Chapter 2: A very simple system
(No POV)
Many of these stories start with a wandering soul floating through an endless void, a dark foreverness, and by some luck get's chosen to be a hero, a villain, maybe a bit of both. This story does start out in said void with our protagonist sitting there doing nothing, looking off into space with bored eyes.
(1st POV)
'How long have I been here now?' I ponder as it's been a very long time since I've seen anything besides darkness, as very seldom will I see lights 'Another soul perhaps?' I amuse the idea of those lights being others like me, but that begs the question 'Were they reincarnated? Maybe sent to another life? Why am I still here?' I continue thinking such thoughts before hearing a high pitched 'Ding' sound in my head.
----------
Congratulation host for awakening the System.
Beginning bootup process, please hold.
----------
An unexpected voice sounds in my head before a mechanical sound goes off in my head, The closest thing I could describe it as is a mechanical 'Whirring' Sound. Soon it stops and the voice comes back and begins speaking again.
----------
Hello and welcome host, to the system. I have been programmed and made to help you with you're new life here in...
Oh! It appears we are not in a world yet. That's embarrassing for me. Apologees host, I have made an error. It seems I had not sent you to a new world yet. I was planning on revealing myself after 17 years, but it appears I have made a mistake.
----------
'You're saying I was suppose to be in a new world by now?' I questioned the system, not at all mad, as it's nice to finally be able to talk to someone or something other then myself.
[That is correct, apologees host for I have already failed you. But worry not, I shall send us to a world soon. And for compensation, you may choose the world] The systems voice is mechanical, but not cold. It sounds more embarrassed and regretful if anything.
'Alright, does it matter what world?' I ask the system and shortly receive a no as my answer, but was advised to choose a weaker and more simple world. This gives me a lot of worlds to choose, as many could be considered 'Safe' If you don't fuck around too much.
The first worlds that come to mind are popular ones like pokemon, highschool DXD, and such worlds. But while going to pokemon and being a trainer could be fun, I want to get into fights myself. And while DXD is one of those worlds, It's very dangerous where one wrong step and I could be killed. So both of those are out.
After a few more minutes of thought a certain anime comes to mind, a man gets isekaied to a fantasy world with a useless, blue haired goddess and gets into shenanigans daily. A world where you could easily survive if you don't act stupid. A perfect world to start out at. I look at the system and announce "I'd like to go to the world of Konosuba"
[An excellent choice as a safe world. Now before we go, I must explain my functions] After saying this a display appears before me with only four options.
[Status]
[Skills]
[Inventory]
[World jump]
Looking at these options, I am momentarily surprised, which the system seemed to have noticed [You appear confused, let me explain. This system was made as a basic one, nothing special. An example being that the status screen, while displaying your name, age, level, race, stats, and current wealth, does not have the feature of stat points. It is only to track your status, The skills option is the same. Inventory lets you hold an infinite amount of items without a size or weight limit, but certain things cannot be stored for obvious reasons. And world jump should be self explanatory]
After being informed of the systems features a sudden thought hit me "What about quests? Why is there no option for quests?" After all, it is weird for there to be no quest system, as most systems, even the worse ones, would usually have a quest system.
[Quests only appear once a certain criteria is met. An extra option felt unnecessary] After hearing it's answer I was somewhat satisfied, and thinking about it, if they seldom appear then why have a option that will always be empty? It was a waste to have it there if it was going to be empty all the time, so I kinda agreed with the system.
[Now before jumping into the new world, we shall assign your name, starting stats, and you will choose a starting skill] After saying this a new menu appeared, being my status page
--Status--
Name: None.
Age: 17.
Level: 0.
Race: Human.
HP: 0.
MP: 0.
STR: 0. (Warning: Must assign atleast one point)
END: 0. (Warning: Must assign atleast one point)
DEX: 0. (Warning: Must assign atleast one point)
INT: 0. (Warning: Must assign atleast one point)
WIS: 0. (Warning: Must assign atleast one point)
LUK: 0. (Warning: Must assign atleast one point)
Total wealth: 0.
Points to assign: Total 120. (Note from system: Originally 60 points, but as an apology for leaving host in void for seventeen years, it has been doubled)
(10 points is considered average for humans, 15 is considered excellent, 20 is considered prodigy, and 30 is considered superhuman)
--Status--
Looking at my status panel I couldn't help but grin 'Doubled points for being accidentally left in the void for seventeen years? A nice trade if you ask me' I focus on the empty name area and started going over names for myself 'What would be a good name? I could choose a name with hidden meaning, a name that's funny... Oh I got it!' Looking at the name section I input my name before turning to the stats area 'I could be a prodigy in everything, but being considered superhuman is very tempting aswell... decisions, decisions...' After a little of debate I finally made up my mind and filled in my status page, looking at it with something akin to pride.
--Status--
Name: Hank.
Age: 17.
Level: 1.
Race: Human.
HP: 250.
MP: 100.
STR: 25.
END: 25.
DEX: 20.
INT: 10.
WIS: 10.
LUK: 30.
Total wealth: 0.
--Status--
After looking over my status page the system starts to speak again [Now that you're status is complete, please choose a starting skill] After it says this another panel appears displaying a few decent skills.
--Selection--
Skill 1. Body enhancement {Once every two hours, you can Increase STR, END, and DEX by 50% for 2 minutes.}
Skill 2. Mana surge {Once a day you can surge your mana giving you an infinite amount for 2 minutes, but drains all mana and half health when timer runs out.}
Skill 3. Innate talent (Passive) {All sources of XP now yield double what they usually would.}
--Selection--
Looking over the skills, the first one out is obviously Mana surge. Now while using magic and throwing fire around sounds awesome, my current build isn't made for that. Body enhancement would be an amazing skill to have, but while it is a good skill made for my build, The cooldown is a turnoff. Innate talent is far more appealing for anyone who knows how XP and LVL works. That being the higher level you are, the more XP is needed to level up again. Example: You are level one and it takes about 100XP to level up, Congrats you're level two now! But your new requirement is 150XP, and each time it gets exponentially harder to level up.
Having thought about each skills worth, I chose Innate talent as my first skill. Once choosing my skill was over, the systems voice could once again be heard in my head [A good choice in the long run host. Now, time for a world jump, prepare yourself] Having heard the warning I tensed in anticipation, before feeling a weird pulling sensation and shortly loosing consciousness.
