Chapter 147: Chapter 146 - The Villain of Orario.
[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]
Third Person POV
Orario.
...
...
BOOOM!!!
Echoes of destruction
The explosion went on for a while, everything shaking violently, relentlessly destroying everything in its path, wiping out a part of the slum from the map.
Cries of horror and fear echoed throughout the city as gods, residents, and adventurers all looked on at the scene, an enormous plume of smoke rising, the echo of the blast still lingering in the air.
The light of the explosion finally faded, with only the smoke trail visible, illuminating the devastated area.
"Lucius!!" Riveria couldn't help but exclaim, seeing that Lucius had been caught in the middle of the explosion while she stood outside the slum, feeling empty after channeling her magic to him.
Finn, Ottar, Bell, and other adventurers were gathered around the destroyed area.
"Lucius-san... will he be alright?" Cassandra clasped her hands together, looking at the scene with worry.
The explosion finally began to die down, with no sign of Lucius or the monster, leaving everyone in suspense.
"Lyd! Are we safe from that monster...? And if we are... we're surrounded." A Xeno muttered as the entire group found themselves in the midst of Orario's highest-ranking adventurers.
Most were still focused on the explosion, but many eyes were on them, with looks far from favorable.
"We need to wait and see if Lucius is alright." Lyd spoke, and the Xenos around him agreed, despite the grim situation with the city's strongest forces present.
As everyone waited for some outcome from the battle and the explosion, the voice of Ouranos emerged at that moment, addressing the entire city.
"The beast has been destroyed..." he declared, and the majority sighed in relief. However, some, like Ottar, had a slightly frustrated look, his eyes searching for Lucius, as he was not the one to have slain the beast.
Riveria and many of Hestia's family members were now worried about Lucius, but they knew he wouldn't be easily killed.
"Finn..." Gareth murmured, turning his eyes away from the explosion and heading toward the Xenos.
"Yes... now we have to deal with them or whatever they are," Finn said, and this thought began to take root in the minds of many adventurers.
"This..." Welf murmured, watching as the Xenos began to be surrounded.
"..." Riveria didn't know what to do, as her captain seemed to view them as enemies, while Lucius had protected them and claimed they were his friends.
"Damn it... what are you doing..." Tsubaki muttered.
"..." Mama Mia was also part of the battle alongside Orario's strongest adventurers. Her gaze fell on Bell's group, seeing that his former family didn't seem to care about the situation, like the other adventurers. Yet, she still seemed somewhat worried about Bell and the others.
"This is bad... we have to get them out of here..." Fels muttered, floating in the air as he observed the situation, his gaze falling on the aftermath of Lucius's explosion, hoping he would come to help if he was alright after this.
"We're surrounded..." Gross muttered as they noticed adventurers beginning to view them as enemies, far from Knossos' entrance in the slum.
"What should we do with them...? They're monsters, right?" Questioning voices arose as everyone started to encircle them.
"Why are they acting like this... Didn't we fight together?" Ray murmured.
"That's how they are..." Gross replied.
"Lyd, what should we do..." Another Xeno muttered.
"I...Hm?!" Before Lyd could answer this difficult question, all the Xenos and adventurers were stunned as dozens of blue spheres with indecipherable symbols appeared, covering all the Xenos and Hestia's family in the midst of them.
"This... Lucius?" Riveria looked towards the smoke of the explosion, knowing that only one person could do this.
"You will be teleported. Get out of here as quickly as possible... Enter Knossos and go to the dungeon, and don't forget to close the doors. I want you to keep Hestia's family with you until things calm down. I'll handle the rest." Lucius's voice echoed from within the time sphere, only audible to those inside.
"Wait! Lucius-Sama.... you're not planning to stay here alone?!" Haruhime exclaimed.
"Someone has to stay... And I believe I can handle things," Lucius replied, knowing that he had a far better chance of turning the situation around with the connections he had, even without Freya as an obsessive lover like Bell had, since he had Ouranos and many gods had made deals with him.
Aisha, Ryuu, Cassandra, Lili, Daphne, Bell, Welf, and Haruhime could only remain silent, watching Lucius's decision without being able to do anything.
"Lu-Chi..." Lyd murmured as all the spheres began to disappear along with the Xenos and the others amidst the area surrounded by adventurers.
"They escaped!" Finn muttered, his gaze falling on the destroyed area, sensing that they had been teleported there. However, they still had to deal with Lucius and his troublesome teleportations...
"Sorry, everyone." Then, Lucius's voice emerged as he walked over the destruction, his clothes nearly torn to shreds except for his pants, revealing to everyone that despite being a mage, he possessed an athletic, muscular physique—something only Riveria had seen before.
"Lucius..." Tiona murmured as all the eyes of the city fell upon him.
"He's staying behind to be captured, and we're fleeing...?" Daphne remarked cautiously.
"Lucius must have a plan... We should trust him," Erebus commented, while everyone seemed conflicted for a moment before nodding.
"Alright, ... Lu-Chi is doing this because he can handle it. Let's go!" Lyd made a somewhat difficult decision, but he started walking, and the others followed suit. Even Hestia's family, though a bit frustrated, also followed, hoping that Lucius could handle the situation. The Xenos who had stayed out of the fight were following Wayne all the while, and now they moved along with the still-unconscious girl.
