Chapter 186: Chapter 186 – Reviving Nono Yakushi, Kabuto's Loyalty: 100
After their emotional reunion, Rin walked up to Hyuga Gakuya and gave him a deep bow, her voice full of gratitude.
"Thank you… for giving me a second chance at life."
Gakuya's face lit up with a warm smile, radiating righteousness and humility.
"It was nothing. Obito and I are comrades with the same goal. It was at his heartfelt request that I brought you back."
He had deliberately shifted all the credit onto Obito.
"Even so, I want to thank you. And…" Rin turned around and gave Obito a radiant smile. "Thank you, Obito!"
The moment she said that, Obito seemed to revert back to the Uchiha Obito of Konohagakure. Embarrassed, he scratched the back of his head.
"You don't need to thank me…"
Rin looked at him, concern and curiosity in her eyes.
"Obito… what exactly happened to you all these years? And what about Kakashi? How has he been?"
A faint smile tugged at Gakuya's lips.
Even after being revived, Rin's thoughts still drift toward Kakashi…
He glanced at Obito, whose nose looked suspiciously red.
Obito quickly looked away, unable to meet Rin's clear, watery gaze. His lips parted, but it felt as though something was stuck in his throat. No words came out.
His heart was filled with turmoil and pain. How could he ever let her know the crimes he'd committed in the name of revenge—the blood, the darkness?
"I'm fine… really. And Kakashi… well, he's still the same. He's become a ninja who'll do whatever it takes to achieve his goals."
Hyuga Gakuya suddenly spoke up, stepping in to shield Obito.
"We're working on something… something truly monumental. A new Shinobi World is within reach, and we're almost there."
"Until then, stay here and rest. Once everything is done, you'll return to a world unlike the one you left."
"These plans are top secret, so Obito isn't at liberty to talk about them."
With those words, Gakuya not only eased the pressure on Obito but also elevated his image in Rin's eyes.
The way Rin looked at Obito shifted. No longer just a friend in need of care—now, he was someone to be admired.
She nodded thoughtfully, her voice soft.
"I don't fully understand it all… but I trust you, Obito."
Obito lowered his head slightly, his emotions in turmoil. He knew full well that the path he walked was drenched in lies and sin. And yet, faced with Rin's unwavering gaze, a sliver of doubt crept into his heart.
Still, he was deeply grateful to Gakuya for stepping in on his behalf.
After settling Rin in one of the lunar chambers, Gakuya and Obito returned to the Kamui Dimension.
"You don't need to feel guilty," Gakuya said calmly. "I told her the truth. Once the plan is complete, we really will create a brand-new world."
"You'll be one of the heroes who built it. By then, Kakashi will just be another ninja. You, on the other hand, will be the one who helped bring about that future."
"But if we fail… then you'll be branded a criminal. You'd better think that through."
There was no mistaking the message in Gakuya's words—if Obito wanted to win Rin's heart, he had to stay the course.
Obito took a deep breath and replied in a low, determined voice.
"Thank you for bringing Rin back. I'll follow your plan to the letter."
Gakuya nodded in satisfaction.
"Good. Now we need to move faster. Sasuke has already fused the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan—his power has grown significantly. It's time we make use of it. Take him and declare war on the Five Great Nations."
"After that, you and he will each implant a Rinnegan to further boost your strength. Then… we start the Shinobi World War."
A cold gleam flashed in Obito's eyes.
"Understood."
"I'm glad you understand. It's still early—why not go spend some time with her? Take advantage of the fact that Kakashi isn't around right now," Gakuya added with a sly smile.
Obito's eyes lit up with realization.
"I see… thank you."
His tone now carried clear respect, a clear sign of his allegiance.
At this point, Obito and Hyuga Gakuya were on the same ship. If Gakuya were to fall, not only would Rin likely disappear again, but Obito would also be branded an eternal villain, never to receive Rin's forgiveness.
As Obito vanished into the Kamui space, Gakuya watched with a pleased expression.
This… was his second layer of insurance.
He now had Obito's complete loyalty. From any angle, Obito was now utterly devoted to him.
Even if Naruto himself came to try and 'talk no jutsu' him into switching sides, it would be useless—because behind Obito now stood Rin. Or maybe Kakashi too. But Gakuya didn't care who Rin loved or whether Obito deserved to be revived.
All that mattered was the plan moving forward perfectly.
And Gakuya's moral compass? It was flexible—very flexible.
Now, it was time to pull in one more person completely. Though arguably unnecessary at this point, he still had to do it: Kabuto Yakushi.
He had once promised Kabuto that he would revive Nono Yakushi—and now was the perfect time to fulfill that promise.
...
Kabuto had successfully implanted Sasuke with two pairs of Mangekyō Sharingan and administered a fusion-accelerating serum. He then left a puppet to tend to Sasuke.
Not long after, he received Gakuya's message and made his way to the mouth of a hidden cave.
Without a word, Gakuya pulled him into the Kamui space with a swirl, smiling as he said,
"I'm taking you to see someone. I think you'll be quite pleased."
Kabuto seemed to have an idea of what was coming. Bowing low, he said with deep sincerity,
"Thank you, Gakuya-sama. I will do everything in my power to see your plan through."
There was a genuine smile on Kabuto's face. Clearly, he had already guessed who this person was.
Gakuya led him into a newly constructed chamber on the moon, where Nono Yakushi was already waiting.
The moment Kabuto saw her, his eyes reddened, his voice trembling.
"Director…"
Nono was just as moved. She opened her arms wide to greet him.
Kabuto rushed forward and embraced her tightly, tears streaming uncontrollably down his face.
Gakuya stood quietly off to the side, watching the emotional scene with a look of satisfaction.
Leaders like me… you won't find another one in ten lifetimes.
After reviving Nono Yakushi, he had handed her all the evidence of Danzo's manipulations—ensuring that there'd be no awkward misunderstandings to spoil this precious reunion.
Once Kabuto and Nono had calmed down a bit, Gakuya spoke.
"Kabuto, your wish has been granted. I hope you'll now dedicate yourself even more to our cause."
Kabuto nodded firmly.
"Gakuya-sama, your kindness knows no bounds. I'll go through fire and blood for you—whatever it takes."
Gakuya smiled, satisfied.
"Good. We're at a critical stage now. We can't afford any mistakes."
Kabuto's expression turned solemn.
"Rest assured, Gakuya-sama. I understand."
Kabuto didn't possess space-time ninjutsu, so he couldn't travel between the moon and the Shinobi World on his own. Once the reunion was over, Gakuya returned him to the surface and reminded him to keep a close watch on Sasuke and carry out the next steps of the plan.
