Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Chapter 71: Chapter 71

Alaric Voss sits at his desk, his brow furrowed as he pores over the latest reports from his Revenant operatives. As the leader of this clandestine organization, he oversees a vast network of criminal enterprises, from the lucrative drug trade to the more unsavory dealings of human trafficking and assassination.

The Revenants have their hands in many pots, leveraging their influence and resources to maintain a firm grip on the underbelly of Jade City. Alaric's keen strategic mind allows him to navigate these treacherous waters, ensuring the continued success and expansion of his criminal empire.

With each page he turns, Alaric assesses the status of his operations, making mental notes and considering his next moves. The Revenants are a force to be reckoned with, and under Alaric's leadership, they continue to solidify their hold on the city's shadows.

Alaric's head perks up at the knock on the door. "Come in," he calls out.

One of his men enters, a thick file in hand. "Boss, I've got the report on the Thornfield family attack."

Alaric gestures for him to continue, eyes narrowing as he scans the documents. The henchman stands at attention, waiting for Alaric to finish reviewing the findings.

"Well done," he says, his voice low and measured.

The henchman nods, relieved to have pleased his leader. "Shall I continue monitoring the situation?"

Alaric considers for a moment, drumming his fingers on the desk. "Yes, keep a close eye on it. I want to know the moment anything changes."

"Understood." The henchman turns to leave, but pauses at the door. "Is there anything else you require, sir?"

Alaric shakes his head. "That will be all. Return to your post."

The henchman departs, leaving Alaric alone with the report. He leans back in his chair, his brow furrowed in thought as he contemplates his next move.

"I guess I should inform those two."

Alaric rises from his chair, the report in hand, and makes his way to a private meeting room. He knows that Kendrick and his father, Alistair, are waiting for him there. As the leader of the Revenants, Alaric has been protecting the Thornfield family, recognizing their value and influence within Jade City. Even though their influence has diminished since the Silverstone targeted them. Alistair still has other connections outside of Jade City.

Alaric enters the room where Alistair and Kendrick are waiting. Alistair rises to greet him, his expression guarded.

"Alaric, what news do you have for us?" Alistair asks, his voice calm and measured.

Alaric steps forward, the report in hand. "I have the details on the Silverstone attack."

Kendrick leans forward, his eyes narrowed. "Well, out with it then. What happened?"

Alistair shoots his son a stern look. "Kendrick, show some respect."

Alistair turns to Alaric, his expression apologetic. "Please forgive my son's discourtesy. He can be rather impatient at times."

Alaric's gaze hardens as he looks at Kendrick. "See that it does not happen again. If he disrespects me once more, I'll break his arm."

Kendrick shrinks back, a shudder running through him at Alaric's ominous threat.

Alaric continues, "The Silverstone family attacked your family on a request from a developer named Sam Briar."

Alistair's brows furrow. "Sam Briar? I'm not familiar with that name."

Alaric turns his gaze to Kendrick, who sits with clenched fists. "Do you know this Sam Briar?"

Kendrick's jaw tightens, a muscle twitching in his cheek. "Yes, I know him. He's a junior developer at SimQuest."

Kendrick clenches his fists, anger flaring in his chest. "That upstart developer dares to meddle with my family? I'll teach him a lesson he'll never forget!"

Alistair raises a hand, his expression stern. "Calm down, Kendrick. While I agree we must retaliate, rushing in blindly will only lead to disaster." He steeples his fingers, a calculating gleam in his eyes. "No, we must plan this carefully. Only through meticulous strategy can we ensure success in our revenge against this Sam Briar."

Kendrick's jaw tightens, but he nods reluctantly. "Very well, Father. I will trust your judgment on this matter." He leans back, his eyes narrowing. "But mark my words, that developer will pay for his insolence."

Alistair nods, already considering the various avenues of approach. "Patience, my son. In due time, this Sam Briar will tremble before the might of the Thornfield family."

Alistair turns to Alaric. "Can you bring this Sam Briar to us?"

Alaric's lips curl into a slight smirk. "That can be arranged, but it will come at a cost."

Alistair nods, unfazed. "I don't mind paying the price. This needs to be handled delicately."

"Very well." Alaric's gaze hardens. "I'll make the necessary preparations."

Alaric leaves, leaving Kendrick and Alistair alone. Alistair turns to his son, his brow furrowed. "Kendrick, your aggression towards this Sam Briar concerns me. We must approach this matter with caution."

Kendrick's jaw tightens, his eyes narrowed. "What does it matter, Father? He's the reason we're in this predicament to begin with. The Silverstones attacked us on his behest. He needs to pay for his insolence."

Alistair sighs, his fingers steepling as he considers his son's words. "I understand your anger, but recklessness will only lead to more trouble."

Kendrick's jaw tightens as he considers the possibility that Sam's actions are connected to Yuna. His eyes narrow, the gears in his mind turning as he pieces together this new information. Rage bubbles within him, the desire to lash out at the developer growing stronger by the moment.

Alistair observes his son's reaction, sensing the building storm of emotions. He clears his throat, drawing Kendrick's attention. "Kendrick, I see the wheels turning in your head. But I must caution you - your thirst for revenge could be your undoing."

Kendrick's gaze snaps to his father, his expression a mix of defiance and barely contained fury. "How can you say that, Father? This developer has dared to cross the Thornfield family. He must be made to pay for his insolence."

Alistair raises a hand, his voice firm. "You still have much to learn, my son. Reckless action will only invite more trouble upon us. We must tread carefully, consider our options, and strike when the time is right."

Alistair continues, "The Silverstone family has made a move for this Sam Briar. He must have some value to them, some leverage, to warrant their attention." He steeples his fingers, his gaze stern. "And if the Silverstones have taken an interest in him, then he must be under their protection as well."

Kendrick's jaw tightens, but the fire in his eyes begins to subside. Alistair raises a hand, his voice firm. "I know your anger, my son, but we must be patient. Alaric and his men will handle this matter as promised. We cannot afford to act rashly and jeopardize our standing in the city."

Kendrick nods, his expression still tense but his anger somewhat subsiding. "Very well, Father. I will trust your judgment on this matter."

Seeing his son calmed down, Alistair is satisfied.
