Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

"It's fine." Bai Meiyue had nothing against eel noodles. Her morning sickness was gone, and as long as the seafood was thoroughly cooked, there was nothing to worry about. What was more, she could see that her mother was working hard after arriving at the mansion. There were a lot of things lacking, as they never got to set the mansion up; even the electric stove and oven that ran from the generator were not set up, which meant that her mother was cooking on the small induction one.

She needed to get her brothers to get that fixed. Bai Meiyue wished she could have done it on her own, but with her pregnancy advancing, she was afraid that there was little that she could do about it in such a situation, and truly, it was quite a hassle as she had to depend on others.

She glanced at the stove plus oven that were sitting in the corner and said to her mother, "I will ask Brother Zhan to arrange it for you, Mom."

"It's fine. Let those boys do their thing; it's bad enough that I cannot help them; I will deal with it." Though she said that, Mother Bai looked worried.

"Don't think too much, Mom. Who says that you cannot help us? Don't forget that you are already helping us by providing us with warm meals, clean clothes and taking care of our family. It's really comforting to have a warm home at times like these, Mother," said Bai Meiyue.

Bai Meiyue was not saying these words just because she wanted to please her mother or comfort her; she was speaking the truth. While hunting for supplies was difficult, making sure that her children would return to a warm and safe home was even more difficult. Bai Meiyue had lived with Bai Qingshi in her past life, and she knew how difficult it was to survive when one was not welcomed at their own home.

Bai Qingshi was someone who had little power, but his ambitions were gravely gigantic. Bai Meiyue could never forget, even if she wanted to, how the man had treated her. Every time she returned home after a hunt, Bai Qingshi would ask her about the supplies and after asking her about the supplies, he would ask her how many crystal nuclei she was able to hunt.

And if the crystal nuclei didn't reach the amount that he wanted, Bai Qingshi would start scolding her for being useless and incompetent.

Back then, Bai Meiyue was pregnant and still going out to hunt for supplies for the family, and yet when she returned, instead of giving her the peace that she wanted, Bai Qingshi gave her chaos. Because of his constant yelling and screaming, Bai Meiyue almost miscarried many times. Maybe it was because Little Cai Cai had a strong will to live; that was how he was able to survive all those painful situations.

If not, Bai Meiyue was certain that with how Bai Qingshi had treated her, she would have lost her child long ago.

Mother Bai was quite touched by what Bai Meiyue said to her. The weight on her heart also eased a little. Even though she didn't show it on her face, the truth was that she was indeed a bit nervous and guilty of staying at home while everyone went out and hunted for supplies. It was at moments like these that she felt a bit better.

"Oh, you." Mother Bai blushed red as she waved her hand. "You really know how to say sweet words."

"I am only speaking the truth, Mom," Bai Meiyue spoke with a hint of genuineness in her tone. She hoped that her mother would stop worrying. Even if the woman was not going to hunt for supplies, she was doing all she could.

Bai Meiyue glanced at the wood spirit that was dancing around in the greenhouse, happy that it had finally gotten the space that it always wanted. It even raised its hand and waved its twig-like hand at Bai Meiyue, who sighed in worry. With how her mother was levelling up, it won't take long for her to start seeing the wood spirit. When that happened, Bai Meiyue was worried that her mother would end up in even more trouble.

She glanced at her mother, thinking about whether she should tell her about her powers. No sooner did she have this thought than Jiang Haidai turned to look at her mother and started gossiping, "You know, Madam Bai? That woman, the one who is pregnant with twins? She was found entangled with one of the thugs."

"What, really? I thought that she was involved with the guard who was guarding at the hospital!" Mother Bai gasped as she turned to look at Jiang Haidai. She even stopped folding the laundry and turned all her attention to Jiang Haidai.

Bai Meiyue: "..." forget it. Let's leave this matter for later.

She was worried that with her mother's gossipy nature, she would end up spilling the beans. Let her face more of the cruelty of the world; maybe that way she would stop speaking without thinking.

Bai Meiyue finished eating her noodles and then went out of the house. When arriving at this town, she had seen a water tower. Even though it was not big, it should be enough to supply water to the mansions. Bai Meiyue knew that she couldn't continue filling up the water vats and providing water to each of the mansions.

It was quite a solution when there were only a few of them, but now that their team had grown, she was worried that the previous solution would no longer work. After all, she could not spend hours of her day filling vat after vat. It was better to use her skills and then fill the giant water container in one sweep.