Fels felt them leaving the area, while Lucius stood facing all of Orario's adventurers, despite being visibly injured and tired.
"Lucius Drakenar... you're letting them escape..." Finn spoke, more as an accusation.
"You could say that... I won't let anyone get past me," Lucius responded, still keeping his gaze on them, while they clicked their tongues and gritted their teeth.
"They're my friends... They fought alongside you and bled with you against the Juggernaut, and now you want to attack them afterward? That's a bit cowardly of you, don't you think?" Lucius asked calmly.
"But they're monsters!" someone shouted from the crowd.
"That's right, why are you helping monsters?"
"I admired you! Now I see you're a traitor!"
Protesting voices rose from all around Lucius, but he remained still, his eyes fixed, waiting for the first to act.
His gaze landed on Riveria, who was looking at him alongside other members of her family, like the twins, Aiz, and Bete. After that, his eyes shifted to Mama Mia, who was watching from atop one of the houses with a certain look of respect.
'I don't know if you're right in this, but you're certainly firm in what you believe, and I respect that.' Lucius read the lips of the giant level-6 dwarf as she mouthed the words silently from that distance.
"Lucius Drakenar, you are being taken into custody!" Shakti appeared at that moment with the entire Ganesha family.
"..." Lucius said nothing, his eyes glancing towards a corner, hoping the Xenos were finally entering Knossos. The entrance to Knossos hadn't been affected due to its durability. Lucius's attack hadn't made a large hole in the slum, but it had cleared the area, leaving only the entrance intact, which was exactly where the Xenos and the others were, as they finally entered the place filled with cages and some beasts that had survived the battle, still roaring, with the place littered with bodies.
"We should pull that lever; it will close the door," Erebus commented, as they ignored the bodies, even those of the gods, since the Juggernaut had spared no one.
As one of the Xenos pulled the lever, the door began to close at that moment, and everyone sighed in relief. "Let's return to the dungeon and wait for news of Lu-Chi," Lyd remarked as they all started heading in that direction, leaving behind the monsters and corpses.
"..." Lucius seemed aware of this as he looked at the adventurers and sighed before turning back to them with a calm gaze and a smile.
His legs gave out at that moment as he felt them collapse beneath him, kneeling on the ground and surprising everyone. He raised his hand, unable to stand any longer, as the stress had pushed his body to its limit.
"Well... I surrender." Lucius raised his hands in surrender, remaining on his knees, as not even potions or his healing abilities could aid him now.
"..." Shakti couldn't believe it at first, trying to gauge if Lucius was genuinely giving himself up.
"..." Everyone remained silent for a moment, seeing Lucius in that state. Even if he wanted to escape, he couldn't, not in his current condition. After all, he had used his powers to teleport all the Xenos away from there. It wasn't that he lacked magic, but his mind was exhausted from taking so much damage and fighting throughout the entire night.
It didn't take long for a group of adventurers to rush towards him, quickly holding their weapons to his neck.
"What a warm welcome. Can't you just put some chains on me and take me to prison? Do we need all this theater?" Lucius mocked, seeing Finn and many other adventurers with their weapons pointed at him.
Despite their irritation at his remark, Ganesha's family approached and began to place anti-magic chains on him, a material used in traps that reduced his power.
"Take him away," Shakti ordered as Lucius began to be escorted, struggling to walk out of there, maintaining what dignity he had left.
Almost the entire city watched as he was taken, and a figure stepped in front of him. "Hestia..." Lucius murmured.
"..." She said nothing, looking at him with closed lips, unsure of what to say.
"Hestia-sama... as the goddess of the family to which this man belongs, you will be summoned for explanations. The Guild will inform you of the time of the hearing," Shakti commented, knowing she had no authority to detain a god, leaving that matter to the Guild.
"I'll go with him; he is my child," Hestia declared.
"Are you sure? You know there's an angry crowd ahead..." Lucius raised an eyebrow.
"It's alright, I'm your goddess, aren't I? I don't know what happened there... but I trust your actions..." She said, standing by his side as they continued walking.
"Thank you." Lucius couldn't help but feel somewhat touched by Hestia's determination.
Hestia only smiled. "They escaped, didn't they?" she couldn't help but ask as Lucius nodded.
"The adventurers are searching the rubble. I managed to trick them for a while, making them think I could stop them from passing. That gave enough time for the others to head towards the dungeon again. Once things settle... they'll return," Lucius explained, and Hestia nodded.
Just as Lucius had said, an angry crowd emerged, glaring at him with rage and even hatred.
"My house! You destroyed my house!"
"Why did you have to ruin our lives?!"
"Everything was fine until you and your pet monsters showed up."
"I hate you!"
"Traitor."
Lucius knew he would face such backlash from the people of the slum and the city. After all, he had ended up destroying the entire area, leaving these people without homes. But he didn't care; he kept his gaze forward with his head held high, and Hestia, who was also targeted, stood by her child, unwavering.
Lucius, once hailed as a hero of Orario, had, on this night, become its villain.
