Chapter 7: joker and harley
Felix didn't know what he would feel upon seeing the Joker, and beside the Clown Prince of Crime stood Harley Quinn.
The Joker laughed as soon as he saw Batman and Bloodhound.
"Since when did the Bat get a new sidekick? And look who it is—Bloodhound from the criminal underworld. Welcome to the fun!"
Harley grabbed her mallet and looked at the Joker, as if awaiting an order.
"Alright, Bats, time to play! But first, let me lay down the rules!"
Joker's men rolled in a television screen, displaying twenty hostages.
Joker's grin widened. "Now, either you surrender, or these twenty poor souls become part of our little comedy act—permanently."
Felix stared at Joker without a single emotion on his face. Inside, an uncertain rage brewed, but something stronger than anger was confusion. He knew the Joker was chaotic, but standing face-to-face with him, his warrior instincts screamed that something was off.
Batman, as always, remained silent, his gaze fixed on the hostages.
Joker cackled at Felix's lack of reaction.
"Oh, Bloodhound! I've got a surprise for you! Hehehe! Maybe you're not as 'straight' as you think? You're part of the underworld, aren't you? And now you're here, standing beside a Bat? What a tragedy! But don't worry—I see the real you. Maybe we're all a little mad, hehehe!"
Harley twirled her mallet and stepped forward with a grin.
"Ooooh, the new kid doesn't talk much? That's a little boring!" she sneered. "Come on, boss, let's get some action!"
Batman, knowing Joker's games, didn't react.
"I won't let you do this, Joker," he said in an ice-cold tone.
He knew Joker was trying to manipulate him.
Then, he glanced at the terrified faces on the screen. There was no need for further debate.
"Enough talking," he said, his voice firm and unwavering.
Felix watched Joker carefully as Harley lunged at him. He dodged her swings with ease, his mind working to analyze the bigger picture. Joker never engaged in direct fights—he always had a trick up his sleeve. There had to be an escape plan.
Harley attacked again, but Felix anticipated her moves. When her mallet swung toward him, he ducked and slashed her wrist with a small knife. It was a shallow cut, but enough to slow her reflexes.
"Aaaah! You bastard!" she screamed.
Felix responded with nothing but a cold stare.
As Harley staggered back, Felix seized the opportunity and vanished in a blur of motion, reappearing in front of Joker within a heartbeat.
Joker's eyes widened, but he instinctively jumped back.
"Ooooh, you're fast!" he chuckled. "But I always have an escape plan, my friend!"
This time, Felix wasn't letting him escape.
As Joker reached for his pocket, Felix struck. His knee slammed into Joker's gut, knocking the air from his lungs. In the same motion, he grabbed Joker's wrist, stopping him from pulling out a grenade.
"Game over, Joker," Felix's voice was cold as steel.
Joker gasped for breath and giggled.
"Hah… Over? It's just beginning…"
A massive explosion thundered outside the building.
Felix's eyes met Batman's. In an instant, they both understood: Joker had been stalling them from the start.
Felix clenched his jaw. If Joker had really doomed the hostages to an explosion, they had mere seconds to fix this.
Joker, seeing Felix's expression, burst into laughter.
"So, what's it gonna be, Bloodhound?"
Felix turned to Batman. "If the explosion is real, go save the hostages. I'll handle these two."
Batman nodded and disappeared in an instant.
Felix began circling Joker and Harley, calculating his steps. The two of them laughed hysterically as he moved.
"Ooooh, you're taking me seriously?" Joker sneered. He reached for his pocket, but Felix's knife embedded itself in front of his hand before he could grab anything.
Joker let out a delighted laugh.
"Oh, you do have good reflexes! But tell me… are you fast enough?"
Felix blurred into motion. He was a ghost, a shadow darting through the battlefield. Harley barely had time to react before Felix closed in, but he wasn't after her—his target was Joker.
"Ah, ah! That's not fair!" Joker cackled, but before he could do anything, Felix's fist smashed into his throat.
Joker staggered back, coughing, but he still managed to toss a handful of small explosives to the ground.
BOOM!
The room filled with smoke and shrapnel.
Harley, gripping her mallet, waited for Felix to emerge from the fog.
"You son of a—! You hurt the boss!" she shrieked.
Felix remained silent in the smoke. He activated his thermal vision, scanning the silhouettes. Joker was retreating. Harley was bracing for a fight.
Felix knew Harley wasn't the real threat. Joker couldn't be allowed to escape.
He moved like a phantom, zeroing in on Joker.
Joker grinned, sensing Felix's approach.
"Hah! Now this is the kind of game I like!"
He reached for his gun. But it was too late.
Felix spun mid-air and delivered a devastating kick to Joker's wrist. The gun flew from his grasp, clattering against the wall. In the same motion, Felix grabbed Joker by the collar and slammed him into the ground.
Joker lay there, laughing through ragged breaths.
"Ahaha! Look at you! A real killer, huh? But let me tell you a little secret, buddy… I've already won."
Felix narrowed his eyes.
Harley's voice rang out:
"The bombs are still armed, you idiot!"
Felix quickly searched Joker's pockets but found no detonator.
"I'm not the one setting them off," Joker smirked. "They're already on a timer."
A thousand thoughts raced through Felix's mind. If Joker was telling the truth, Batman had only seconds to stop the detonation.
Felix locked eyes with Joker. "Stop this."
Joker burst into laughter. "Oh, what a fun idea! But no, I think I'll enjoy watching this instead."
Felix gritted his teeth. He quickly contacted Batman.
"Batman, we're out of time. The bombs are on an automatic trigger."
Batman's voice was calm and focused. "I'm manually defusing them. Buy me time."
Felix exhaled sharply. He lifted Joker by the collar and delivered a brutal punch to his face. But the clown's smile never wavered.
"Beating me won't stop the bombs, kiddo," Joker murmured.
Felix slammed him back down and turned to Harley. "Do you believe in his madness too?"
Harley hesitated before tightening her grip on her mallet.
"If the boss is right, then why are you still fighting?"
Felix stepped toward her. "Because in my world, scum like Joker don't get to win."
And then, Batman's voice came through.
"Bombs neutralized."
Felix turned to Joker. "Looks like your joke wasn't that funny after all."
Joker tilted his head and smirked.
"You know something, Bloodhound? You're not half bad. But remember… chaos never dies."
Felix didn't hesitate. He knocked Joker unconscious with a single, brutal strike.
"If chaos won't die, we'll kill it ourselves," he muttered.
Harley, stunned, tried to attack, but Felix swiftly restrained her.
At that moment, Batman entered.
"Joker and Harley are coming with us," he stated.
Felix cast one last look at Joker's unconscious body. An emptiness lingered inside him. Why was this man like this? Was there any point in trying to understand him?
He pushed the thoughts aside. Joker was a threat. And threats had to be eliminated.
Turning to Batman, he nodded.
"It's over."
Batman gave a small nod. "For now."
