Chapter 62: The Aftermath of a Miracle

**Earth-199999**

A Few Days Later…

The world was still shaken.

A few days had passed since the miraculous resurrection of those who had died in the tragic Lagos plane crash, yet the event still dominated news channels, social media, and political debates.

The world had seen many strange events—alien invasions, gods walking among men, the rise of superheroes—but never anything like this.

A miracle.

The sudden revival of every passenger from the deadly plane crash had sent shockwaves through society. People who had mourned their loved ones were now embracing them again, unable to comprehend what had happened.

Many fell to their knees, weeping in joy and disbelief. Others struggled with the fear of the unknown—who could bring back the dead? And at what cost?

Social media exploded with hashtags like #MiracleOfTheCentury, #GodsWill, and #SecondChance.

Conspiracy theories flooded the internet:

"It was an act of God!"

"A secret government experiment!"

"The work of an unknown super-powered being!"

But one question stood above all—who was behind this?

Every news network had made this their top story, and they were relentless in their coverage.

CNN:

"Was this a divine miracle or advanced science? Today, we bring in religious scholars and scientists to debate—"

BBC:

"Survivors of the plane crash speak out! How does it feel to come back from the dead? And what does this mean for humanity?"

FOX News:

"Is this proof that superheroes are playing God? Should we be afraid of this unknown power?"

Daily Bugle (J. Jonah Jameson):

"I TOLD YOU! SUPER-POWERED MENACES ARE RUNNING LOOSE! WHO DID THIS? WHO'S NEXT? ARE WE EVEN SAFE ANYMORE?!"

Some politicians had begun calling for an investigation, arguing that whoever had this kind of power needed to be held accountable. Others claimed it was a blessing and should be celebrated.

Religious institutions seized the opportunity to reinforce their beliefs.

The Vatican:

"This is proof of God's mercy! A sign that miracles still happen in this world!"

Islamic Scholars:

"Allah's will is beyond human comprehension. Perhaps this is a test of faith."

Hindu Priests:

"This could be the work of a divine being, an avatar among us!"

Buddhist Monks:

"Life and death are cycles, but today we have seen something unnatural. We must seek wisdom in understanding this event."

Evangelical preachers began preaching harder than ever, saying:

"The Rapture is coming! The chosen ones will rise, and the rest will be left behind!"

Meanwhile, atheists and skeptics pushed back.

"If it was God, why didn't He save the people before the crash?"

"Why do religious leaders claim a miracle whenever something unexplained happens?"

TV debates were chaotic, with scientists, religious leaders, and political analysts arguing over the implications.

Scientists struggled to explain what had happened. "There is no known scientific method that allows mass resurrection," one leading biologist stated.

Religious leaders were calling it an act of divine intervention, praising it as a sign of God's presence in the modern world.

Governments were silent, not wanting to comment before fully understanding the situation.

The world was divided, and tensions were rising.

Among the celebrations and prayers, there was also fear.

If someone could bring back the dead, could they also kill with a thought?

What if this power fell into the wrong hands?

Would governments try to control or weaponize it?

And most importantly—who did it?

The world wanted answers.

And Thaddeus Ross was determined to let them find it.

...

Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross was furious.

Ever since the plane crash resurrection event, the world had been thrown into chaos. Governments were scrambling for answers, intelligence agencies were on high alert, and religious groups were claiming divine intervention.

Ross, however, was one of the few people who knew the truth—or at least, part of it. Someone with immense power had done this, and that someone was Peter Parker.

Ross had been in the military and government for decades. He had faced Hulk-level threats, fought for control over enhanced individuals, and spent years trying to regulate them. But this?

This was something else.

A teenager—a kid who wasn't even old enough to match the years of experience Ross had in his pinky finger—had openly mocked him in front of the Avengers. Ross had been working on the Sokovia Accords to gain more control over superpowered individuals, but Peter had undermined him completely with a simple display of power.

Ross was humiliated. And for a man like him, that was unacceptable.

This wasn't like Bruce Banner, who had to constantly hide because of his uncontrollable transformation. Peter Parker was different. He was confident, powerful, and worst of all—completely unpredictable.

Ross immediately ordered an investigation. He wanted everything there was to know about Peter Parker.

The Official Records on Peter Parker:

Name: Peter Parker

Status: Orphan

Background: Grew up in Queens, raised in May orphanage.

Education: Attended Midtown High School

Recent History: Recently gained powers and assisted the Avengers in taking down Ultron

Abilities (Known): Enhanced strength, agility, web-based abilities

The records were too perfect.

Ross had a gut feeling that this was only part of the story.

Who exactly was Peter Parker? Where did his powers truly come from?

And more importantly… was he the only one?

Ross saw an opportunity to bring Peter Parker—and other enhanced individuals—under government control.

The Sokovia Accords, which required all powered individuals to register and operate under government supervision, had gained international approval.

A conference had been scheduled where world leaders and key government figures would discuss the next steps. Ross intended to use the event to Publicly label Peter Parker as a security threat and Convince world leaders that superpowered beings needed strict regulation.

Ensure that Peter would be forced to register under the Sokovia Accords.

However, his plans collapsed when the conference was attacked.

Ross had expected the conference to be a political battlefield.

Instead, it turned into an actual war zone.

A massive explosion ripped through the event, killing multiple world leaders—including King T'Chaka of Wakanda.

Panic spread as security forces scrambled to control the situation.

What should have been a diplomatic summit turned into a scene of panic and bloodshed.

Security forces rushed to the site, alarms blared, and international leaders scrambled for safety. The world watched in horror as live broadcasts captured the chaos.

