Chapter 1474: First Batch of Rescue (Part 1)
The man wasn't strikingly handsome, but he was dashing and charming.
At the very least, it made Gina's heart beat harder.
However, she knew she was ugly at this time—dirty, grimy, and sick and full of puss—and she immediately looked down, afraid to be seen.
"A Terran?" Ersat, who was walking, but made sure he was near his niece, walked over. "Where did he come from?"
"Did we stop?" someone asked. They were under so much stress and were so squeezed that they didn't notice when the carriage stopped.
"Of course it stopped, I was driving," the man said.
"EH?"
This meant they'd be sitting gugu broats here while the mobs were ongoing?! Normally, beast carts wouldn't stop in the middle of mobs because it was too chaotic, and the beast pulling them could go wild, making things worse for everyone.
"Well, if we deal with the mobs fast enough, then it shouldn't be a problem," Sammy said as his eyes scanned everyone in that part of the cart. Similarly, the people from other carts were also listening or watching.
"You are all elementalists, too, yes?" he smiled. "Why don't you help us?"
He was referring to those inside the carriages, as well as the couple of people hiding near it.
It was not an order, but a question, and everyone felt complicated because of it. To be honest, after so many months as a slave, they weren't used to making decisions on their own anymore.
However, things were better than just sitting there with everyone's pus-filled bodies! Anyway, most had been afraid of monsters to the point of freezing, but in the past few months, they had been trained hard as slaves. Granted, they didn't show as much potential as the others, like Gurnam back then, but they still did survive.
Those months of suffering, they couldn't be for nothing!
The people in the carts soon flowed out. Since they were 'raised' to be vanguards in a town war, they all had some basic weapons in their spaces. They were mostly wood—with low durability by now—but at least they wouldn't be going through this barehanded.
Sammy nodded and raised his bow and arrow. A moment later, a few shots —that added wind effect on top of actually killing monsters—sliced the air.
In each shot, there was at least one or two Town-level monsters taken down!
"Whoa…"
"What level is he?"
Anyway, seeing Sammy's prowess increased their side's momentum by a lot.
Whoosh!
On another side of their large group, sharp projectiles also flew by; this time, they created a few splashes.
Other than Sammy, there was also Minko, the water archer, helping out with this mission.
He was nestled on a tree branch, aiding take down the particularly difficult monsters.
At the same time, he used his vantage point to look at the 'slaves', hoping to see people he recognized. He sighed in disappointment when he saw that there was not.
He actually volunteered on this mission. By looking at the patterns, the people from Calma Village would eventually end up sold in Voumi Town. He hoped to see them as soon as possible.
Although they really had no choice but to leave with their families, the guilt of leaving so many people behind still nagged at them. Orz and the others would've come here too if they weren't sent to other missions.
In any case, the 'slaves' attacked the monsters in groups, making up for their weaknesses with their numbers. Although their weapons were almost broken (destroyed after a few shots), their elements made up for it.
After all, elemental attacks had extra penetration effects. Being showered by elements would definitely damage, if not kill, a monster of the same level.
They were not that coordinated, but the basics and foundation were there. For example, the reflexes were not too bad, the strength and speed was there, and so on…
For example, the middle-aged Ersat threw a water whip at a monster. It wasn't big, but fortunately, the monster wasn't too strong that it was affected. This gave the other slaves near him clear chances to summon their elements to attack the monsters.
A few rescuers also handed around wooden and bone weapons for free, especially to those who were rapidly losing mana. This saved them a lot of time and effort. Later, they'd even get to keep their weapons!
In fact, it wasn't that the mercenaries and the Alterran helpers couldn't handle this mob on their own. However, their group was too large and there were bound to be leaks and therefore casualties on the side of the slaves.
How regretful would it be for people to die just because they didn't bother defending themselves?
Anyway, like this, the mobs were handled well, and no slave died that day.
They also saw the potential of many people. They didn't expect that much because they heard many of them were 'rejects' in Voumi due to their low levels and potential, but it seemed like it wasn't entirely the case.
In any case, the 'slaves' were obviously trained hard to become good forces in wars.
And now, they'd add to Alterra's.
…
The party did not move despite clearing the mob, which puzzled people at first until they saw Sammy and the others were clearing the area, asking the other 'slaves' to help out as well.
"Don't you think it's a waste to leave food behind?"
The slaves flinched, and Sammy grinned.
"You can keep what you can take."
A couple of minutes later, the monsters' meat was taken out, though for stronger monsters, the mercenaries had to help open up the carcasses.
Some also went to Sammy to confirm whether or not they could really keep it, and they were relieved when he nodded, immediately running to help out with resource-gathering.
The slaves were surprised but naturally didn't reject the offer. Although they didn't know when they'd cook, it was good to have materials in their space!
A lot of pessimistic ones thought that the new masters were just borrowing their spaces because theirs was full, though.
After all, none of their new 'masters' took anything to their own spaces! They killed most of the monsters, who would be fine leaving all the loot to others?
