Avatar: Mage of All Elements

Chapter 92: Chapter 92

A wave of my hand and a five meter column of ice appeared twenty meters away from us.

«That's good, but you still have a lot to learn», I equalized my breathing, «But just so you understand exactly what it's about, I'll show you now.»

I stood up and exhaled. A blow and two huge streams of fire flew out of both hands, traveling twenty meters in an instant and exploding with fire. The heat was incredible. But I had succeeded. Korra looked at the destruction in shock.

Yes, this is the highest fire magic, but this blow could be much stronger.

«I can do more than that. The important thing is that you realize that your level, this is just the beginning. Do you realize that?»

«Yes», she said quietly, staring spellbound at the ten-meter funnel that was descending.

«Now the earth magic.»

Focus. Get all the power under control. Now I can feel the ground beneath me. Gathering strength. One pulse and we were lifted fifty meters. Another and another fifty meters up. Letting go of the power.

I looked around. We were at a great height, but we must continue the test. Get into the stance. Visualize the result. Begin to move. The ice under our feet turned to water and it poured down. A large enough area melted and we descended. One minute and we were on the ground.

«Now earth magic», I said with a smile, seeing Korra's lost look, «Don't be afraid, I'm just testing you.»

«I'll never pass this exam», she said murderously.

«You will», I said confidently, «I'm not asking you to win, Aang couldn't. Just show me what you can do.»

A pulse and a small pebble flew slowly towards her. She dodged it, though slowly. And in return, she sent a large boulder. Gradually the speed increased, as did the size of the stones we exchanged. Gradually, her insecurity passed and she no longer held back.

But nothing could last forever, and after making a few mistakes, she fallen down.

«Are you okay?» I asked, going over to her and using water magic to heal the bruise on her head.

«I failed?» she said sadly, «After all, I've never been able to defeat you.»

«Eh», I sighed, «As far as I'm concerned, these trials don't make any sense at all. Aang traveled the world when he was fourteen. Yes, there was a war going on and there wasn't much choice. But he wasn't held by anyone, anywhere.»

«Then why am I being held here?» she asked with some lingering resentment.

«I have no idea», I shrugged, «But if it makes you feel better, you can tell everyone you passed the test», I smiled, «But you have to realize that any mage who is a master will beat you without much effort.»

«But how do I get stronger?» she asked sadly.

«Practice», I shrugged again and finished the treatment, «Remember one thing I've learned from living for decades now. No one needs you but your loved ones. And by protecting them, you gain strength.»

I gave her a hand and helped her up. We walked back in silence. She had a lot to think about, and so did I. I could now fully control all of my earth power.

It had taken me a year to train my body to do this. But I've done it. What I need to do next is to refine my control. In terms of brute strength, I am now unrivaled, but in terms of control, there are a few people who surpass me. In water, it's just the opposite. I have almost jewel-like control, but I'll lose to the Avatar in sheer power. With fire, it's not clear yet.

On the one hand, if it weren't for the power of my flame, I'd be losing to a lot of people right now. But the flames aren't going anywhere, so I'm the strongest in the world next to the Avatar. Besides, I haven't perfected my style yet. And there's still energy magic. By the way.

«Korra.»

«Yes?» she asked.

«How about teaching me something?» I asked with a smile.

«What?» she was incredibly surprised «What can I teach you?»

«Energy magic», I shrugged, «In exchange I'll give you scrolls on higher fire, earth and water magic. Interested?»

«Very much, but I don't know such magic», she said sullenly.

«Don't worry», I patted her on the head, «You will definitely learn it. It's only a matter of time.»

«Alright then», she said seriously after thinking for a while, «If I hear anything about it, I'll train you right away.»

«Heh-heh-heh», I laughed, «That's good to hear.»

«Why didn't you ask Aang?»

«Eh, he and I didn't get along very well», I scratched the back of my head, «We even fought», I smiled, remembering the time I kneed him in his avatar face, «Because I didn't even ask him to do it.»

«And who won?» she asked curiously.

«I did», he replied, not without pride.

«How?» she asked in surprise.

«I dropped a meteorite on him», I shrugged.

«A meteorite?» she asked in shock.

And walked back calmly with Azula.
