Chapter 300: The Creation Of A Temple And The Descent Of A God
"Well, here's how it is…" The Parasitic Will sighed when it saw Daniel had calmed down and no longer released killing intent, then began to explain everything.
It turned out that over a thousand years ago, the Moon Goddess descended to this world. No one knew the exact reason for her descent.
However, when she descended, she only built this temple, and no one knew what purpose she intended for it.
But suddenly, the goddess was attacked by an unknown person. A massive battle broke out — the skies were torn apart, and the world itself was pierced.
The sky wept blood, and more than half of the world's population died in that battle.
The Parasitic Will had lived in a cave next to the temple, calling it home. Parasitic Wills didn't have specific dwellings; they simply picked quiet places with good food sources and lived there.
But during that battle, the Parasitic Will's home was completely destroyed, leaving nothing behind. It was forced to enter the temple the goddess had built just to survive.
Miraculously, the temple was the only structure that hadn't been destroyed in that conflict.
The battle lasted for years, until both sides were severely wounded. The unknown man retreated, and the goddess, also heavily injured, entered the temple to heal.
The goddess noticed the Parasitic Will but didn't bother with it, allowing it to live there.
One of the goddess's eyes had been severely damaged during the battle and was no longer usable. Strangely, no matter how much she tried to heal it, she couldn't.
In the end, the goddess left that eye behind in the temple, left the world, and ascended back to the heavens.
The Parasitic Will, seeing the eye, approached it. It hadn't eaten in a long time and was starving.
It tried to devour the goddess's eye — and succeeded! But the eye of a divine being wasn't so simple.
After consuming it, the Will underwent a kind of evolution, even gaining the ability to create a body resembling the goddess and use a fraction of her powers, though at a far weaker and heavily limited level.
"So basically, you're just a useless fraud," Daniel chuckled, though he was genuinely intrigued by the story.
It turned out the real Moon Goddess had truly descended to this world, built this temple, and even left one of her eyes here.
The result of all that was the Parasitic Will before him — something that had pretended to be the goddess for centuries.
"But you still didn't explain why you couldn't leave this temple," Daniel glanced at it and asked.
"That's a restriction the goddess placed on her eye before leaving. The eye can never leave the temple, and that 'goddess copy' was essentially created from the goddess's eye," the Parasitic Will replied.
It wasn't that it had never wanted to leave. With those marks it had planted on the souls of everyone who entered the temple, it basically commanded a very powerful army now.
If it could leave, it would essentially take control of the entire Everlight Moon guild… but to leave, it needed a body with exceptional qualifications and compatibility.
"Why not just abandon the body and leave? You could've found another one out there — ah, forget it, I think I get it," Daniel laughed.
Thinking it over, the reason wasn't hard to guess — this Parasitic Will was a true coward. It was waiting for a body with exceptional compatibility and qualifications.
Even if it left this place, finding and possessing a body with those traits would be extremely difficult, nearly impossible.
The standards it sought could only be met by top-tier geniuses, but those geniuses had countless means to resist and escape a parasite like it.
"As I said, I evolved. In terms of quality, I'm now one of the strongest Parasitic Wills out there. But because of that, not just any body can withstand a Will as strong as mine," it sighed.
But Daniel looked at it with a greedy gaze, making it tremble. He (he) saw many possible uses for such a creature. Couldn't he simply kill a top-tier genius from one of the major powers and give this parasite the body?
That way, he could help that "genius" rise to the top of their faction, while secretly being the true master of that power.
Of course, all of this hinged on him turning this Parasitic Will into one of his Fallen.
For some reason, the Parasitic Will felt a cold chill creep through it.
"Anyway, tell me about those marks you left on people's souls," Daniel set aside his plans for now and asked.
"Well… those marks are called Soul Parasites. When I evolved, I gained that skill. I can plant Soul Parasites into the souls of living beings. Any being carrying my Soul Parasite can be controlled by me. The deeper the Soul Parasite embeds itself, the easier it is to control the target."
"I see. That's actually a pretty good skill," Daniel stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Whenever someone enters the temple, they must undergo a series of trials. These are trials set by the Moon Goddess herself, and even I don't know how they work. But I can observe the entire process when someone is being tested."
"I just whisper in their ears and act like I'm guiding them, but in reality, I'm only distracting them so I can plant my parasites in their souls."
Daniel nodded, looking at the parasite with a hint of admiration. Even if it was a bastard, he had to admit — its plan was clever.
If he hadn't confronted it, its scheme would probably have worked flawlessly.
"So right now, you can control everyone who has ever entered this temple?"
"No… some of the ones who entered were too strong, and I didn't dare. Only those I knew I could defeat," the Parasitic Will answered.
"That's still good enough. Actually, I was planning to kill you, but I've changed my mind."
"What do you mea—" Before it could finish, a drop of blood fell onto its head.
