Danmachi- Merchant of Orario

Chapter 35: Shot in the Dark

"Please?" Hestia begged.

"No," Domnus responded.

"Please?" Hestia asked.

"Never," Domnus replied.

"Pleeeaase?" Hestia dragged out.

"Refer to my previous statement," Domnus answered.

"Come on," Hestia pled, "Just one potion wouldn't kill you, would it?" Hestia asked trying to be convincing.

"It's not because it would kill me, it's because Bell has to learn," Domnus stubbornly refused, "Either through needing to take a break to heal, or through losing his money, he needs to know that actions have consequences," Domnus said.

"Goddess Hestia I'm fine," Bell told her, trying to calm Hestia down.

"Bell you are bleeding from your head and you finger is broken," Domnus said.

"See?" Hestia pointed out, "That's why he needs a potion," Hestia said.

"If he wants a potion, he can buy one," Domnus replied.

"How much are the potions?" Bell wondered.

"For the lowest cost potion? Thirty-four thousand valis," Domnus told him without pause.

"That's a little too much for me," Bell responded.

"Well then," Domnus shrugged, "Gues you have to wait to heal up to go back to the dungeon," Domnus commented sitting down on his chair.

"I think I'll be fine to go back into the dungeon after some rest," Bell said heading to the couch.

"Bell," Hestia whined, "You have a broken finger, you'll have to wait until it heals to go back out," she told him.

"I'll be careful I swear," Bell said with a yawn.

"Take a break tomorrow," Domnus told Bell, "It helps, trust me," he then vouched.

"Maybe," Bell said throwing a blanket over himself, "Maybe."

A new day starts, another opportunity for Domnus to sell thing to adventurers.

When Domnus got up to grab his bag and go over to his usual place, he saw Hestia lying on top of Bell. Both were in a deep slumber.

Bell's hand was propped up on the couch, even with Hestia sprawled on top of him his hand was perfectly placed up. Untouched, for both Hestia and Bell wanted it to heal.

It reminded Domnus of a time long ago, when he had broken his hand. And then he forced himself to work despite the injury.

It didn't go well; he actually broke another bone while trying to sell someone a sword.

Domnus was happy that he could stop someone else from going through the same thing that he had to go through.

————————————————————————

With the practice of unpacking many times before, Domnus had set up his stand and gotten ready for the coming adventurers.

He wasn't too sure what he was going to sell, but he was sure he was going to sell something. So, he reached into his bag.

Jiggling around his hand, Domnus eventually grabbed something and pulled it out. It was a bow.

It was the Demon Bow. Made from demonite it was a good bow that could shoot a powerful shot that would probably kill a monster.

Domnus wasn't one hundred percent sure that it could end a wide range of monsters due to not yet going into the dungeon himself, but at some point power is power, and he knew that the bow could put out enough of that.

Setting up the bow onto a little stand Domnus waited for someone to come up and ask about his bow.

"Excuse me," a woman said walking up to Domnus's stand, "Can you help me with something?" she said.

"Of course, does it have anything to do with this bow?" Domnus replied pointing at the Demon Bow.

"No," she responds, "I would like to know if you had any swords similar to this one," she said pulling out her short sword from her sheath.

The sword was in disrepair, Domnus doubted that it could even cut a leaf.

"Hmm," Domnus hummed taking a look at the sword, "I think I may have one," he said reaching into his bag.

After a minute Domnus pulled out a sword with a bright red hilt, a golden guard, and a slim silver blade.

"This is the Gladius, a good sword for stabbing," Domnus said showing off the sword to the adventurer.

"Looks good to me," the adventurer replied.

"Good," Domnus said, "Then this will be twenty-one thousand valis," Domnus told her.

"So," the adventurer thought, "Could trade in this sword to get a discount on that one?" she asked Domnus.

"That blade is not fit to be a letter opener," Domnus pointed out, "Calling it a sword is an extreme exaggeration," Domnus told the woman.

"Fine," the woman said grabbing her valis, "Twenty thousand, right? " she asked pulling out some money.

"No, twenty-one thousand," Domnus clarified.

"Are you sure?" she asked, "Money has been tight for me lately so," she began to say

"Twenty-one thousand valis," Domnus said.

"Aren't you a sweetheart," she mumbled as she handed over the money while taking the sword.

"Have a good day," Domnus waived goodbye as the adventurer left.

After waving off the adventurer Domnus took another look at the bow. Remembering that the dungeon was mostly a small, cramped environment, that could spawn monsters next to you, Domnus realized that perhaps a weapon what takes time to pull back and fire and works better at long distances would not be a great seller.

So, Domnus decided to switch out the bow for something similar, a wooden crossbow.

While Domnus did have repeaters that were similar to the crossbow, with the exception of being more powerful in about every way, he preferred the simplicity of the crossbow.

And the fact that the repeaters were a bit too powerful helped make his decision on which item to bring out.

With the bow back in storage and the crossbow now up for show Domnus hopped that now people would come to buy.

And come they did.

"Good day sir," an adventurer greeted, "May I ask about purchasing that crossbow?" he then asked.

"Of course," Domnus replied happy that his plan worked, "It can shoot arrows a half a meter wide which I also sell, and if you really want to pack a punch you can use fireworks as arrows," Domnus answered.

"Fireworks as arrows," the adventurer repeated, "Perhaps I should just stick to the normal arrows," he admitted.

"That is probably a good idea," Domnus replied, "So how does twenty thousand valis sound for the crossbow?" Domnus asked.

"That sounds good to me!" the adventurer responded taking out his valis.

"Thank you for the purchase!" Domnus said handing over the crossbow, "Have a good day."
