Chapter 45:
Chapter 45:
The season had just been updated, and the original owner’s account, once ranked among the 100-star kings, had dropped to Xingyao 1.
In his first game, playing as the jungler with Li Bai, Jiang Feng won in under 15 minutes. In the second game, he chose Sun Shangxiang for the development role and finished the match just as quickly.
Throughout the four-hour drive, his phone kept chiming with the same notification:
“Victory.”
“Victory.”
“Victory.”
He had won sixteen consecutive games, climbing swiftly from Xing Yao back to King’s ten stars.
Although the program crew was curious, they didn’t interrupt him. They needed material for the show, and Jiang Feng, a city kid obsessed with gaming, was perfect. No one wanted to disturb him during the ride.
However, after hearing the continuous sound of victories, someone finally broke the silence.
“Do you really like this game?” the female choreographer asked, leaning in curiously. “What rank are you now?”
“King of Ten Stars,” Jiang Feng replied nonchalantly.
“King of Ten Stars?” The intern director, who also played Kings, stared at Jiang Feng in disbelief. “Didn’t the season just update yesterday? You’re already at ten stars? That’s crazy fast!”
The intern was shocked.
The beginning of the season was a tough time to climb the ranks. After the reset, even top-tier players, streamers, and professionals had fallen back to Xingyao 1.
“Wait,” the intern continued, “have you been on a winning streak this whole time?”
“Yeah,” Jiang Feng answered casually, showing no excitement. “It’s not that hard. Want to play too? There’s nothing else to do, so I can help you out. We can do a duo queue.”
The intern’s eyes lit up with excitement.
However, Jiang Nan shook his head in disapproval. “Brother, why did you bring your phone here? You know it’s not easy for you to pass your exams, and you’re spending time on games? There’s no future in that.”
Jiang Feng’s expression immediately darkened.
“Brother, you can’t stay a kid forever,” Jiang Nan continued, speaking with a sense of righteousness. “We need to contribute to society. Playing games is just a waste of time. I don’t want you sitting at home all day, living off Dad’s money and disappointing him.”
The self-righteous tone of Jiang Nan’s words almost made Jiang Feng laugh out of anger.
“Is gaming just a waste of time? Is getting good grades the only way to succeed?” Jiang Feng shot back. “Sure, studying is important, but it’s not the only path. All roads lead to Rome. If I want to be a professional player, why should you care? What’s wrong with playing games? Some gamers make millions every year through streaming.”
Jiang Feng’s tone grew colder. “I respect people who excel in academics and become scientists, but I don’t think my ambition to be a professional gamer is any less valuable. And for the record, I haven’t used Dad’s money since high school. How dare you compare yourself to me when you and your mom have been living off him?”
“Xiao Feng, my mom and your dad are married…” Jiang Nan started.
Jiang Feng let out a sarcastic laugh. “Are you an idiot? My mom had been dead for less than a year when they got married.”
His smile widened, revealing eight teeth as his eyes gleamed with anger. “My mom was still sick, and your mother, my dad’s so-called friend, used her job as a nurse to get close to him. I can’t stand scheming people like you. Don’t talk to me!”
Jiang Feng’s disgust was blatant.
Jiang Nan’s face paled, and his heart raced. He was horrified that Jiang Feng was speaking so bluntly on camera.
But Jiang Nan quickly composed himself, his eyes reddening. “Xiao Feng, you’ve misunderstood. I didn’t know you felt this way about my mom. Yes, she was a nurse at the hospital, but it wasn’t like you think…”
“Not like what I think?” Jiang Feng interrupted. “She moved into the house less than a year after my mom died. Don’t cry for the cameras.”
“Xiao Feng, we didn’t—” Jiang Nan tried to insist.
“Oh, sure, whatever you say,” Jiang Feng responded sarcastically. “Your mom’s already got the marriage certificate, hasn’t she? She’s in the house now. Your mom sure knows what she’s doing. If my dad wants to follow her around, that’s fine by me. But I don’t want to see you or her. And by the way, who thought it was a good idea to sign me up for this show? What were you thinking?”
