Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Beautiful Music
"You must be crazy. Even Kings couldn't convince Isabella to grace their courts as a singer. Let alone some band of ruffians like you." The manager said.
"Please Miss Dorothea, that's not necessary. Though I am curious as to why you would want me to join your crew." Isabella said.
"Well it's pretty simple, you're the best singer I've ever heard, and absolutely nobody else will do." I replied.
"That is quite flattering, but I couldn't possibly be of any help to you on your ship. My only talent is singing."
"So? I don't care. That's all I need from you anyway." I said.
"Be that as it may. I'm still afraid I can't join you. I'm already committed to my tour, I can't just leave it. I am very sorry, I hope you can understand." Isabella said as she bowed her head courteously and was about to leave.
"Well just wait a minute, me and my crew will be here until tomorrow afternoon. If you change your mind please contact me. Just do you know, I'll be willing to pay any price for you to join my crew."
As we parted ways Isabella spoke to her manager after I had left. "You made right decision, you have no business being involved with pirates." Her manager said.
"Yes, of course." Isabella said absentmindedly. Isabella had been known for her vocal talents since she was just a small child. Her parents had died when she was very young. Since her parents' death she had been passed from guardian to guardian, each one with desires of using her talents for their own personal gain. Ironically, though she had traveled around the world to perform, she had never truly experienced any of the places she had been. She was merely shuttled from one performance to another.
Miss Dorothea had been a friend of her mother's for many years before her death, she had become her tour manager in an effort to watch over her as was her mother's wishes. Though she was hard on her, she was one of the only people in Isabella's life that truly cared for her.
"I really wouldn't have minded going out to sea with them. I would do anything to go out and see the world. Even if it was through a pirate crew. Maybe it's silly for me to even think about that." Isabella thought to herself as she twirled one of the roses I gave her.
That night as everyone was asleep, someone snuck into her lodging and snatched her out of her bed and took her away. That morning when she was discovered missing, her manager went straight to me as I was her number one suspect.
"You monster! How dare you take Isabella away! She rejected you so you took her by force! Give her back this instant!" she said as she gripped my shirt.
"Um, what are you talking about?" I asked perplexed.
"Isabella was kidnapped last night!"
"What?"
Meanwhile in an abandoned building in town, Isabella had just woken up to find herself tied to a chair.
"W-Where am I? What's going on? Is anybody there?" She shouted in a panic.
"Sorry to have to do this but after the Navy sent a Warlord after me I was forced to take desperate measures. I'll need to use you as a bargaining chip." Moore Dor said. He was the doctor which the other's had mentioned the previous day.
"What? What are you talking about?"
"I've been making people sick with my Sick-Sick Fruit power and then using it to cure them to make people think that I'm some sort of genius doctor!" The paranoid doctor said, confessing to crimes nobody even suspected he was committing. "I mean it's not that bad, why would they send the "Beast Sword" after me? Sure I made all those people sick, but I cured them after so no real harm was done. I mean sure I had to kill a couple people to keep my secret but still that's not so bad I deserve to get hunted down by a Warlord is it?" He asked as his paranoia made him spiral out of control.
"But why did you have to take me?" She asked while she was struggling to try and free herself.
"Because you're a worldwide celebrity! I had to use someone important enough to use as a bargaining chip. If it was just some average Joe they might not care!" He said unbeknownst to him, if he didn't take a hostage nobody would have caught on to him, at least not for a while. "I'm going to send my terms to the Navy, as long as they let me go free I'll let you go too. So just sit still. And don't bother screaming. Nobody will hear you no matter how loud you are." He said as he walked out of the room.
Despite what Dor said, Isabella still shouted for help at the top of her lungs. Though he seemed to be telling the truth about nobody being able to hear her.
"It seems like nobody is going to come to save me, it feels so hopeless. I don't know what to do." She thought as tears formed in her eyes. "The only thing I know how to do is sing. Maybe that'll help me calm down if nothing else." She then began to sing a soft beautiful melody.
Meanwhile, we had all spread out in an effort to search for Isabella after I had been filled in on the situation by her manager.
"So you aren't the one who took her?" Her manager asked.
"No! I'd never kidnap someone, especially not a lady! I might be a pirate, but I'm not a bad guy. Or at least I try not to be." I said while rushing off in a hurry. "Wait! What was that?"
"I don't hear anything." She said.
"Everybody shut up! I hear the faint sound of a beautiful noise. There's no mistaking it. That's the sound of her voice, I'd recognize it anywhere!" I said leaving the rest of them in the dust while they all commented on how they couldn't hear anything.
"Oh, you really are a brilliant singer. It's a shame I have to do this to you. Now come here, I need to take a photo so they know I have a hostage." Dor said as he said that the wall came crashing down.
"Ah! There you are! Thank goodness I found you!" I said as I moved to untie Isabella.
"You came to rescue me?" She asked.
"Yeah of course, it'd be a shame to never get to hear your voice again." I said as I extended my hand to her to help her up.
"Now you just wait-" Dor tried to say before I interrupted.
"You did this." I aid with the veins in my forehead bulging. "Ironbreaker!!!!" I then smashed him into the dirt with a punch. After Isabella was safely recovered the others would arrive and Jack interrogated Dor into confessing his crimes to us. Which was pretty easy considering he had assumed that we already knew.
"So he used the Sick-Sick Fruit? If that's the case I know this guy will die eventually because Blackbeard's crew eventually get their hands on it." I thought to myself.
"So Captain what do you think we should do about this guy?" Jack asked.
"It doesn't matter what we do. This guy is fated to die. I see the shadow of death on this guy." I said.
"What are you a fortune teller or something now?" Yuma asked.
"Not exactly." I wasn't sure how to respond,it wouldn't be easy to explain that I know because I've seen the show. Maybe it'd be best if I just made them believe that I have some sort of keen intuition. "We can let him go, like I said he's going to die anyway."
"Are you sure, won't he just keep doing the same thing?" Yuma asked.
"No because I told him I'll throw him in Impel Down if I ever hear that he's back to his old ways. And that's a fate worse than death, some would say. Though if I ever cross paths with you again I will burry you. Do you understand?" He then nodded his head in agreement. "Good just one more thing." I then proceeded to punch him into the ground again.
"The first one was for kidnapping a beautiful singer, the second one was for making my friend cry." I said as I left him in the crater I made.
"Thank you so much for saving me. I could never repay your kindness, but I'm afraid I still can't accept your offer." Isabella said to me.
"I see that's too bad but at least you're safe." I said as I was disappointedly about to leave empty handed.
"Just wait there a minute." Isabella's manager said to me. As she walked up to me I couldn't understand what she could possibly want with me? She then explained to me that when Isabella had turned 18 her guardian lost his power over her, therefore he made her sign a contract that kept her in his employment. Therefore Isabella didn't have the freedom to leave as she wished.
"So, while she can't just leave her contract, it would be a totally different issue if she was kidnapped." Her manager said to me, suggesting that I pretend that I kidnapped her so she could get out of her contact and explore the sea like she had never been able to.
"No can do. I refuse." I said plainly.
"What? But you said you wanted her? You won't actually have to kidnap her. You just have to pretend to."
"Yeah that parts all well and good, but need to hear it from her. I need to hear her say that she wants to go with us." I said. "If she doesn't have the guts to tell me that she wants to travel with my crew then she doesn't belong on my crew."
"P-please take me with you!" Isabella mustered the courage to say.
"It'd be my pleasure. Welcome to the crew!" I said as I threw her over my shoulder with a smile.
