Chapter 21: Call with the superstar - Part 1
Not just Jason, the other three in the room were also stunned by Sienna's offer. They looked at her in confusion, wondering why she declined the man's offer to sell all his shares to her and only take ten percent.
Sienna felt everyone's puzzled gazes on her, and she smiled faintly. "You must be wondering why I am asking just ten percent. Am I right?"
Kyrell wanted to nod as well. But he remained stiff, not showing his confusion to anyone.
"Mr. Cowell, you've worked hard to establish your production house, and I don't have the heart to snatch it from you completely. Moreover, I need to you work for me. Consider the shares as employee benefits."
Although Sienna didn't say it explicitly, Jason understood what she was trying to convey and smiled faintly. His admiration for her grew, and he now looked forward to the future.
Sienna was truly a clever businesswoman. She bought his loyalty in exchange for the shares. If their collaboration worked, they would enjoy the profits together. But if, for some reason, they failed, she wouldn't be the sore loser.
Her business acumen was impeccable, and he wondered if her siblings were as shrewd.
'If only they had been alive,' he thought regretfully.
"I accept, Miss Lawrence," he said, agreeing to her offer instantly. He had nothing to lose. Instead, under the Lawrence Group and Sienna's management, his production house would only flourish. He believed in her capabilities.
"Great. Esme, please prepare the contract."
Esme was quick, and in no time, both parties had signed the contract.
"Now that we have signed the contract, shall we get to business?" Sienna asked, and Jason frowned, not understanding what she was getting at.
"Miss Lawrence, I don't understand."
"I wish to change the production house name. Do you have any objections?"
Jason didn't have any. She was the investor. Why would he have any objections?
"No, Miss Lawrence."
"Great. How about Cowell & Lawrence?"
Jason smiled once again when he saw what she was doing. She hadn't removed his name from the production house. Instead, she had only modified it.
"I don't mind, Miss Lawrence."
"This is Edward Jones," Sienna introduced the man sitting beside her. "He'll be in charge of everything related to the production house. You may contact him if you need anything."
"Yes, Miss Lawrence."
Sienna glanced at Edward, and the man realized it was his time to take over.
"Mr. Cowell, now that we are partners, we'd like to invest in a movie. Do you have any good scripts in mind?" Edward asked, following the discussion he had had with Sienna the previous day.
"This..." Jason was taken aback. Weren't they rushing into it? "This soon?"
"Sooner the better, Mr. Cowell. We have our reasons," Edward replied, and Jason glanced at Sienna, who was observing him silently.
"Well, I do have a script. It's a fantasy movie."
"What is your analysis?"
"If directed properly and the cast is good, the movie will be a blockbuster for sure."
Sienna wasn't surprised by Jason's confidence. The man had the right to be. He had never failed before. Every movie he had written or produced had been a blockbuster.
"Then, what are we waiting for? Let's begin with the production."
"But..."
Jason couldn't believe how quickly the things were progressing. He had come to Sienna, intending to sell his shares to her. Who knew that he'd be in for more?
"Is something wrong, Mr. Cowell?" Sienna asked when Jason hesitated.
"No, Miss Lawrence. It's just..." Jason shook his head to clear his thoughts. "The script is ready. We just need to finalize the cast."
"Do you have any actors in mind, or will you be holding auditions?"
"Miss Lawrence, I don't have anyone particular for the other characters, but for the male lead, I have someone in mind. I wrote this script keeping him in mind."
"Oh, who might that be?" Sienna quirked her brows in interest.
"Nevian Whitmore."
While Sienna's expression didn't falter, Kyrell's eyes quivered when he heard the familiar name. However, he composed himself before anyone noticed anything amiss with him.
"Cool. Inform him about the movie, and if everything works out, let's start with the production."
Sienna was about to stand but stopped when she saw Jason in a dilemma. The man's brows were drawn together into a deep frown as he stared ahead thoughtfully.
"What's wrong, Mr. Cowell?"
"Miss Lawrence, I won't hide this from you. But Nevian Whitmore isn't easy to invite."
"What do you mean?" Sienna asked with her eyes narrowed.
"Nevian could be quite eccentric at times. I'm not sure if I can invite him to join the movie."
"Not a problem. Forward me his number. I'll give him a call."
Sienna didn't mind Nevian's eccentric behavior. It wasn't odd to find celebrities throwing their weight around. They just needed someone to hold them in check.
Jason forwarded Nevian's number instantly, and Sienna didn't dawdle and called the number in front of everyone. However, the call went unreceived until it went to voice mail.
"Looks like he's held up with something. Mr. Cowell, I'll handle this matter. You start preparing everything else."
Sienna stood up, and everyone else followed suit. While she returned to her office with Kyrell in tow, Edward remained behind to discuss more with Jason.
Sienna plopped down on her chair and sighed deeply. Her lips arched up in gratitude when she saw Kyrell holding a bottle of water for her take.
"Tired?" He looked at her gently.
"Almost. Thankfully, the negotiation went well." Sienna didn't realize that she had subconsciously lowered her guard before Kyrell.
"Yeah. You have a big battle in two hours. I hope you're ready for it."
Sienna groaned when she thought of the shareholders. They wouldn't be easy at all.
Sienna shook her head and patted her cheeks to keep herself calm. She was just about to return to work when Kyrell stopped her.
"It's lunchtime. What do you want to eat?" Kyrell spoke to her with familiarity, dropping all honorifics.
"Oh, I didn't realize it's almost time for lunch."
Surprisingly, she felt hungry as soon as Kyrell reminded her.
"Do you want to go to the company canteen?"
"No. I can't waste time. I still have work to finish before the shareholders' meeting, and I'm in the mood for some chicken noodle soup. Will you order one serving for me, please?"
Kyrell had already opened the delivery app and was waiting for her.
"Sure."
Barely had he finished ordering lunch for both of them when Sienna's phone rang.
Sienna smiled when she saw who was calling her. "It's Nevian Whitmore."
While Sienna attended the call, Kyrell sent a quick message, hiding his smile behind his poker face.
