escape back first. There, they had about two to three thousand men left, along with the Figrola Family's guards and the city's able-bodied men. A strike might not be possible, but if they just defended the city, they should be able to hold out for a while.
The assumption was that the enemy would not use the giant dragon, but just thinking of that White Dragon caused Tristan's head to ache again.
Previously, he had realized that those dragons were too powerful and nearly had no natural enemies on the Bratis Continent, which is why after much deliberation he had decided to surrender to the Wing Tribe.
Yet, after surrendering, he still faced the dilemma of how to deal with the dragons. Moreover, this battle made Tristan realize that the Wing Tribe was not invincible.
They too could suffer defeat. Although Solomon, for some reason, had only sent three hundred men, those three hundred were indeed beaten by Merlin and the Double Rest Sect, with most of them killed or injured.
Tristan's gaze flickered as various thoughts crossed his mind.
But before he could ponder further, he heard a series of exclamations from behind. Tristan looked in the direction of the noise and saw a huge white figure swiftly approaching from behind them.
It was a dragon! The White Dragon!!!
Tristan and the nobles all turned pale, spurring their horses onward. However, the White Dragon seemed invigorated upon seeing them and sped up its flight.
Four legs could never outrun wings.
Soon, the White Dragon leaped over their heads and landed about thirty steps ahead, blocking their path.
The enormous dragon head menacingly stared at the group.
The Lady atop the dragon shouted, "Tristan!"
Seeing that many were looking in the same direction, she smiled triumphantly, "Wow, he really is here."
Miss Rabbit had never seen Tristan before and didn't know what he looked like; she had just called out randomly, not expecting to actually snag such a big fish.
Tristan's heart sank, he had hoped the other nobles would join him in defending against the White Dragon, but after exchanging glances, the rest scattered in all directions.
Only Tristan and his twelve guards remained in place.
Tristan wanted to run too, but the White Dragon was watching him closely.
Just as one guard was about to reach for the sword on his waist, the White Dragon leaned over and snapped it up, followed by a chilling crunching sound heard by Tristan and the others.
Lady suggested in a friendly manner, "It's best if you don't show any hostility in front of the White Queen, otherwise I can't guarantee your safety."
Perhaps having realized he couldn't escape his fate, Tristan calmed down and said, "You've won this battle. What more do you want, my life?"
"No, although I'm quite enraged that you allied with the Wing Tribe to invade the West, I won't kill you for it."
After a pause, the girl added, "I need to spare your life, so you can atone for the mistakes you've made."
"How do I atone?" Tristan frowned.
"Just follow the Empire's long-standing tradition, you can write a letter to the Panglos Family, asking them to prepare a ransom."
"......."
Tristan didn't know what to say.
They had hoped to make a fortune in the West but hadn't earned a single silver coin; instead, they were now going to lose a large sum of money.
But hearing the Lady say this, the Family Head of the Panglos Family also breathed a sigh of relief, as her willingness to handle the captives traditionally meant he wasn't in immediate danger.
"How much do you want?" Tristan asked.
However, the Lady waved her hand dismissively, "We'll talk about that when we get back. Just tie up your hands and feet for now, and make sure they're secure."
Hearing this, Tristan no longer resisted and allowed the guard to bind his hands and feet as the girl had requested.
Miss Rabbit then tied him to the back of the dragon and, without caring about the other guards, hurriedly commanded the White Dragon to continue onwards, pursuing the next target.
The Lady, sharp-eyed, noticed that many nobles were among the group—each a bag of gold lions. Although they weren't as valuable as Tristan, adhering to the praiseworthy tradition of thrift, she naturally intended to make as much as possible.
Thus, for the next half a day, Ireya was busy capturing officers from the Alliance Army, while Li Yu was roped in to help her spot targets with a telescope.
Miss Rabbit promised to share the ransom with the Prophet of the Double Rest Sect, but Li Yu tactfully declined.
The Church didn't need money at the moment, whereas the Lady and the Arias Family would have many uses for money later on, so taking this opportunity to save more was a good idea.
It wasn't until the back of the giant dragon was full of captives, and because there was no room left, Miss Rabbit had to painfully release some of the less wealthy minor nobles to make space for the more valuable major nobles.
The Lady apologetically said to Tristan and the others, "Squeeze in a bit more, squeeze in a bit more... we'll be heading back soon."
However, she seemed completely addicted and showed no signs of wanting to return.
Only when the sun was about to set and it was almost time for Li Yu to end his shift did Miss Rabbit reluctantly start heading back.
On the way back, the girl's luck exploded, and she even stumbled upon an earl, which made the Lady so happy that she almost couldn't stop smiling.
"I know this one, I know this one. I met him once at the Royal Capital. I heard his family is very wealthy. Hmm, during the Martial Arts event, he seemed to be sitting right behind Edward II."
Li Yu was a bit bemused, wondering if anyone might think Miss Rabbit was on a seaside scavenger hunt, digging for clams and picking up crabs on the beach, accepting the gifts of nature.
