Chapter 608: The Devious Scheme
A few hours later...
As the sun set on the horizon, everyone was sitting in the living room. All of the windows were shut and the doors closed.
The power was finally back on as everyone sat in the living room, enjoying the air conditioner working once again.
Not a single person wanted to go outside as the lingering heat prevented Xiaoyun's idea of having a weekend BBQ.
"Yuqi, you don't have anything to do today?" Xiaoyun curiously asked, noticing her sitting next to her baby for almost the whole day.
"Work is work and break is break. I'm not going to work on my break day."
Seeing Yuqi turning her attention back to her baby, Xiaoyun didn't think much as he went back to watching the TV.
After the TV show ended, Leyan headed over to the kitchen to prepare dinner as everyone in the house started to get a little bored.
"I'm going back to studying."
As Lily headed back to the guest room, everyone looked a little surprised, except Shuli.
"Hey, hey, Shuli, when did Lily like to learn this much? Is there something going on in the school? I thought all the exams were already over." Nami curiously asked.
"She's trying to get selected by the professors into the mechanical engineering field. She has been practicing extra hard for it."
"Mechanical engineering? Let me go help her——"
Before Anna could finish talking, her phone suddenly started ringing. As she walked over ot the side to make a call, everyone's attention was towards Shuli.
"Is Nami's score good? How were her final exams?" Yueyue curiously asked.
"It went pretty okay... She's top of her class, that's for sure." Shuli replied, not giving any further details.
"Is it enough for her to get into the major she wanted?" Kate curiously asked.
"Not exactly. It's pretty competitive since the slots are very limited. A lot of people wanted to go into the same field as her."
"Why does she want mechanical engineering out of all the fields?" Wuli asked next, unable to understand Lily's choice.
"I don't know, you need to ask Lily about that..."
"Hey Xiaoyun, can you drive me to work for a second? Something went wrong with the machine in the factory."
Anna asked as she ended her phone call. Xiaoyun nodded as he quickly grabbed his car key from the clothes hanger.
"Sure. Just give me a second to wear my shoe first."
"Let me go with you guys."
Kate quickly grabbed her shoe, following the two of them to the garage as everyone else continued with their conversation.
---
As the three of them arrived in the factory, Anna quickly led them past various sections before stopping by a machine surrounded by a glass window.
Three people wearing a yellow hard helmet were standing before it, their faces looking a little confused until they noticed Anna walking over.
"Hey, boss, the machine just suddenly broke down. Do you have the manual for its repair?"
Anna quickly shook her head before she started examining what was wrong with the machine.
"How did you guys break it?" Anna curiously asked.
"We were just using it to make one of the more delicate parts for the new gun, and the thing started cranking out of the blue."
As the three of them walked around the entire machine, it was clear that some sort of internal part was broken.
"I'll have this fixed by Monday. You guys can go now."
"Thank you, Boss."
With all of the engineers walking out of the room, both Xiaoyun and Kate were a little confused as to why she wanted to fix the machine herself.
"Anna, why did you make them go away? You don't want to have them think of a solution together with you?" XIaoyun curiously asked.
"I don't need it."
Anna began to unscrew one of the metal plates on the side of the machine as the two of them stood on the side and watched.
Although they couldn't understand what she was doing, it made sense in their mind to diagnose the machine by taking it apart first.
"Shit. This damn thing snapped apart... No wonder the machine started cranking."
After she walked towards some sort of storage room and came back with what seemed to be extremely precise machine parts, she handed them right into Xiaoyun's hand.
"Make a spare one for me. I don't have extras to repair this."
"Sure."
As Xiaoyun cloned the machine part right before his hand, he suddenly felt a little headache before a new copy appeared in his other hand.
"You okay?" Anna and Kate both asked, noticing him almost falling over for a second.
"I'm fine... Here's your new part."
With the new part put into the machine, Anna screwed the plate back on before pressing the start button again.
"Great. Now it's working again. Thanks for the help."
"No problem."
Just as Anna turned off the machine and took the completed part that the machine had finished milling, Kate suddenly elbowed Xiaoyun on the side.
"Xiaoyun, don't forget your promise," Kate whispered.
"I know, I know... Just give me some time. I just finished thinking about what I needed to do for her to agree to it."
"What are you two talking about?"
Anna curiously asked as she came back from putting the completed part from the storage room.
"Nothing. Ahem, we're going home now?" Xiaoyun asked.
"Yeah. Unless you want to tour my factory right now... But no one else is working today." Anna answered.
"Actually, why don't you give me a tour of what you have been working on? We got some time before Leyan finishes cooking dinner."
"Sure."
As Anna began leading the two of them out of the factory and onto the sidewalk, Xiaoyun was a little blown away by the number of factories down the road.
Fifteen different factories in total, all with Koch's Armed factory label right at the very top of the buildings.
"You own all of them?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as she led them all the way to the sixth building.
"I don't own the building. I only own the machines inside... Weren't you the one who leased every building?" Anna questioned.
"Oh, right. Forgot about that..."
"Anyway, here's something that my engineers had been working on to make things less labor-intensive."
As the three of them entered past a door, they were instantly met with a long row of machines, all seemingly for textiles.
"We made this long assembly line for the new officer uniforms... And any other clothes we want to design and mass produce in the future."
"Damn... This is definitely impressive."
"You haven't seen it all yet. Let me show you the next one."
---
After being guided to five different factories, Anna finally stopped after Leyan gave Xiaoyun a phone call asking why they were not home yet.
"Time to go home."
As Xiaoyun started up the car, Anna quickly noticed Kate's face looking more and more grumpy for some reason.
"Kate, you okay?"
"I'm fine... Anna, you changed the percentage in the application, right?" Kate suddenly asked as the two of them sat in the back.
"Yeah."
"What percentage?"
"It's just the——"
"None of your business. Just drive your car." Kate instantly interrupted, not letting Anna explain.
Xiaoyun didn't question it again as he drove out of the parking lot, heading straight back home.
"Kate, why don't you want me to tell him about it?" Anna quietly asked.
"Because it's our business... He doesn't need to know about it as an outsider. Ahem, Xiaoyun, are we there yet?"
"Look at the road yourself, what do you think?"
The sudden passive-aggressive tone didn't bother Kate at all, as they were only halfway from their house.
"Hey, why did you say it like that? Kate was just asking a question." Anna questioned, feeling a little offended.
"She's the one calling her husband an outsider."
"She doesn't mean it." Anna quietly whispered.
"Oh, she means it exactly. She is probably already bored with me. No wonder she barely looked interested in sex last night."
"Kate, say something," Anna hurried, as Xiaoyun's tone started to become more and more aggressive towards her.
"Why do I need to say something? He can say whatever he wants about me. It's not like I can divorce him."
Seeing Kate refusing to back down, Anna quickly started to get a little worried as the topic started to become more and more serious.
"W-What? K-Kate, y-you aren't serious, right?" Anna nervously asked.
"Do I look like I'm joking? Only girls like you choose to stay in marriages and cry later after being dumped for being too boring.
If he weren't the mayor, I would have left him long ago to have a better boyfriend. Not to be a boring housewife one day."
The attack caught Anna a little off guard, her head unable to wrap around how the conversation had shifted so fast.
"Don't listen to her, Anna. Boring marriages are better than being a certain sorority girl who gets tossed around in Western society."
