Chapter 53: Soldier!
Chapter 53
...
Three more days passed, each longer and more exhausting than the last.
My joy had completely dried up, and I had lost all patience in that cold cell. I couldn't wait any longer.
I stood up suddenly, tense, in front of the rusty iron bars, and let out a cry that pierced the silence of the dead corridors:
"Soldier! Soldier! I want to talk to the commander! Now!"
My angry voice echoed in the dark corridors. I repeated my call, raising my voice with each shout, turning it from a request into a command, and finally into a challenge:
"Soldier! Are you deaf, or are you too cowardly to come in? Soldier!"
This time, the response came quickly. A few moments later, a wooden door opened and a harsh voice came from behind it: "What?! What's all this shouting at this late hour?!"
Kaya, the guard with the mustache, appeared, raising his weapon.
"What do you want, you troublesome prisoner?!" he asked, his eyes narrowing.
I slowly raised my head toward him, a sly smile on my lips. "Oh, nothing much, soldier. I just remembered some information...
Some very important information that might interest the commander. I think he'll like it." It was just bait, a lie to get me out of this damn place without using my magic. Kaya's eyes widened slightly, and a sneer appeared on his thick lips. "Finally, you admit it, you stubborn fool?
The commander, with his unmatched intelligence and wisdom, never makes mistakes. Step back, prisoner, and don't try anything funny, or you'll regret it!" He advanced toward the bars, his weapon raised.
With quick steps, Kaya approached the bars and inserted a key into the lock.
Click!
The iron door opened. "Come forward!" he ordered in a low voice, walking directly behind me, his weapon raised and alert. He thought he was in control, but he had no idea what was going through my mind.
We advanced down the narrow corridor and arrived at the same room where I had been interrogated earlier.
I quickly scanned the surroundings: complete silence, no sign of other soldiers, and the place looked deserted. There were two closed doors in front of the room I had entered, and I couldn't see any light coming through the cracks. This was the moment.
When we entered the room, I slowly raised my hands, as if I had completely surrendered.
I turned to him and put on a different expression. "No need to be so serious, man. I can help you get close to Nera, that beautiful girl... I'm good with women, believe me." I said and winked at him, trying to distract him. My real goal was his weapon, to wrest it from his grip.
"What are you doing, you idiot? Turn around and face the wall!" Kaya shouted angrily, his voice rising. He tried to raise his weapon at me, but I was faster.
"I said I'd help you, oh my back! My back. My back hurts all of a sudden! Help me, soldier!" I suddenly leaned my body on him, pretending to be in excruciating pain in my back, trying to make him think I was suffering from a sudden slipped disc. I didn't want to use magic and appear as a wizard at this critical moment.
After all, I didn't want to arouse suspicion or face another Thayron or Kayyan. I'd had enough of their madness. "What are you doing? Get away from me!" Kaya shouted, trying to push me away with his weapon, but as soon as he moved his weapon close to me, I launched my attack.
I threw my body at him with all my weight. He didn't expect my sudden attack, so I succeeded and we fell to the ground together.
I pinned Kaya's stomach with lightning speed, pinning his body under my weight. I didn't give him a chance to breathe.
I started punching him in the face with quick, powerful blows, showing no mercy. Each punch landed on his face with a loud thud, and soon his face turned red and swelled up like a ripe watermelon, with blood pouring from his nose and mouth.
After he lost strength, I tried to reach his weapon, which was lying next to him.
However, at that exact moment, the door to the room opposite us suddenly opened.
The door opened slowly to reveal the commander, yawning profusely. His body looked thin and his chest was bare, and he was wearing strange pants with yellow stars on them, as if he had just woken up from a deep sleep and was going to the bathroom.
"What the hell is going on here?!" the commander shouted angrily, his eyes still half-closed from sleep.
I looked at him and laughed sarcastically, "Of course, if I told you we were playing a game, you wouldn't believe me, right?"
