Chapter 12: chapter 12- Penalty For The Breach
DAMON~
As Julian introduced himself Carlos got a message that needed his attention and had to leave the meeting so I called in Daniel to fill in for him and provide me with his counsel on whatever problem it was that Julian came to talk to me about. Daniel stood by my side skeptical of the man that stood before him but he didn't voice his opinion as they were not yet needed and instead just listened to what Julian had to say.
"Fuck" I cursed the words I had just heard, tugging at the strands of my hair from frustration.
"You're sure the end of the tunnel was in Howlcreek," Daniel asked Julian his tone void of belief.
"I would say it if I wasn't," Julian said, clearly offended by Daniels's tone.
"Who knows, you are low-rank scum, your kind would do anything to rise" Daniel spat, Julian's face twisted in anger before he replied.
"My loyalty and respect belong to the Alpha, not a wanna-be whisperer", Daniel's jaw tightened, he stepped forward to act but stopped when he caught a glimpse of the look on my face.
"Enough both of you, you're not children and we are dealing with an actual problem here," I said angrily, they both looked at each other before looking at me.
"Apologies Advisor," Julian said but Daniel remained quiet, his silence made a slight chuckle escape Julian and a victorious smile quickly crossed his lips, Daniel clenched his fist as he understood the unspoken taunt.
"What are we gonna do about Silver Hollow" Julian asked.
"Nothing" Daniel answered his voice remaining disrespectful.
"What do you mean nothing, they are creating tunnels that lead into our territory" Julian growled
"Daniel is right," I said and he immediately calmed himself "We can't do anything about this."
"I don't understand."
"Of course, you don't, from what you tell us you have no definite proof that it was Silver Hollow who created those tunnels" Daniel explained.
"Who else would it be" Julian shouted angrily but quickly composed when I looked at him "Apologies my Alpha, but they are the only ones who would do something like this."
"Yes we know they are responsible for it but with no proof all we have are accusations and we can't act based on accusations" I explained, the moment he heard my words the look on his face changed to one of frustration.
"So we just sit and wait for them to kill us in our sleep," Julian said with a voice filled with melancholy.
"Not exactly" Daniel spoke, I looked at him as he stood still, his eyes focused on the wall, he only ever did this when he was in the middle of creating an idea and once he took them off the idea would be complete, I waited patiently and watched as a small smile curved the sides of his lips then he began to talk.
"We can set up a meeting with their Alpha"
"What?" Me and Julian said.
"Yes, Even if we don't have proof that they were directly involved in creating the tunnel it is still coming from their side of the border which means that we can treat it like a breach of trust and not only close the tunnel but also enforce a penalty for the breach" Daniel explained, a smile curved my lips.
"Play this to our advantage," I said "But what penalty would we enforce."
"Already thought of that. We would be able to put more men at the border, which means more men on guard ensuring nothing like this happens again."
"Perfect," I said with a grin, and even Julian who didn't seem to like Daniel had to admit he had a brilliant mind, he might not have had a strong wolf but his mind couldn't be replaced.
"I'll have Carlos set up the meeting," I said then turned to Julian "Go back to your post and when this is done more men will be sent to be under your command," I said giving Julian permission to leave, he nodded and proceeded to go back to where he had come from leaving me and Daniel alone in the office, I could feel his unease even though he stood behind me.
"Are you going to speak?" I asked, he stopped and walked to my front.
"You're just going to abandon her," He said, a saddened look in her eye
"Who?" I asked unsure of who it was he was talking about.
"Lorelei, she's still your Luna Damon" He answered worry filling every word that left his mouth.
"How long have we been friends?" I asked.
"Why does that matter?"
"Just answer me Daniel" I assured.
"Since we were 10, so 14 years" He answered hesitantly.
"Good, for those fourteen years have I ever given up on something when there was still a chance" I asked, he opened his mouth but stopped, he thought for a while but in the end couldn't come up with an answer.
"I haven't."
"Even though she cheated I would have forgiven her, I wouldn't have given up on her if she hadn't left Me and our son but she did so I'm gonna focus on more important things," I said then looked him in the eyes "As a friend I thank you for remaining at my side. But as your alpha, this is the last I wanna hear of Lorelei.", Daniel nodded then took a sharp breath.
"Ok my Alpha, I will now take my leave." He said blandly and walked out of the office. Now alone in the air-conditioned room I leaned back in my chair and let out a frustrated breath, it had been at the back of my mind since but my conversation with Daniel just brought it all back up.
"Why did you leave" I asked as I stared at the picture of what was once my happy family, I sat back up and picked up the picture, I looked at it for a while then shifted my hand and let it fall into the trash can beside my desk. I opened up the first drawer on the desk and took out a file, I stared at it and a smile crossed my lips.
"Elliott Torrence," I said under my breath as the smile on my face grew.
