Chapter 45: The Trio Learns About the Guild
"Noah, what's going on?" Ur asked him quickly.
"The magic contained within our guild marks has an effect that converts ambient and one's own excess magic power into life force to strengthen the body. The reason for Ultear's illness is that her physical constitution is too weak to handle her powerful magic. But by converting that excess magic into life force to strengthen herself, won't her body be able to handle it?"
"Does that mean... Ultear is cured?" Tears began to well up in Ur's eyes. She had worked so hard for so long to cure her daughter, and to suddenly hear that it was already done, she couldn't control her emotions.
"Not that quickly. This magic works slowly, gradually strengthening her physical constitution. This is to ensure it doesn't damage her body or her potential. She still needs treatment for the injuries she sustained at the Magic Development Bureau so she can fully recover her health. But as long as she continues the treatment, she will make a full recovery. Both the mismatch between her magic and her body and the injuries she once suffered can all be cured."
Noah gave her a definitive answer. Ur hugged Ultear and began to cry. "This is wonderful, Ultear! You can make a full recovery!"
Ultear also hugged her mother and shed tears of joy. "Mhm. Mama, you don't have to worry about my body anymore."
Everyone silently watched the mother and daughter cry, not wanting to disturb them.
After the two had composed themselves, Ur wiped her tears, stood up with Ultear, and said to everyone, "I'm sorry, you had to see that."
Makarov waved his hand. "Not at all. We just witnessed a mother and daughter with a sincere bond sharing a heartfelt moment. That is the best kind of emotion in the world, and it should never be laughed at."
Just then, Ur had a question. She turned to Noah. "Noah, since you can treat Ultear and you knew all along that the magic in the guild mark would be useful for her, why didn't you say so earlier?"
"It's simple. Because regardless of whether you and Ultear joined the guild, I was going to help treat her. I didn't say anything because I didn't want you to think I was trying to pressure you into joining. I don't want anyone to feel like they were threatened into joining our guild. That's not good for the guild, and it's not good for the person joining. Joining the guild of your own free will is always the best way!"
Hearing this, Ur felt Noah's care and love for his guild, and her impression of Fairy Tail became even better.
Ultear, standing at her side, was feeling her own condition. She felt more energetic, and her body felt more alive. She curiously moved her arms and legs. It was completely different from before. The oppressive feeling that had always faintly existed in her body was now almost gone. The high fever she'd always had, which had already improved after Noah's earlier treatment, was now replaced by a cool, clear-headed feeling.
Cana, who had been listening from the side, walked over with Erza and the others to congratulate Ultear, happy that she was regaining her health. The little girls gathered around Ultear and started chatting, asking her about the guild. They all began to talk at once.
The person who was mentioned the most was, naturally, Noah. Because every girl here had been influenced by him in some way, pulled out of a bad situation or state of mind. As they chatted, they grew happier and learned many things they hadn't known before. For example, that Cana's reunion with her father was because of Noah, that Erza and Kagura's village was saved by Noah, and that Ultear's rescue and reunion with her mother were also because of Noah. The girls' impression and feelings for him naturally deepened and grew fonder.
While the girls were chatting enthusiastically, Gray and Lyon were asking other guild members about the guild and about Noah. They weren't surprised to learn that Noah was an S-Class wizard; with his level of strength, that was to be expected. But when they heard that Gildarts was also an S-Class wizard and was even stronger than Noah, they were a little skeptical. From the way he acted, he didn't seem like one at all.
Finally, they learned that the Guild Master, Makarov, was one of the Ten Wizard Saints, the ten most powerful wizards on the entire continent of Ishgar, each of whom was far beyond an ordinary wizard. They fell silent. They were finally seeing the true vastness of the world. Even their own master, Ur, was not a Wizard Saint. No wonder she always told them that the world was large and full of powerful people, and that they shouldn't be trapped in their own small world.
While the others were talking, Ur found Makarov and asked him what kind of requests she could take.
"With your strength, taking on S-Class requests shouldn't be a problem. However, our guild has a rule that you must pass the S-Class Wizard Promotion Trial to become an S-Class wizard. So, for now, you won't be able to take S-Class jobs," Makarov explained.
"That's no problem, Master. I haven't taken a request in a long time. I need to start with other jobs to get the feel for it again. Even if you allowed me to take an S-Class quest, I wouldn't dare, for fear of some accident."
"That's good. The request board is over there. Just find one you like and bring it here to register."
"Then I'll go see if I can find a suitable request."
As Ur was about to go look, Noah stopped her. "Aren't you going to buy some daily necessities for Ultear and the others first?"
Ur slapped her forehead. "Right! There's been so much going on, I completely forgot. I need to buy some things for Ultear, and Gray and Lyon need some new clothes too. Ultear, Gray, Lyon, we're going shopping!"
Ur called her daughter and disciples to go shopping. Erza, Kagura, and Cana all wanted to go along, and Ur agreed.
Noah pulled Erza aside and handed her a stack of money from his pocket, over 100,000 Jewel. "Take this and buy some new clothes and personal items for yourself, Kagura, and Simon. I've noticed that the things you're using are very old."
"But this is too much! We don't need this much," Erza said, trying to hand the money back to him.
"Buy some things you want for yourselves. You don't have to be too frugal. Get some nice things for yourself and Kagura. You're still young, don't worry so much about it."
You're young too, only ten, and yet you're talking like a stuffy old man, Erza grumbled to herself. She then found Kagura, and they all went out with Ur's group to go shopping.
Only then did Noah finally have a chance to report the details of his experiences over the past few days to Makarov.
