Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Chapter 72: Chapter 72

Sam and Yuna return to the simulation, their minds brimming with inspiration after witnessing Aria's captivating ballet performance. Bayonetta's movements, once a challenge, now flow with a newfound grace and elegance.

Yuna carefully sculpts Bayonetta's lithe form.

"Watching The Moonlight Reverie really did the trick," she muses, her eyes sparkling with concentration. "Aria's performance was the perfect reference for Bayonetta's dance-like combat style. We have to thank Gail again for the tickets."

Sam nods, his brow furrowed in focus as he adjusts the timing and fluidity of Bayonetta's attacks. "You're right. Gail is really a godsend for us."

The two developers continue to refine the movements. Bayonetta's spinning kicks, her elegant dodges, and the summoning of her demonic allies all come together in a seamless, captivating display.

After hours of meticulous work, Sam and Yuna step back, admiring their creation. "There," Yuna says, a satisfied sigh escaping her lips. "Bayonetta is ready to take the stage."

Sam nods, his gaze fixed on the simulation. "Yes, she is. And I can't wait to see what she'll do next."

Bayonetta twirls gracefully, her long hair flowing like a dark waterfall around her. With a coy smile, she strikes a pose, one hand on her hip as she regards the developers.

"Let's dance!" she purrs, her voice dripping with playful allure.

Sam and Yuna focus on working out the other details of the simulation, satisfied with how Bayonetta turned out. In the original Bayonetta game, there were many stages set in different locations and cities. Since it is a simulation, Sam wants to make the cities explorable for the players instead of being linear as in the original game. Drawing on their knowledge of the source material, they begin to map out the various districts and landmarks that would make up the virtual world.

They scattered hidden collectibles throughout the virtual city, offering unique rewards for those who ventured off the beaten path. Shortcuts and secret passages were added to the environment, rewarding the players who explored. Intriguing NPCs with side quests were also added, which was a suggestion by Yuna to enhance the rich lore and history of Bayonetta's world.

Sam and Yuna also edited the surroundings to change in certain boss fights. The environment would shift and morph, creating a more dynamic and challenging arena for the player to navigate. For example, during the battle against the angelic foe Fortitudo, the city streets would become flooded, forcing the player to use their mobility and platforming skills to outmaneuver the massive beast.

They also added puzzles for players to solve throughout the simulation. These puzzles ranged in difficulty, testing the player's creativity and observation skills. Some required the use of Bayonetta's unique abilities, such as Witch Time, to slow down time and interact with specific elements. Other puzzles involved finding missing pieces, like statues or artifacts, hidden within the expansive virtual world.

One such puzzle had the player searching for three ancient seals scattered across the city. Using Witch Time, they had to carefully time their movements to avoid detection by the patrolling angels and reach the seals without being spotted. Once all three were collected, a hidden passage would open, leading the player to a powerful weapon or item.

Sam and Yuna also added the Alfheim or the secret room challenges for the simulation. Each challenge has different requirements to clear. Completing them would reward players greatly.

The Alfheim challenges are hidden throughout the virtual city. These tests of skill demand Bayonetta to utilize her full range of abilities, from precise platforming to intense combat. Unlocking the secret rooms often means navigating treacherous environments, solving intricate puzzles, or facing powerful adversaries.

For those who succeeded, the rewards were substantial - unlocking abilities, powerful upgrades, and even glimpses into Bayonetta's past. Sam and Yuna hoped these challenges would encourage players to explore every corner of the simulation, pushing the boundaries of what was possible.

Sam and Yuna exchange satisfied glances as they admire their handiwork. "I think we really nailed it this time," Sam says, a proud smile tugging at his lips.

Yuna nods enthusiastically. "Definitely. I can't wait for Aria and the others to try it out."

The two developers brimming with excitement, eager to see the reactions of their colleagues and players.

Sam remembers the Monster Hunter simulation. He has not checked on it since the release because he was focused on making the Bayonetta simulation.

"Hey, Yuna, how's the Monster Hunter simulation going?" he asks, leaning against her desk.

"It's been amazing! The gem has an abundance of stocked mana, and the players are loving it." She pauses, tilting her head slightly. "Speaking of mana, are you planning to absorb it soon? We both worked on it, so the mana is shared between us."

Sam nods, crossing his arms thoughtfully. "You know, I was actually thinking you should absorb the mana first. I'm not in a huge rush to reach C-Rank right now, but your mana reserves are still a little above D-Rank, right? This could be a good opportunity for you to boost your mana reserves."

"Really? Are you sure? I know you've been working hard to get to C-Rank as well." She places a hand on his arm, a grateful expression on her face.

"Absolutely," Sam reassures her. "I'm almost there, and I can always work on C-Rank gems with you once you've reached that level. I want you to have the chance to grow and develop your skills further."

Yuna's smile widens. "Thank you, Sam. You're too kind. I'll make sure to absorb the mana from the Monster Hunter simulation as soon as I can. With your help, I know I can do it."

Sam nods, his own excitement building. "Great. Let me know if you need anything else, okay? I'm always here to support you."

Sam returned to focus on working on the simulation and did not notice the blush on Yuna's face. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the fluttering in her chest. Turning back to her workstation, Yuna immersed herself in fine-tuning the details of the simulation.
