Almighty Father System

Chapter 216: Speed King. (1)

Leo and Lily returned to the hotel with Snow after they finished eating and the little girl told her mother about the go-kart they have bought. Which did cause Snow to raise a brow but she knew that Leo would not stop regardless of what she said and he was more worried about Lily's safety than her, so she put it to a rest.

As they slept, Leo spent his time inside the virtual realm, and this time he was going through a full race simulation. This was not a cheat, he was only doing it for a night while the professional races must have been burning hours in the simulators their companies provide to master the cars and get the best out of them while running on the track.

The only edge that Leo had was to practice with the shadows of the real racers, and the data projection of the virtual realm was higher and way accurate than the computers they had. Well, this was Leo's strength.

The young man woke up fresh and then he dressed up casually, as he spotted Snow waking up as he came out of the powder room. Lily had slept between them so she was also alerted. Leo walked over and kissed the two on their foreheads and he said, "Well, I need to go out early, I intend to catch the meal with the team. Kevin would come to pick you both up two hours before the race begins, okay?"

Snow nodded and kissed his left cheek as she said, "Be careful."

Leo nodded with a smile and Lily kissed his right cheek as she said, "May the goddess of victory smiles upon you."

Leo chuckled and bowed his head as he said, "Thank you for your prayers my little angel."

Then he left the hotel and took a car from the hotel and headed to the track.

...

Leo came to the track, and found Carlos waiting for him. The latter rushed up and said, "Sir, you didn't have to show up so early."

Leo waved his hand and said, "The technicians are doing their best all this time, it is only right that I give them the due respect. I am not the owner of this team, I am a part of it, Mister Frederique."

Carlos was stunned and impressed as he nodded and said, "Please, sir, this way."

As they headed towards the paddock, Leo told him about sending Kevin to pick up Snow, Lily, and Zeenat. Half of his security team has also come over but they had their own car and would only need access passes which Carlos had arranged for beforehand.

They came to the paddock, and Leo greeted all the mechanics and the technicians who were going through the car and checking it for any error or malfunctioning part. Leo stood by the side learning from them and watching how they handled things. After a couple of hours, the breakfast was served and he ate with the others, just a couple of chicken sandwiches and protein shake.

When he was done with the meal, he walked up to the car and sat down in the cockpit without his suit. He looked at Okun and asked, "Can I get the steering? I want to get a better feel of it today."

Okun nodded and the steering was mounted inside the car, but the vehicle was not powered on. Leo closed his eyes and then he began to do mock runs in his mind with his eyes closed. The Paddock was silent at this moment, only clicks from the gear shifting paddles behind the steering were heard.

After another hour, Leo got out of the car, and went to the back room to change his clothes. When he came out, he spotted that a few media people were interviewing the technicians, and when they saw him they hesitated but Leo sighed and waved to them.

There were half a dozen people who came over, and they asked him questions like what he felt driving one of the fastest machines on the ground, and did he have trouble in the rain? What was his game plan for the day, and would he be able to assure that he and the other drivers don't suffer because of him.

Finally, they asked, whom did Leo consider to be his biggest rival. To which, Leo replied, "My daughter hopes that I will win this race, I have been a fan of 1F racing and the drivers. I don't have rivals but competitors who would be doing their best to get the best result, similar to what I intend to do."

That was diplomatic of him but it was good, they got a reaction and he got to tell the world that he was only participating to do his best and had no qualms with the others. The reporters wanted to get something spicy out of it, and Leo gazed at Carlos Frederique, who took the que and moved quickly to warn the reporters off the record, that if they altered too much of the footage and the words spoken just now, they would be waiting for a defamation case and legal notice against them.

The reporters were not stupid, the fall of the prestige group was not an overnight thing, it was Leo who had done it and so they were scared of him.

...

The cars were driven out of the paddock and then the drivers arrived one after the other. They were all wearing their race suits, and helmets. Leo had met with Lily and Snow for a little before it was time for the race to begin, they were held back because of the go-kart delivery.

The young man walked towards his car and many drivers cast him a gaze. They all knew that it was a charity event, and Wagoner team was between transitions. They had just qualified to race, but their driver had gotten into a crash, so they proposed to let a new driver go in, but this was only for a publicity gimmick, they didn't know that the driver would end up on the top ten starters.

Leo didn't care about the gazes he just went their and got in his car followed by which, the steering was mounted and the halo was fixed. Leo went through the radio check and gave a good to go signal to the technician who then told him a few things before the car was started and they all cleared the track.

Okun's voice sounded, "Leo, the first lap is a warm up lap, and overtaking is prohibited."

Leo replied, "Roger that."

The cars started, and following the five lights going off, they all moved at a slow speed first and then formed up a queue to run across the track. Leo was careful, he did a few zigzags on the straights and rushed the brakes cautiously to get them all up to the optimal temperature.

After a couple of minutes they were all back at the starting line and this time the race was on. The safety car dashed ahead of them, while Leo heard Okun, "It's go time. Do your best."

Leo replied, "Yep."

He watched the lights blink, and as soon as the red lights went off, he pressed the pedal and the car launched. Within a blink he chased the fourth position car in front of him and made a break to the right while shifting in the higher gear.

The crowd went bonkers, the race had just started and Leo already climbed two positions in the grid, he was now P4.

The commentators replied, "A perfect launch and an aggressive move by Leo Cardinal driving silver Wagoner car."

The other commentator said, "Yes, Doyle, I didn't expect this machine from the last year would still have this much power."

Usually cars from the past years were not allowed to be used, but this was a charity event, and since the people didn't think that anyone would try like it was a real race, they allowed this car.

Leo caught everyone by surprise, on the starting stretch he made not one but two moves, and as the third position driver tried to block him on the outside, Leo pressed the brake, made a turn on the inside and pressed the throttle to its limits on the fourth gear and then shifted to the fifth perfectly. Within a few seconds, Leo Cardinal was not P3.

His moves were confident and his control was perfect. He was following position number two like a shadow and while doing this, he made sure that none of the people behind him managed to sneak up on him. After all, drivers all had their prides, and given that he passed two of them on the start, it was going to be a tough fight, unless he could get out in the front and take a huge lead.

Leo was not too impatient, he drove, the entire lap he didn't make a move but his close distance driving was putting a lot of psychological pressure on the driver ahead of him, and then after the first lap, Leo still didn't make a move until they were coming upon the first chicane.

Leo took the outside and this time, thinking that he would try to fake the overtake from there, the rival driver didn't commit to the block completely, and that gave Leo the chance to push through at a high speed, and as they were exiting the chicane, Leo delayed braking which blocked the inside for the rival momentarily and then Leo came back in to block it with his left and since the track was narrow, position two was forced to brake and Leo dashed off after the first position.

The crowds was going nuts, and so were the commentators were going bonkers calling his moves to be masterpieces. The speed king was out on a conquest and he won't stop until the track is under his command.
