Beyond Mortals

Chapter 12: Episode 12: The Dawn of Training

It was a crisp Monday morning as Nate and Alex made their way through the forest, the faint sounds of their school fading into the distance.

"Wait a second, this isn't the direction to school," Nate said, glancing over at Alex with a puzzled expression. "Are we seriously skipping?"

Alex nodded, determination etched across his features. "Yeah, I know. I have to train today. It's important."

Nate hesitated, crossing his arms. "But we can't just ditch school! What if we get caught? We have big tests this week!"

"I get that, but this is bigger than a test, Nate. The ring chose me for a reason, and I need to understand its power," Alex replied, his voice steady.

Just then, Leannah appeared beside them, her presence both commanding and reassuring. "Nate, I understand your concerns, but sometimes we have to prioritize the things that truly matter. Alex needs to learn how to control the ring's power before it spirals out of control."

Nate sighed, still torn. "Alright, I guess I understand. I'll be here to motivate you, but you better not let this throw everything off course."

As they reached the clearing, Leannah surveyed the surroundings, sunlight filtering through the canopy and illuminating a perfect training spot. "Let's begin," she said, her voice imbued with authority.

"Today, we'll explore what the ring is truly capable of."

Alex took a deep breath and closed his eyes, focusing on the warm glow of the ring resting on his palm. Leannah instructed him to channel his energy, guiding him to visualize the strength of the ring. After a moment, Alex opened his eyes, excitement igniting within him.

"What can it really do?" Nate asked, curiosity bubbling beneath his skepticism. With a knowing smile, Leannah stepped closer.

"With deep concentration, the ring can summon any golden weapon, like swords or spears, crafted from pure energy. You can also conjure a shield that can protect you from harm. And when you're ready, you'll unlock the finisher—a burst of golden fire that surrounds your arm, amplifying your strength. If you manage to unlock the true secrets of the ring, it can summon a dragon—a guardian that will fight alongside you

." Nate's eyes widened, astonished. "A dragon? How do I unlock that?"

"That comes with mastering your connection to the ring," Leannah explained. "You'll need to face challenges and push your limits. The bond between you and the ring will grow stronger with every trial."

Just as Alex began to concentrate on summoning the energy, the atmosphere shifted suddenly. A chill swept through the clearing, causing the leaves to rustle ominously. A figure materialized before them—a tall, shadowy servant cloaked in dark robes, with burning ember-like eyes.

"You dare to train, young bearer of the ring?" he asked smoothly, laced with menace.

Nate's eyes narrowed at the newcomer. "Who are you?"

Leannah stepped protectively in front of Alex. "You're a servant of the Dark Master. What do you want?"

The servant smirked, sharp teeth glinting from under his hood. "I come with a warning. The Dark Master knows of your training. He suggests you abandon this foolish quest for power or face the consequences."

Alex felt a surge of fear but tried to stand tall. "I will not join him," he declared, determination ringing clear in his voice.

The servant laughed, a low, mocking sound. "You think you can confront the forces of darkness? You're playing a very dangerous game."

Nate clenched his fists, ready to step in, but Leannah raised a hand to stop him. "We're not afraid of you or your master. We know what the ring can do."

The servant stepped closer, shadows swirling around him. "I'll tell you this: there are dozens of servants like me, each empowered by the Dark Master. They watch and wait for a moment of weakness. In the end, you can't escape the darkness."

Nate furrowed his brow, curiosity piqued amidst the tension. "Wait, this is a different servant from before. Just how many are there?"

Leannah's expression hardened. "The Dark Master has many servants, and each one seeks to undermine us in their own way. We must be vigilant."

With a smirk, the servant began to dissolve into shadows, leaving behind a lingering chill that hung heavily in the air. "You've been warned," he hissed. "Prepare for the storm that will come for you."

As the clearing returned to its normal sounds, Nate turned to Alex, discomfort still evident on his face. "You okay? That was intense."

"I'm fine," Alex replied, though his heart raced. "But we need to stay focused. We can't let fear stop us."

Leannah nodded, a fierce determination in her eyes. "You've shown great strength today, Alex, but we need to train harder and prepare for what's to come."

As they resumed their training, the shadow of the Dark Master loomed large in their minds. With every moment, they knew they were not only fighting to control the ring but also to protect themselves from a dark fate that threatened to engulf them all.
