Chapter 20: Test of loyalty - Part 2
"Miss Lawrence, is this your way of testing your employees' loyalty?" Kyrell questioned, making his way toward the desk.
"So you could tell." Sienna smiled and leaned back in her chair.
"It wasn't that difficult to notice."
"Mr. Winchester, you are quite perceptive. Impressive."
"Well, thank you." Kyrell tilted his head as if to accept her compliments. "But what about the three? Did they realize your intentions as well?"
"So what if they did, and what if they didn't?" Sienna shrugged lightly. She wasn't bothered by it. If the three wanted to betray her, they'd betray her anyway.
Kyrell nodded in agreement.
"Who will fill your sister's position, Miss Lawrence?" Kyrell asked curiously.
Sienna was now the Chairman and CEO of the Lawrence Group, while Simon was the COO. There was another position left to fill. CFO, which was previously held by her sister, Leah.
Sienna tapped her fingers on the table as she thought of a suitable person. "I need to find someone trustworthy for that position. Otherwise, I'll be doomed. I'll think about it later."
Sienna sighed in exhaustion. Closing her eyes for a moment, she pressed her forehead lightly, trying to ease her headache.
"Do you want some coffee?"
"Yes, please. Thank you."
Kyrell smiled as he prepared a cup of coffee for them both.
Sienna couldn't take a break for even a moment. After having her coffee, she got to work instantly. There were urgent matters that needed her attention, and after not having been to the company for a few days, she couldn't afford to waste her time.
Kyrell observed her for a moment before looking towards the door.
"Miss Lawrence, I'm going to take a look around the company," Kyrell stated, and Sienna nodded, not moving her eyes away from her laptop.
"Please call me if there is anything."
They had already exchanged numbers. And nobody would dare to attack Sienna in her office. So, Kyrell relaxed his ground as he stepped out to examine the company.
Kyrell was impressed. According to the tabloids, the Lawrence Group was one of the best companies in the country to work for, and he could see why.
Not only were the employee benefits great, but the company also invested in resources to groom them well and provide them with amenities to make work less stressful. Who wouldn't want to work for them?
Kyrell walked by the secretary's desks, who seemed oblivious to his presence as they continued to chat among themselves.
"Will Sienna give up on her position?" one of the women asked.
"I don't think so. Why would she?" another answered.
"But it'll be difficult for her to appease the shareholders," another reasoned.
"She's capable. She'll handle them."
"I am not sure. I have an inkling that something's not right."
"I am worried."
"I am too."
Kyrell shook his head before he walked away from them. It was almost an hour later when he returned to Sienna's office, and she seemed not to have budged from her chair even once.
"Did you take a good look, Mr. Winchester?" Sienna questioned as she signed a file before finally taking a break, a first after she met with the three people.
"I did."
"Found anything interesting?"
"Oh, I did. I found a lot of interesting things, and you may be interested in them as well," Kyrell said mysteriously.
"Care to shed some light?"
"You may want to be cautious. The shareholders will give you hell."
"And you found that from my employees?" Sienna quirked a brow in amusement.
"Yes. Some of your employees, who have been bought by them, are tampering with the company documents."
"I see. Nothing I hadn't expected. Thank you for the heads-up."
"Aren't you worried?"
Kyrell was surprised by her nonchalant look. She looked too calm for the predicament she was in.
"I would be if everything were peaceful. I had anticipated this."
"Will everything be alright?"
Kyrell was worried for her. Sienna was barely thirty, and she had to shoulder a lot of responsibilities. It surely was concerning.
"Oh, don't worry. I wouldn't be this calm if I weren't prepared. I knew this day would come. I have been preparing."
Kyrell didn't say anything and took a seat on the couch. Nobody spoke a word until it was almost time for them to meet Director Jason Cowell.
Esme reminded once the man had arrived, and Sienna and Kyrell arrived at the meeting room where Edward was entertaining the man.
"Director Cowell, it's a pleasure to meet you," Sienna greeted the man, and the man greeted back with equal enthusiasm.
Sienna wasn't surprised to see him alone. Jason was a shrewd man who preferred to handle important matters himself, a trait that was both praiseworthy and stressful.
"Would you like to something? Coffee or tea perhaps?" she offered.
"No, thank you, Miss Lawrence," the man who seemed to be in his late fifties said with a soft smile.
"This is the contract I prepared. Please take a look."
Sienna glanced at Edward, and he handed the man the contract they had prepared a day ago.
Jason went through it calmly. However, his expression cracked when he reached the last page, and his eyes snapped towards Sienna, who was waiting for the man to finish reading.
"Do you want me to be the advisor?" he asked, his eyes widening in surprise.
"Yes, Mr. Cowell. I have heard a thing or two about you. You have a knack for investing in good projects. Although I don't know why you decided to sell your production house, it'd be great if someone like you could be our advisor."
Jason looked at her silently for a minute or two, too astonished to speak properly. "Well, I guess there's no harm in revealing the truth to you, Miss Lawrence."
Jason sighed and lowered his head, dropping the file on the table.
"I started the production house with my friend. We were partners until a few years ago, with me holding the most shares. But he betrayed me and joined another production house, much bigger and stronger than mine, and together, they are attacking me."
"So, you are looking for someone to shelter you," Sienna deadpanned.
Jason hesitated before nodding. Although her words sounded harsh, they were the truth. He neither had the capacity nor the ability to oppose the company his 'partner' had joined.
"In short, you are selling your shares in your production house to me. Am I right?"
Jason nodded again.
"What if I made another offer?" Sienna started, holding Jason's curious gaze. "What if the Lawrence Group invested in your production house while you became the advisor?"
"What's the catch?"
Sienna smirked, her eyes twinkling cunningly. "What percent of shares do you hold?"
"Twenty-seven," Jason replied instantly.
"I need ten."
