Chapter 7: Chapter Seven
Aurora thought to herself, she would be willing to eat mushroom that terrified her just to give herself a chance of escape. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to escape from the tightly guarded Onyx Garden even if she had wings.
Shortly after a lunch, a nurse came to help Aurora with her IV drip. The procedure lasted for an hour and a half before the nurse returned. Aurora noticed the nurse's head was lowered and her eyes flashed with a cold light.
Ten minutes later, a nurse wearing a mask and uniform emerged from the room, holding a removed tube and an empty medicine bottle. She threw them into the medical waste bin and walked towards the elevator, not stopping at the nurse's station. Aurora knew this was not same nurse as before.
Fully geared up, Aurora entered the elevator. As the doors were about to close, a hand suddenly stopped them. "Sorry," said a doctor from another department who had just entered.
Aurora didn't say a word and kept her head down. When the elevator reached the third floor, she pressed the button and headed straight for the exit.
She needed not to be told what next to do. Immediately she stepped outside, she took off her heels.
Aurora hastily hailed a taxi and rushed to the train station.
She quickly retrieved her phone from her bra and dialed her friend, Mia's number. "Are you at the train station?" Aurora asked, her voice tinged with urgency.
"Yes, I'm here. Where are you?" Mia replied.
"I'm on my way! Please wait for me," Aurora exclaimed before hanging up. She then urged the taxi driver, "Please drive faster. I'm in a hurry."
Aurora had meticulously planned her escape. She had asked Mia to purchase her train ticket and wait for her at the station.
Aurora knew that by now, the hospital staff would have discovered her disappearance. It was only a matter of time before they raised the alarm.
Mia stood near the security checkpoint, patiently waiting for Aurora's arrival. She couldn't understand why her friend was in such a rush to leave for another city. It seemed as though Aurora was being pursued.
Thirty minutes later, Aurora ran towards Mia, her breathing rapid. "Mia, give me the ticket! Remember, we must stick to the plan. I'll go first and call you once I arrive. Then you'll send the kids over," Aurora instructed, her voice firm.
As Mia handed over the ticket and ID, she asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"I'll explain later," Aurora replied, her eyes darting around anxiously. "I don't have time now."
With a heavy heart, Aurora reluctantly let go of Mia's hand and rushed towards the security checkpoint.
As she disappeared into the crowd, Mia called out, "Aurora..." Her voice was tinged with concern and confusion.
After clearing security, Aurora waited anxiously for her train. As she boarded the train and waited for departure, her anxiety intensified.
Gazing out the window, she felt a pang of guilt towards Mia. Aurora knew that her departure this time might be permanent, and the likelihood of her returning was slim. Yet, she had no choice.
She couldn't bear the thought of remaining under Maverick's control.
Aurora glanced at the clock repeatedly, growing increasingly anxious as more passengers boarded the train.
Minutes later, Aurora's heart began to calm down as the train prepared to depart. However, it stopped abruptly when it turned a corner.
At first, Aurora thought it was a normal delay, but as the minutes ticked by, the train remained stationary.
"Why aren't we moving?" someone asked.
"I don't know..."
"I'm in a hurry," Aurora muttered, more anxious than anyone else on board. But she could only endure the wait.
Suddenly, the door to the first-class cabin swung open. Aurora's eyes widened - this was unusual. She glanced out the window and her blood ran cold. Six or seven men, dressed in suits, walked towards the train with an air of purpose.
The men entered the cabin, their eyes locking onto Aurora. They approached her and said, "Miss Harrison, please come with us."
Aurora's body trembled as she pressed herself against the seat. Her face was pale and helpless as she gazed at the men surrounding her.
The other passengers on the train were silenced by the intimidating atmosphere.
"Miss Harrison, we wouldn't want things to get physical," one of the bodyguards threatened.
Aurora longed to escape, but how could she? Even the train's schedule seemed to be under Maverick's control. His power was suffocating.
The bodyguards escorted Aurora back to the Chen Villa. As she stepped onto the garden's stairs, her legs weakened, and she almost stumbled.
Would she face punishment again?
Memories of Maverick flogging her few days ago flooded her mind, and her body trembled with fear.
Upon entering the hall, Aurora's eyes met Maverick's cold, dark figure sitting on the sofa. She instinctively retreated but bumped into the bodyguard behind her.
"Lost your way?" Maverick's gloomy voice echoed through the hall.
Aurora bit her lip, struggling to contain her trembling. Maverick's words were laced with sarcasm; he knew she wasn't lost.
Maverick rose from the sofa, his elegant strides devouring the distance between them. Aurora's nerves stretched taut as she gazed up at him, terrified.
"Pretending to eat soy sauce and escaping from the hospital, Aurora," Maverick said, his voice commanding yet devoid of anger. "I didn't expect you to have such courage."
Aurora trembled, and Maverick's dark figure loomed closer. In desperation, she turned and pushed the bodyguard behind her.
Before she could resist further, a large hand clamped down on the back of her neck, causing her to cry out in pain.
"It hurts..." Aurora whispered.
"You still don't understand your position," Maverick growled, his eyes glinting with malice.
Aurora struggled to speak, "Let me...let me go...".
Maverick dragged her by the neck into the elevator and up to the massive steam room on the top floor. Aurora tried to resist, but his grip was too strong.
The glass door slid open, and before she could react, Maverick shoved her inside. The door closed, trapping her.
