Avatar: Mage of All Elements

Chapter 93: Chapter 93

I lit a small light on the end of my finger and stared at it. It was the size of a fingernail on my little finger. Azula walked beside me, smiling at her thoughts. We made our way home, to the icy cliff.

There were many things to think about. Like, did I do the right thing? Yes, Korra is an Avatar and I can't trust her (the Avatar). But on the other hand, she's just a normal girl. Honest, kind, funny. Was it really necessary to play with her feelings? I don't know. But there's no going back.

I can't go back in time and just walk away on the last visit. That's when I etched myself into her memory. It's corny, but I set an example for a seven-year-old girl. That's why she wanted to see me again. And I didn't disappoint her. But energy magic is more important to me. Because I can use it to protect Azula. Nothing else matters.

«Why?» I asked, looking tired and smiling.

«Please», Nia whimpered, «Stay until the party.»

«But what will Mom say?» I covered my eyes with my hands as I couldn't stop smiling.

«I'll talk to her», she said convincingly.

«Enough already», my mom rolled her eyes and quietly propped the doors open, «He was planning on staying from the beginning.»

«Heh-heh-heh...» I laughed, dropping my hands.

«Bro!» Nia shouted indignantly, but soon joined me.

«Don't worry», I ruffled her hair, «I'll train you some more.»

«Yay!» she exclaimed, jumping up and galloping out of the room.

«Yeah. She doesn't act like that with me», Hama shook her head.

I just shrugged. I've been here for three months now. And the whole time I've been either training with Azula or training Nia. Reports from the island come in once a month, so I'm always aware of the situation. I also get messages from the Republic. There's some kind of chaos going on over there with Korra in charge. Just another gang wanting power, nothing like that.

Even though I practiced, I wasn't tired. Yes, my body was tense, especially during the rare sparring sessions with Azula, but my mind was at peace. Probably because I had rejuvenated my mother and her husband a bit. Or is it the realization that my family is here? Or seeing a happy Azula with a smile on her face? Or maybe it's all of the above.

«Remind me again why I have to stay here for another three months?» she spat on the couch.

«So you can finally familiarize yourself with our traditions», she grumbled.

«I already know them, don't I?»

«And yet you've never seen them!» said Hama indignantly, «Eh», she sighed heavily, «You know, I want to hand over the rule of the south.»

«To whom?» I asked with interest, rising slightly.

«To Tonraku.»

«The Avatar's father, right?» I pondered thoughtfully and lowered my head again.

«Just because he's her father, he's the perfect candidate», she muttered seriously.

«That's both a plus and a minus», I muttered thoughtfully, «She should stick to neutrality, but knowing her character, that's unlikely to happen. She could antagonize the other nations.»

«But she could also protect us», she agreed, but her view of the situation was different from mine, «Few people would turn against an Avatar. You're a prime example.»

«Except I'm not an Avatar», I muttered, looking at the ceiling, «She is. But I don't want to discourage you. If you want to pass on the power, I'll support you.

«Thank you», she murmured with a small smile and walked away.

One less thing to worry about. Maybe I'll convince her to move to my island. We'll take the little one and go. Just a little more and I'd be at peace.

I looked out the window. The sun was at its zenith. I listened to the feel of the blood. Next. Not that, not that. Yeah, there's Azula. She's practicing.

I got up and went over to her. There was nothing to do, so I'll practice too.

Step to the side. The stream comes within a few millimeters of me. The stream coming at me turned and flew back. For a moment there was an indignant shriek, but the water made it to Nia and drenched her. No big deal, she just sat on her butt. Wet, angry and defeated.

«One more time?» I asked with interest.

«Yes!» she replied angrily.

She jumped up, took a few blows, and a huge wave came crashing down on me. Riding it, she charged at me. One wave and I was thrown upward by a pillar of ice. I grabbed some water, waited until Nia was almost under me and threw it at her. The impact and the wave collapsed and Nia was back, wet but without strength. Still, the wave was pretty big and it took a lot of strength.

Shaking my head, I went over to her. She was unconscious. Yeah, I guess I went a little overboard. A splash and all the water from her clothes was gone. Sighing, I threw her on my back and headed for my mom's house. Luckily we weren't far away.

Twenty minutes and we were there, walking into the house. Hama was already there, waiting for us with an angry face. But when she saw the satisfied smile of the little one who was only pretending to sleep, she rolled her eyes, turned around and left. Only I saw her faint smile.

«Do you want me to put you down here or take you up to your room?» I asked, turning slightly to the little one.

«Upstairs», she said quietly, blushing at the same time. ....