Within minutes, intelligence agencies across the world began working to identify the culprit.

And they found him.

Surveillance footage showed Bucky Barnes at the scene. Immediately his face was plastered across every news channel.

The world now believed that a Hydra assassin had just murdered one of the most important figures in the world.

The Wakandans were outraged and the World governments were furious but Ross saw an opportunity.

As the world turned against Bucky, Captain Steve Rogers refused to believe it.

Steve knew Bucky. He knew his best friend wasn't a terrorist.

But Ross and world governments didn't care about Steve's feelings.

They mobilized forces to capture Bucky.

A full-scale manhunt began, leading to an explosive confrontation between security forces and Steve Rogers in Bucharest.

Despite Steve's best efforts, Bucky was ultimately captured. Along with Steve, Sam and Surprisingly Wakanda Prince in a Cat suit.

Ross personally oversaw Bucky's imprisonment.

With Bucky in custody, Ross smirked.

This was his chance to regain the upper hand.

He now planned to use Bucky as a scapegoat, proving why the Sokovia Accords were necessary.

He wanted to pressure Captain America into compliance, making him choose between loyalty to his friend and obeying the law.

He still had his eye on Parker, believing this was just a temporary delay in his greater plan to bring the kid under control.

.....

The world was burning with political turmoil, and in the midst of it all, Peter Parker and Wanda Maximoff decided they needed a break. Sneaking out of the Avengers Compound wasn't exactly the most responsible thing to do, but it wasn't like they were running away forever—just for a day.

A little fresh air, some time away from the never-ending tension, and a chance to forget about the mess waiting for them back home.

It was like a date. At least, that's what Wanda kept telling herselves.

Of course, disappearing from the Compound unnoticed wasn't easy. But Peter had it all covered.

He projected an illusion of himself and Wanda inside, making sure no one would suspect a thing.

A little telepathic power here and there nudged people's thoughts away from them, making other ignore thier presence and with some electromagnetic trickery, he erased their presence from security cameras and tracking devices. As far as the Avengers were concerned, Peter and Wanda had never left.

But in reality, they were walking freely under the sky, breathing in crisp, unmonitored air, far from responsibilities and Sokovia Accords drama.

Their first stop was the movies. Wanda insisted on a romantic comedy, and Peter—ever the gentleman—let her choose, though he groaned dramatically.

"You do realize I'm risking my life watching this, right?" he whispered as the trailers rolled.

Wanda smirked while throwing a piece of popcorn at him. "Oh, please. I've seen you cry over animated movies."

"That was one time, and it was Up!" Peter shot back while shoving popcorn into his mouth.

As the movie started, Peter couldn't help but glance at Wanda as she laughed at the silly jokes on screen. The way her eyes sparkled when she smiled made the whole movie seem less important.

He found himself laughing more at the sight of her smiling than anything on the screen. "I think that joke was supposed to be funny," Peter whispered while nudging her, "but your smile is stealing the show."

Wanda playfully rolled her eyes. "Oh stop making jokes, Parker."

But the way he smiled and looked at her made her blush.Next, they wandered through the city, exploring shopping malls and casually browsing through stores. Wanda tried on a few outfits, asking Peter for his opinion, and he gave exaggerated reactions that made her laugh harder each time.

As the day turned into evening, they ended up at a cozy coffee shop. The world seemed to slow around them, and for once, they could just be two people enjoying a peaceful moment. It felt almost normal. No superheroes. No world-ending threats. Just them, sharing a quiet evening together, savoring their drinks.

As they drink their coffee, Wanda began to think more about him... about them.

Wanda had always been drawn to Peter. At first, she told herself it was just gratitude—after all, he had gone out of his way to help her, to restore what she had lost, to make her feel like she wasn't alone. But over time, it had become something more.

She had once thought she was attracted to Vision, but that feeling had faded the more she spent time with Peter.

Vision was logical, calm and steady. Peter was… Peter. He made her laugh when she wanted to cry. He understood her even when she didn't understand herself. He was unpredictable, chaotic, and—despite all the jokes—one of the most lovely person she had ever met.

And she was falling for him.

As they sat side by side in the warmth of the café, Wanda hesitated for a moment before slowly reaching out, placing her hand over Peter's. He turned and his gaze softening as their eyes met.

"You do realize this is how most rom-coms start," he said while smirking.

"Shut up," she muttered though her cheeks turned pink.

They both leaned in, closing the distance between them. Their breaths mingled, warmth spreading between them as their lips were just inches apart. Her heart pounded. His pulse quickened.

But before their lips could meet—

"If you're here for that, get a room. Why did you even agree to meet me?"

The sudden voice shattered the moment like glass. Wanda immediately pulled back, whipping her head around to see none other than Pietro Maximoff standing a few feet away, arms crossed, looking thoroughly unimpressed.

For a second, neither Peter nor Wanda spoke. The weight of sheer, unfiltered disappointment hung in the air.

Peter exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose. "You really have the worst timing, don't you?"

Pietro smirked. "It's a gift."

Wanda groaned as she began rubbing her temples. This was exactly why they had snuck out in the first place—to meet Pietro, who had been taking an extended vacation from the whole 'superhero' thing. But she hadn't expected him to pop up right at that moment.

"Are you two seriously flirting right now?" Pietro asked while raising an eyebrow. "Did I walk into an actual rom-com?"

Wanda glared at him. "Shut up, Pietro."

Peter sighed while shaking his head. "You know what? I blame myself. I should've sensed the third-wheel energy approaching."

Pietro grinned, clapping him on the back. "You're welcome."

"Don't tempt me to blast you," Wanda muttered.
