Chapter 51: The Spider Bride
**Earth-10005, 1984**
**Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters**
Inside Jean's room, Peter and Jean sat side by side on edge of the bed. Lorna Dane, the young woman destined to become Polaris in the future, looked around the room with a curious expression. After her initial introduction, they had brought her here to understand the purpose of her visit.
Though Peter and Jean already had an knew about why she's here, Jean wanted to hear it directly from her.
Lorna finally settled into a chair by the window and gazed outside before remarking, "This is a nice place. I feel like I should stay here."
Jean suddenly felt a wave of anger that wasn't her own. Turning to Peter, she noticed his serious expression.
She placed her hand over his and spoke telepathically, 'Peter, calm down.'
Peter tightened his grip on her hand before replying in her mind, 'Don't worry. It's not about her. Something happened in another universe, but I'll deal with it. For now, let's focus on our guest here.'
Lorna glanced at their clasped hands and her expression turned sly. "Are you two seriously that into each other? You can't even keep your hands off each other while someone else is here? Damn, I need someone to get laid with. Watching couples like this is frustrating."
Peter who is already simmering with anger from Miguel's situation, closed his eyes and took a deep breath to compose himself.
Jean noticed his restraint and quickly intervened, keeping her grip on his hands. She turned to Lorna before saying, "It's not what you think. Now, can you tell us why you're here and what you wanted to talk about?"
Lorna smirked while leaning back in her chair. "Didn't you already know? I thought you telepaths could read minds. Either my source was wrong—which I doubt—or you're not as skilled as people say."
Jean sighed softly, but Peter cut in, "I'm not childish enough to fall for your pathetic provocations, and I'm certainly not in the mood to entertain someone with daddy issues. Why don't you go ask your daddy about me? I'm sure he'll tell you how to behave around people like us."
Jean reached out telepathically, 'Peter, for god's sake, calm down.'
'Relax, Jean,' he replied. 'I'm not about to direct my anger at her. She's just testing us.'
Lorna's smirk widened. "You're really interesting. That's exactly why I'm here."
Leaning forward in her chair she said, "I came to share some intel and to propose a deal."
Peter gently released Jean's hands before leaning forward and his eyes locked onto Lorna's. "I'm listening."
"Humans are planning to restart the Sentinel project. The government is afraid of you... of us. Even though they've accepted us on the surface, not all of them feel the same way. Over the past year, they've made significant progress on the project. In a few years, those Sentinels will be more powerful than ever."
Jean's expression grew serious. She had never personally encountered the Sentinels but had heard of them through stories and had seen videos of the devastating events from the past—events that also catapulted Mystique into prominence among mutants.
Peter however appeared uninterested. He leaned back slightly and said, "So?"
Lorna raised an eyebrow at his dismissive tone but continued, "I've got the location of the project. We can go there, destroy it, and show them who's superior."
Jean looked concerned. She opened her mouth to suggest informing the teachers, but before she could speak, Peter waved his hand. A holographic image appeared beside him, showing the inner workings of the Sentinel project, complete with detailed schematics and how the machines were being constructed.
Another wave of his hand changed the projection, this time displaying a list of everyone involved in the project, along with their current addresses.
Lorna's mouth fell open in shock. Meanwhile, Jean merely shook her head, unsurprised by Peter's foresight.
"I already knew about this, Ms. Dane," Peter said calmly. "I understand the nature of fear and what it can drive humans to do. Fear pushes them to address their problems. Right now, humans fear us, and that fear has led to the creation of these Sentinels. Even if we destroy them, their fear of us will only grow. That will lead to something far worse than this. Trust me, I understand how human minds work."
Lorna struggled to form a response after seeing this. After a moment, she finally said, "But—"
"You wanted to prove you're better than your father, didn't you?" Peter interrupted.
That shut her up immediately. Peter pressed on, "Your father, Erik, did some terrible things in his youth, but now you want to show the world you're not like him—that you're better. That's why you came to us, thinking we'd agree to your plan. You awakened your powers during the chaos your father caused with Apocalypse. It's also the time you lost your poster father... I'm sorry about your loss... because of your newly awakened powers you saved your mother, got to know about your biological father, you started resenting him. Later you ran away from home and been running ever since, You also feared you'll turn like him in the future. That's why you're here, and You think doing this will give you some sense of control, but it won't."
Lorna's expression turned serious. The metal objects in the room began to tremble. Jean glanced nervously at the objects but stayed silent, trusting Peter to handle it.
Peter is unfazed by the shaking metalic objects continued, "Now that you see him working to build a better future for mutants, it drives you insane. You think he's a hypocrite. That's why you did something I don't need to spell out—something we both know about. You learned about the Sentinel project by sheer luck on your way here, and—"
"That's enough!" Lorna snapped and standing abruptly.
The metal objects in the entire school began to shake more violently as her powers surged. In the hallway, students looked around nervously, unsure of what was happening.
Charles is not here as he is busy attending a party with some politicians.
Raven is also out to do some mission with Strom, Scott and Kurt leaving Hank to take care of the school in the meantime.
Now Hank who is seated in his office, noticed the disturbance when his metal desk began to vibrate. He received a telepathic message from Peter about the gist of the situation.
After knowing the situation Hank got up and headed toward Jean's room, where Alex Summers also joined him looking concerned.
Inside the room, Lorna raised her hand to unleash her power, but to her surprise, nothing happened. The shaking stopped abruptly. She froze, staring at Peter in shock.
"You can't use your powers here," Peter said calmly. "I activated a mutant power dampener. It blocks all mutant abilities within a certain range."
He gestured toward a lamp-like device on the dressing table. It emitted a faint red glow. "That's it. It looks ordinary, doesn't it? But it's far from ordinary."
