Chapter 342: Rebellion
A week passed quietly. Daniel spent the week with his family and in training with Alice and Tiana.
During this time, he didn't go to the Guild much, except for one time when he had to go get the streaming equipment from Lana. The rest of the time, he stayed with his family.
Since becoming an Awakened, he hadn't been able to spend much time with them, and he could see that they were upset about it even if they didn't say anything.
Because of that, he decided that from now on he'd spend more of his free time with them.
Now, naturally, he was in the same glass room from which he had entered the Celestial Domain the last time. Before leaving, he glanced at the streaming equipment.
In fact, it wasn't just streaming equipment — it could also be used for filming. It was obvious Lana wanted to turn him into a social media star.
Well, as long as they didn't get in the way of his progress or cause him trouble, he really didn't care.
After that, he opened the Mother System's panel and clicked on the option to enter the Celestial Domain. Suddenly, the world around him went dark, and the next moment, he found himself back in his luxurious inn room.
He looked around. It hadn't changed from the week before, which was fine. Slowly, he got up and changed his clothes — naturally, he couldn't walk around this world's streets in just a hoodie.
He glanced at the communication talisman that belonged to Andreas. There was still no news. He decided to wander around the city until Andreas contacted him, to see what had happened here over the past week.
After leaving his room, he headed to the counter. The receptionist was the same sweet cat-girl. As soon as she saw him, a smile appeared on her face.
She hadn't seen Daniel for a whole week and thought he'd checked out and left, but no matter how much she checked the list, there was no such record.
Now, seeing that he was apparently still here, she was naturally happy. During the week he'd stayed here, Daniel had spoken to her every day, and they'd basically become like two friends.
"Hi, Daniel! How can I help you today?" she asked with a smile.
"I'd like to extend my current room for three more days," Daniel said calmly. If he wasn't mistaken, his room booking ended today.
"That's great. That'll be 670 gold coins in total."
Without thinking too much, he pulled the required amount of gold from his inventory and placed it on the counter. She took it and put it in the register without even counting.
"So, where were you this past week? I didn't see you at all," she asked curiously. She'd been really bored during the week he wasn't around.
"I was in seclusion, training," Daniel lazily said, just coming up with something.
"I see. Well, I'm glad I didn't let anyone check your room," the cat-girl sighed in relief.
Daniel nodded, chatted with her for a bit longer, then went downstairs. The inn had four floors — one basement level with a bar and restaurant, one ground floor with the reception, and two floors of rooms.
During his week here, he hadn't only befriended the cat-girl — he'd also made a couple more friends in the bar and restaurant.
"Long time no see, Jack," he said with a grin to the burly man across from him who was pouring drinks for others.
"Oh, you're still alive? I thought you were dead," the bald, muscular man named Jack turned and looked at him with a bit of surprise.
"Heh, I was just in seclusion," Daniel raised his hands and chuckled.
"Want me to get you something? Or the usual?"
"The usual, if possible."
Jack nodded, grabbed a glass, poured some tea into it, and set it down in front of the white-haired boy.
"I'm curious why you come here when you only ever drink tea," he asked with a hint of surprise.
"I come to stay informed. Is there anywhere better than here?" Daniel laughed and didn't even try to hide it.
"So you came for the news again," Jack didn't get annoyed — in fact, he started laughing. It had been a long time since he'd seen someone as eccentric as this kid.
"So, tell me, has anything interesting happened?"
"Well, a lot of wealthy and noble people have come here. City security has gone way up, with ten guards stationed every hundred meters. Nobody dares to even try a small theft anymore," he said, then paused.
"That's nothing new," Daniel said lazily.
"You want hot news, huh? Well, I've got one for you. There was a clash between two of the continent's famous powers. It almost turned bloody, but the others stepped in and stopped it," Jack said with a smirk.
"Oh? Which ones?"
"You know the Elthanor Empire? Them, and the Valenberg family."
Daniel frowned. Not only did he know both powers — he had personal reasons and connections with each of them. Still, he couldn't figure out why they'd clash.
"In the Empire, apparently one of the dukes rebelled and managed to take control of a large part of the empire. Chaos has engulfed the whole empire, and the royal family is stuck in a bad situation," Jack explained, noticing the surprise in Daniel's eyes.
"Still, he hasn't been able to eliminate the royal family. I don't know if you know this, but in empires, the royal family's life is tied to the empire's luck. If they die, the entire empire's luck is destroyed."
One of the advantages of royal families is the empire's overall luck.
As the founders of the dynasty, they are connected to it, and the more prosperous the people are, the stronger the luck becomes.
And the stronger the luck, the greater the power and fate of the royal family.
"That's why, even though this duke seems to have the upper hand, he hasn't been able to take over the empire yet."
"And what's that got to do with the Valenberg family?" Daniel nodded to show he understood, then asked.
"Well…"
