Work Prophet

Chapter 66: Raid on Black Stone City

Lannita received some good news before she set out: Merlin, the prophet of the Double Rest Sect, was said to have just appeared at Solid Stone Castle, visiting the barbarians who had settled there.

It seemed she was planning to recruit more warriors for the Double Rest Sect and the Arias clan.

This further strengthened Lannita's assumption that Ireya didn't have that many Italian Cannons at her disposal; otherwise, she wouldn't need to be so cautious.

At the same time, Merlin's absence from Green Field also meant the safety of her journey to Black Stone City would be better ensured.

After all, it only took half a day to travel from Green Field to Black Stone City, and starting from Solid Stone Castle, it would take at least six days to arrive. By the time Black Stone City would be found under attack, Merlin wouldn't be able to make it back.

Therefore, Lannita hesitated no more; by early next morning, she mounted her White Dragon and flew toward Black Stone City.

She set off at dawn, arriving over Black Stone City before sunset, overlooking the bustling town beneath her feet.

The people there remained oblivious to the impending disaster; having just finished a day's hard work, many were preparing to go home for their meal or head to the tavern for a drink, making the streets bustling at this hour.

Lannita first located the largest castle in the city, where Angela was likely to reside without surprise, and she also took mental note of several places dense with people or buildings.

Having just experienced an assassination attempt by the Blood Moon Association, the young girl's mood was sour. This time, she planned to give the people of this city an unforgettable lesson and show those who dared oppose her the consequences of standing against her.

Lannita licked her lips, ready to order the White Dragon to dive down, but at the next moment, she saw a small black dot appear to her southeast.

Lannita narrowed her eyes; the black dot was moving fast, heading her way, and in no time, it had arrived in front of her.

Upon seeing the person's appearance, a look of surprise crossed the girl's face, "You're the...what's their name...Joseph, from the Red Collar Tribe?"

"I am Yaxu, Lady Lannita," the newcomer bowed, "I was with your brother on his journey to the Western Frontier to challenge Yilei. Lord Shajia wanted to prove he was the greatest warrior and also to avenge our fallen brethren."

"I heard from Solomon that you were their translator," the young girl raised an eyebrow, "Since you're still alive, what about Shajia and the others?"

"Lord Shajia is dead," Yaxu said with a mournful tone, "We failed, Merlin had prophesied our arrival, and the Arias clan was prepared in advance. We walked into their trap, and Lord Shajia fell in battle right there.

"The others fought back fiercely, but they were no match for the ambushers, and since we had already infiltrated the castle, we couldn't escape by wing. Aside from those who died in battle, the rest were captured."

"Then why are you here?" Lannita asked, her demeanor teasingly regarding Yaxu.

"Ireya and Merlin wanted to interrogate the surviving captives; they needed a translator," Yaxu showed a trace of shame, "To save my own life, I had to feign allegiance to them, but I haven't forgotten my tribe or my true beliefs."

"Is that so? Your faith seems quite steadfast."

Yaxu detected the mockery in Lannita's words and offered no further defense, simply saying, "I have come to see you for an urgent matter, and I beg you not to enter Black Stone City."

"Why?"

"Because Merlin is there waiting for you."

"You're lying, Merlin is at Solid Stone Castle right now."

"No, that's just a lie spread intentionally by the Arias clan and the Double Rest Sect."

Yaxu explained, "Merlin has prophesied your attack on Black Stone City, just as he did before with Lord Shajia's attack on Teacup Castle. They have been prepared for a long time, and if you go down now, you will fall right into their trap."

"A prophecy?" Lannita blinked, somewhat skeptical, for she could not discern anything unusual about Black Stone City beneath her feet.

However, as she had delayed here for a bit, the people below had already noticed her and her dragon. The crowd became agitated, starting to scatter and flee, but the young girl took another glance at the castle and the city gates.

She noted that those two places were exceptionally quiet, showing no sign of activity up to now.

This gave rise to a tinge of suspicion in her heart.

"This is not the place to talk." Yaxu looked anxious, "Lady Lannita, please follow me."

"Where do you want to take me?"

"Just nearby, to find a place free from disturbances."

"Then let me find it," said Lannita. She surveyed her surroundings, and her gaze finally settled on a dense forest in the distance, while she covertly noted Yaxu's reaction.

Seeing that his face did not betray any sign of disappointment or difficulty, nor did he suggest another place, he nodded in agreement quite straightforwardly. It seemed he only wished to leave Black Stone City with her as soon as possible. Lannita placed a bit more faith in Yaxu's words.

She took another look at Black Stone City beneath her, patted the White Dragon's neck, and directed it to head towards the woods.

Lannita remained cautious throughout, having the White Dragon circle above the forest a few times. She detected no sign of an ambush lurking inside.

Afterward, she chose a swampy area in the woods and had the White Dragon land on a small patch of land in the center. This way, if enemies were to launch a sudden attack, they would struggle to cross the swamp for a while.

Only then did Lannita turn to Yaxu again, "Have you been waiting for me in this vicinity all along?"

"No, I only arrived shortly before, just as I told you. Prophet Merlin foretold of your arrival, and I came here based on the timing of the prophecy."

"Then how come he did not predict that you would come to warn me?"

Lannita jumped down from dragonback, flapping her wings twice behind her, and landed smoothly on the ground.

"Even Merlin's monthly prophecies are limited in number," Yaxu said. "He may be powerful, but after all, he is not a True God."

"Wow, you hold him in high regard," she remarked.

"If you were to meet him, you would think so too."

"That does make me a bit curious," Lannita said, "Alright, I've temporarily abandoned the attack on Black Stone City as you suggested. Now tell me, what does Merlin plan to do about me?"

"Actually, his main target is not you, but the White Queen," Yaxu looked up at the White Dragon lying bored in the swamp, looking around idly.

"Does he have a way to kill the White Queen?"

"Yes, Merlin has previously killed a dragon together with that Lady. He possesses a very powerful Holy Artifact that even the giant dragon's sturdy Armor cannot withstand."

"What should I do then, return to Rock Snow City immediately?" Lannita asked.

"No, I think you should take this rare opportunity to destroy that artifact," Yaxu said gravely. "This way, there would be nothing left on this Continent that could harm the White Queen, as well as her two companions."
