Alpha Damon’s Greatest Regret

Chapter 13: chapter 13- If Only

ZARAH~

I brushed a lock of his hair from his face, his gentle breath the only sound in the quiet room, he was so perfect I thought to myself, I leaned down and gently pressed my lips against his forehead then put down the book of bedtime stories and walked out of the room to let him sleep in peace.

"Good night my treasure," I said as I shut his door and walked back to the living room, I sat down on the couch and turned on my phone to check the emails I had missed, and God where they were a lot. After the incident I had gone off the grid, taking personal days, telling the school Elliott wasn't feeling well, and avoiding calls and texts from my coworkers till I eventually shut down my phone, for a whole week my car GPS had known only the grocery store and I wasn't planning on changing it, I had no friends that would worry about me and no family that cared, Elliot was all I had, he was all I needed and I would die before I let anything harm him.

I put down my phone and headed to the kitchen to make some coffee when I heard a knock at my door, all the hairs on my body raised and Nala began howling, my eyes glowed as I entered high alert, whatever treat was at the other side of the door would regret it I thought as I slowly and cautiously walked to the door making sure my steps were quiet as I approached, I looked through the peephole and as I saw the one who stood at the other side standing with his back to the door but I recognized them either way, my mind settled and Nala relaxed, the glow faded from my eyes as I pulled the handle of the door and opened it up.

"Hey" I greeted with a smile and he snapped his head away from whatever it was he was looking at and turned to me.

"Hey Dina" Michael greeted, his kind smile still something that made me feel warm inside "Can I come in?" He asked.

"Sure," I said with a smile that matched his, I was surprised to see my boss standing at the door but I didn't mind his presence, I had always found it comforting and stable. I stepped away from the doorway allowing him entrance into my home then shut the door.

"So what's up" I asked, he seemed surprised by my question.

"What's up?" He repeated as if offended by what I had said "You just went ghost" he said his deep blue eyes seemed hurt but I couldn't understand why.

"I took my personal days Micheal" I answered.

"So?"

"So I'm free from everything work-related," I said defensively.

"You could have at least picked up some of my calls" He replied, hurt lacing the words he spoke.

"Micheal, I needed the time to focus on my son" I explained, trying to make him realize my leaving didn't have anything to do with him, he nodded and took a step back.

"I know you only have space in your life for Elliot then work but I'll be honest I wanna have a tiny cramped space in that life," Micheal said, his voice soft and comforting and his words filled with honesty and care, I finally realized what made me find his presence comforting, he was the complete opposite of Damon, maybe not in height and body shape, in that regard they were both similar. A little bit over six foot and both looked like they worked out regularly, But the way they treated me was so different, Damon treated me like dirt on the floor while Micheal had always treated me like a queen from the first day he met me, even on his bad days he had never spoken down to me, he had always been good, Comparing them in looks, although Damon was better looking it wasn't by a lot, deep brown hair without a strand out of place, deep blue eyes that reminded me of the ocean, a kind smile, perfect cheekbones that made him look like he was always posing for a picture and a strong jaw, he reminded me of superman, from the way he acted to the way he looked.

"You're my boss" I finally answered, realizing I had been silent and entrapped in my thoughts.

"So that doesn't matter to me."

"It matters to me," I said, I loved my life right now, it was stable, with a paying job, a house, and a perfect son, throwing Micheal into it would disrupt the balance I had worked so hard to create, he stepped back and let out an audible groan before he looked back at me.

"Why?"

"My life is stable right now Micheal, I can't afford to throw uncertainty into that" I answered softly.

"Hmm," he said pondering something, I could tell by the way he squinted his eyes and twisted his mouth.

"Ok then," he said and stepped back "I won't push it, but that is just for today, I'm gonna show you that I'm not an uncertain Dina," He said and I felt my heart beat with want, I hated that he didn't know my real name, I wanted to know how it sounded when he said it, Nala may have seen Nox as her mate but I would never for a second consider Damon but Micheal was a different story if only I didn't work for him maybe I would have given it a chance and plus I didn't wanna add him to Elliot's life just for him to leave when the relationship eventually fails.

"Thank you," I said, appreciating the fact that he didn't want to force things, he smiled but I could tell it was just him being polite, he wasn't happy.

"Well, it's late so I better get home," Micheal said as he turned around and began to walk back to the door, I followed him and watched as he opened the door and stepped out but paused and turned back to look at me.

"I need you back at the office Dina so don't take too long," he said, I smiled.

"I won't" I assured them as I waved him goodbye and gently closed the door, I walked to my window and looked through the curtains, making sure he wouldn't see me I watched him as he stood still with a childish smile on his face then he looked at my door walked forward then stopped shook his head and began walking to his car that was parked across the street, my smile grew just from watching him, if only I thought as I stepped away from my window and went into my room.
