Chapter 299: A Fake Goddess

When Daniel exploded, a sudden overwhelming sense of danger washed over the goddess.

Every single one of her cells screamed at her to run, telling her that if she didn't escape now, the outcome would be disastrous. The sense of danger was so intense that for a moment, it even disrupted her ability to think clearly.

But she wasn't a fool. As a goddess who had lived for over a thousand years, she knew she had to trust her instincts.

She turned to flee, but it was useless. A massive shockwave erupted, engulfing and obliterating everything in the temple. The power of death spread, eroding everything living and non-living within the temple.

"This? No—!" The explosion swallowed even the goddess. She screamed, but it was no use.

Even space-time itself, the layers of reality within the temple, flickered as they began to collapse, erasing everything.

The goddess's body began to decay as the power of death sank deep into her bones, leaving nothing untouched.

Her skin burned and peeled away completely, the face she had been so proud of was entirely destroyed, leaving nothing of her former appearance.

She tried to gather all her power to resist the death energy corroding and destroying everything, but it was pointless — she failed.

She even went as far as burning her life essence to fend off Daniel's terrifying attack, but that too ended in failure.

It didn't matter what she did — nothing could stop Apocalypse. Once activated, it would annihilate everything in its path.

The goddess's skin, flesh, and every organ melted away until nothing but bones remained, and even those were covered in deep cracks, on the verge of crumbling apart at any second.

An unbearable pain consumed her will, threatening to shatter it completely.

She was forced to watch her entire body dissolve without being able to do anything, enduring a pain so severe it defied description.

But somehow, she survived. By sacrificing this false body, she managed to escape death.

Still, the outcome enraged her. She had lost her body… even if it had only been a fake one, even if she couldn't have left the temple with it, it was still a body.

And worse, that insane human had blown himself up, destroying his body completely as well — which meant the body she had planned to seize was gone too.

"That crazy mortal bastard! He actually killed himself just to take me down with him, but the fool didn't think this far ahead," she laughed bitterly.

Her gaze swept across the surroundings. The entire temple space had been destroyed; nothing was left. After all, the interior of this temple was a separate dimension, detached from the real world.

But now, that space was completely gone. Rebuilding it would take a very long time.

She sighed, feeling the pain sink in — her home was gone, her body was gone… and she didn't even have the ability to create a new one. She was forced to continue existing as nothing but a will.

That only stoked her anger and hatred even more.

"Huh? What's this?" Suddenly, she felt multiple kinds of energy gathering at the center of the empty void.

"What's happening?" A heavy sense of dread bloomed in her heart.

[It has been detected that you have died.]

[One of your extra lives has been automatically used.]

Daniel's body slowly reformed, and his will and consciousness returned.

The moment he came back to life, he glanced around. The place was nothing but a void — it seemed the skill he had used had successfully destroyed everything.

There was no trace of the deceitful goddess anywhere.

[Please select one of your Fallen for deletion.]

He glanced through his list of Fallen and picked one of the weakest, least valuable ones.

After that, he stood and released his spiritual sense, sweeping across the space to make sure that wretch was truly dead.

"Hm? So her will is still alive." Daniel chuckled as a powerful energy burst out from him, surging toward the goddess's hidden will.

When the goddess's will realized Daniel was still alive, panic washed over her and she tried to hide quickly… but in her current state, how could she possibly hide from Daniel, who had regained his peak?

It simply wasn't possible.

Daniel stared at the will — just a mass of energy — unsure of what to even say. But the will was clever enough to choose the only path it had to survive.

"I surrender! Please forgive me! I didn't know you were this strong! If I had known, I would never have done this!" The voice of the will was no longer feminine, nor masculine — it was something between the two.

"What exactly are you?" he asked curiously. Hearing that voice, he was now certain that this thing before him wasn't truly the goddess.

"Um…" The thing seemed hesitant to speak.

Daniel growled and released a bit of killing intent. He had no patience for wasting time.

"Fine, fine! I'll talk! I'm actually just a Parasitic Will."

"Parasitic Will?" He frowned. He had never heard of such a species or being before.

"We can take over the bodies of other living beings, gain their memories, control their powers, and…" the Parasitic Will explained.

"So, you had taken over the Moon Goddess's body?" Daniel's frown deepened. There was no way something like that should even be possible, right?

"Of course not… That woman, the Moon Goddess, is a being beyond comprehension. I didn't even dare to breathe in her presence."

"Then explain the situation with this 'goddess body.' Because I highly doubt you can just copy any body you see and make it your own."

Daniel was certain that if this Parasitic Will could create a body for itself so easily, it wouldn't have been so desperate to take his.

Another question gnawed at his mind — why didn't it leave this place when it had a body? Did that body have some kind of restrictions?

And there was still one more question…

Where did those soul marks come from, and how had this Parasitic Will created them?