Lorna instinctively tried to move toward it but found her body completely frozen. Sweat began to bead on her forehead as her muscles refused to obey her commands.
Peter's eyes glowed purple as he exerted his power over her.
"Peter, I think that's enough," Jean said softly.
Peter didn't look away from Lorna. "It's better for her to understand how the world works, Jean. If she keeps being reckless, it'll only bring her pain. She needs to understand that this world can eat you alive."
He turned his gaze back to Lorna who was now trembling like a leaf. His glowing purple eyes let her feel like he's looking at her very soul.
After a few moments, he released her from his hold and deactivated the power dampener. She fall on the floor on her kneels and was sweating like crazy.
Suddenly the door was opened as Hank and Alex stepped inside. They took in the scene: Lorna trembling with her head bowed down and Peter standing calmly in the center of the room.
Jean sighed and walked over to Lorna while placing a hand on her shoulder. "Let's get you some fresh air," she said gently.
Lorna stumbled slightly as she stood and her body is still stiff. Jean helped steady her and turned to Peter while narrowing her eyes. 'I'll deal with you later,' she said telepathically.
Peter stepped back, letting them leave. Alex, seeing Lorna so shaken, cast a death glare at Peter before following Jean and Lorna out of the room.
Peter sighed heavily and sat on the bed. "Okay, maybe that was a little much," he muttered.
"A little?" Hank said while pulling up a chair to sit in front of him. "She had the look of someone who had gazed into death's abyss... What did you do to her? And what's her deal anyway?"
"I didn't do much..." Peter paused and sighed again while running a hand through his hair. "Okay, I did something, but only because I was already pissed about another situation, and she just pushed the wrong buttons."
Hank folded his arms, waiting for more. Peter leaned back and began explaining Lorna's situation.

Inside a dimly lit factory, the sound of machinery echoed as a group of scientists worked tirelessly on a massive, weaponized suit of armor. The suit gleamed under the fluorescent lights, its intricate design packed with weaponry and advanced technology.
From the control room above, a man observed the scene through a large glass window. His posture exuded confidence as he watched the progress below.
"Is this going to be enough, Justine?" a serious-looking bald man standing beside him asked, his face hardened with determination.
Justine who is known to be the CEO of Oscrop turned to face him with a smirk. "Of course. This will be revolutionary. I must admit, though, a lot of it is based on Parker Tech with some... enhancements from Oscorp. But this suit—" he gestured toward the hulking armor below, "—this suit will be the end of the Spider couple."
The bald man's eyes narrowed. "I don't care about the girl. But Spider-Man... he's going to pay for what he did to me."
His fists clenched as he recalled the humiliating memory that had haunted him ever since. Swinging upside down, clad only in his underwear, outside the police station—he'd been left there all night, a helpless spectacle for the morning crowd. When the sun rose, photos of him spread like wildfire across social media, mocking him endlessly.
All because he had tried to steal some Parker Tech.
Luckily, Justine had bailed him out a week later and promised to help him get his revenge. That promise had fueled his burning desire to see Spider-Man brought to his knees.
Justine placed a hand on the bald man's shoulder with a reassuring grin on his face. "Don't worry, my friend. This armor is being built with the most advanced tech we've ever developed. It'll be more powerful than anything that Goblin lunatic ever used."
The bald man nodded with his eyes filled with rage and anticipation. "Does it have a name?"
Justine turned back toward the glass and his smile widening as he admired the nearly completed armor. "It has a name. It's called... The Rhino."
A grin spread across the bald man's face as he muttered, "And it will smash the spider to death."

**Inside the Spider's Web**
A swirling portal opened within the Spider's Web, and three figures stepped out of it. Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, both clad in their Spider suits while Madame Web is seated in her iconic wheelchair, followed. Her crimson glasses reflected the light as she glanced around with a smile.
"This is a nice place you've got here, Mr. Parker," Madame Web said in a calm tone.
Peter's suit shifted back into casual clothing—a simple shirt and jeans—as he turned to her. Gwen followed suit, changing her Spider attire into a pair of jeans and a yellow shirt. She glanced at Peter, noticing the tension in his posture.
Peter sighed. "Alright, come here." He gestured for Madame Web to follow them while leading her to the living area. The three settled in: Peter and Gwen seated side by side on the sofa, with Madame Web facing them in her wheelchair.
She smiled knowingly. "So, what do you want to know, Mr. Parker? Why I interrupted you... or perhaps the location of the Mind Stone?"
Peter's eyes narrowed sharply, while Gwen raised an eyebrow in surprise. She already knew about the Infinity Stones—Peter had shared the details with her after consuming Thanos and inheriting his knowledge and power.
Peter leaned forward, "Where is the Mind Stone? And how the hell do you know that."
Madame Web's smile deepened. "It will find its way to you shortly, Peter. May I call you that?"
Peter ran a hand through his hair and his patience is slowly wearing thin. "Look, this is giving me a headache. Why don't you cut the cryptic act and explain? How do you know about the Mind Stone? And why did you appear only when I was about to kill Miguel? What are you planning?"
His frustration evident. All his second life turned into a big joke for cosmic entities to play with. This is wearing him down as he needed some answers and the one who he thinks knows something is answering his questions in riddles. He is controlling himself from eating her and get the info he need.
Beside him, Gwen's gaze was equally stern as she studied Madame Web, who remained unbothered by their intensity.
"I know a great deal about you, Peter," Madame Web said calmly, "That's how I know about the Mind Stone. As for where it is... let's just say it resides with the Spider Bride."
Peter is now loosing his shit after hearing this sentence. Then Gwen took his arm into hers while trying to calm him down.
