Chapter 58: A Miracle unfolds and Uncertain Paths

**Earth-1999999**

Peter guided Wanda to her room, her expression is still frozen in shock from what had just transpired. The weight of everything lingered in the air as they entered, and she sat beside him on the edge of the bed, lost in thought.

A few moments passed in silence before Wanda finally spoke. "So… what is it about all those people being alive?" She turned to Peter and asked while hesitating, "Peter… what did you do?"

Peter simply smiled and his gaze shifting to the TV. It was then automatically turned ON and the news was still playing, and the anchor's voice filled the room.

"In what can only be described as a miracle, all those who were reported dead in the Lagos incident have been mysteriously found alive in their homes. What is even more astonishing is that the critically injured victims have made a full recovery within hours. Medical experts are baffled, with some calling it an act of divine intervention, while others suspect an unknown scientific phenomenon at play."

The screen then shifted to various reactions from the public and political figures.

A news analyst debated, "We have never seen anything like this before. Entirely unexplainable. Some religious groups are calling it 'divine mercy,' while skeptics suggest it could be the result of an advanced healing technology."

Another political figure was shown giving a statement. "If this is the work of an individual, then we need to understand the extent of their powers. No one should wield such absolute control over life and death without oversight."

A civilian who is interviewed on the streets, expressed their shock. "I lost my brother in the explosion… but when I woke up, he was home, like nothing had happened. I don't care how it happened, I just— I'm grateful."

Wanda's eyes widened as she absorbed the implications of what she was hearing. Slowly, she turned to Peter with realization dawning on her.

Peter's smile didn't fade. "I reversed time a little bit and saved them," he admitted casually as if it were the simplest thing in the world.

Wanda's breath hitched. "You… can do that?"

Peter chuckled lightly with his eyes glinting with amusement. "Honey," he said playfully, "you have no idea what I'm truly capable of."

The heavy atmosphere gradually lightened as their conversation shifted. Wanda, still processing everything, found comfort in Peter's presence. They talked about his abilities, about what he could do, and eventually, their discussion turned casual, a much-needed reprieve from the tension of the day.

Peter felt relieved to see Wanda relaxing, the burden of guilt easing from her shoulders. With everyone alive, the pain of her mistake wasn't as heavy as before.

For now, at least, she could breathe again.

...

The Avengers, now gathered in the common room of the compound, sat in stunned silence.

They had seen the news. They had made the calls. And the truth was undeniable.

Peter Parker, the kid they once saw as just an overpowered anomaly, had done the impossible—he had brought the dead back to life. If word got out, it would send shockwaves across the world. Governments, organizations, and individuals alike would either worship him or seek to control him.

For a brief moment, the Sokovia Accords were completely forgotten.

Sam finally broke the silence. "Ross knows about him. And after what he did today, I doubt he'll just let Peter go."

Rhodes, ever the loyal soldier, shook his head. "Ross is a respected figure. He's just doing what he thinks is best for the country."

Sam scoffed. "Exactly. And that's the problem. We have no idea what he's willing to do to Peter in the name of 'protecting the country.'"

Their argument escalated until Steve finally raised a hand. "Alright, that's enough."

The room fell silent again as Steve continued, his voice steady. "No matter what happens, Peter is still a kid. He shouldn't be dragged into politics. We need to make sure of that."

Natasha exhaled sharply. "Before we do anything about Peter, we need to make sure we're not disbanded first." She reached into her bag and placed the forgotten Sokovia Accords back on the table.

The document that had started it all.

Steve frowned. "I think Peter already made the main point. This will restrict us. What if they stop us from going where we're needed? Worse—what if they send us somewhere we don't want to go?"

No one had an immediate answer.

Tony was silent, staring at something on his phone, lost in thought.

Vision, who had remained quiet until now, finally spoke. "I have an equation."

Sam sighed. "Great. Let's hear it."

Vision continued, "Ever since Mr. Stark announced himself as Iron Man, the number of world-ending events has increased exponentially."

Steve narrowed his eyes. "You're saying this is our fault?"

"I am saying," Vision clarified, "that our very strength invites challenge. Challenge invites conflict. And conflict breeds catastrophe."

Rhodes turned to Sam with a smirk. "Boom. There it is."

Natasha, however, turned her sharp gaze to Tony. "The brain of the team has been unusually quiet about this."

All eyes shifted to Stark.

Without a word, he stood up, walked over to the counter, and took his medication.

Steve watched him carefully. "It's because he's already made up his mind. He's just hesitating."

Tony smirked, though there was little humor in it. "Boy, you know me too well."

After taking his medicine, he finally spoke. "With all the power we have, we can't just let it go unchecked. Someone has to take responsibility."

Steve's expression hardened. "If we sign this, we're not taking responsibility—we're shifting the blame."

The argument continued, growing more intense, until Steve's phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen, and his face fell.

A simple message.

"She passed away in her sleep."

Steve swallowed hard, then stood up abruptly. "I have to go."

With that, the debate ended. The room fell into silence once more, but this time, no one had anything left to say.

...

**Earth-66**

A portal shimmered open, and Peter and Jean stepped through, appearing right at the front door of his house.

Jean blinked while adjusting to her surroundings. At first glance, nothing seemed out of place, yet something felt subtly different—like an echo of her own world, but… off.

Peter, however, narrowed his eyes. Something was wrong. He could feel it—the timeline here was accelerating.

Before he could voice his thoughts, the front door swung open.

Aunt May, dressed casually and holding a shopping bag, paused mid-step, her eyes widening in pleasant surprise. "Oh, my—Peter! Did you finish work early?"

Peter smiled. "No, Aunt May. I've got something important to share with you."

It was only then that May noticed Jean standing beside him, shifting nervously. Her warm gaze softened further as she smiled. "Oh, and you brought a friend! That's a surprise."

Turning to Jean, she extended a hand. "Hi, I'm May Parker—Peter's aunt..... You know, Peter hasn't brought any of his friends over in a while."

Jean shook her hand gently. "Hi, I'm Jean. Jean Grey."

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Jean. Come on in."

May stepped aside, letting them into the house. Jean's eyes flickered around the living room, taking in every detail, as she followed Peter to the sofa.

A few moments later, May returned from the kitchen, carrying a tray with glasses of orange juice. She set it on the table, then handed one to Jean. "Here you go, dear."

Jean hesitated briefly before glancing at Peter. He gave her a small nod, reassuring her, and she took a sip.

May, pleased, turned her attention back to Peter. "So, what is it that you wanted to talk about?"

Peter leaned forward slightly. "It's important. Gwen needs to be here, too—I already let her know, so let's wait until she arrives."

May nodded in understanding but soon noticed Jean staring at her. "Something wrong, dear?"

Jean shook her head quickly. "I'm sorry for staring, but… you look so young. Anyone would think you're Peter's older sister."

Peter internally winced. 'That was a critical hit, Jean.'

May's smile widened, clearly enjoying the compliment. "Oh, am I? Well, thank you, sweetheart."

With that, the conversation took on a new life. Jean and May began chatting like old friends, their discussion flowing effortlessly.

Peter, now completely ignored, sighed inwardly.

'Yep. I've officially been sidelined.'
