Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Nightmare Ends
Masafumi Shinoda's POV
"What the hell... What am I watching?"
My eyes lock onto the aerial feed.
Fifteen Marmods. Swarming. Hungry. And right in the middle—two kids.
One carrying the other.
Moving like he's trained, but I know he's not. There's no Trion signature. No Trigger. Just raw survival.
My comms crackle.
"This is Shinoda. I've found the last of the neighbors. Fifteen Marmods. Yuri, we've got civilians—two kids caught in the middle."
"WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN—" Yuri shouts back.
I pull my earpiece away with a wince. "Don't scream. I'm going in."
The sky whips past as I drop. My boots slam into the street with a crater-crack. The Marmods snap toward me, a wall of twitching limbs and glowing blue eyes.
I draw my Trigger and raise my voice.
"Kogetsu—Whirlwind!"
Light floods my vision as twin blades explode from my arms in spiraling arcs, energy crackling off the edges.
And then—
I move.
A single step forward, and the whirlwind erupts.
I spin once—twice—my blades carving a cyclone of blue light. The air howls, a vortex ripping through steel, pavement, and monster flesh.
The Marmods don't even get a chance to scream.
Limbs scatter. Cores split. The rift-bred creatures are torn apart in a matter of seconds—clean, efficient, brutal.
When I stop spinning, silence falls.
The street is littered with twitching remains. Steam hisses from cauterized wounds.
I turn.
The boy is still standing. Barely.
His knees buckle.
His eyes meet mine for the briefest moment—wide, hollow, and dazed—before they roll back.
He collapses forward.
I'm already there, catching him before he hits the pavement. The girl on his back lets out a terrified whimper, but she doesn't let go. Her tiny fists are locked into his hoodie like it's the only thing left holding her world together.
"You're safe," I murmur to her. "It's okay. He did good."
She just sobs into his shoulder.
And I can't stop staring at him.
This kid. No Trigger. No Trion body. No combat gear. But somehow, he danced through a pack of Marmods like he could hear the beat of their every move.
It defies logic.
This wasn't reflex. This was something else.
Ren's Pov
I am at my last breath then I see a bright light cutting through the spiders, I see the same man with the two energy swords from before, I fall to my knees and pass out.
