Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space

Chapter 368: 368. Underestimate someone

Two days flew by in the blink of an eye. Hua Jin, with a bag full of motherly love containing steamed buns, mantou, and millet meat porridge, descended the mountain under the scorching sun after the noon meal.

Hua Yunao and the others were already accustomed to their sister's (or sister-in-law's) occasional disappearances. They went about their business without thinking much of it.

Hua Jin used her lightning speed to weave through the mountain ranges, arriving at Hua Village in even less time than before.

The scene she saw made Hua Jin's eyes sparkle.

In just a few days, no more than four, the village entrance wall had grown over a hundred meters long! Even space for a large gate had been left, although the height still needed to be increased. But it was already quite impressive.

In such a short time, Hua Jin had thought that at most, they could manage a few dozen meters. It seemed she had underestimated them.

Hua Jin smiled with satisfaction. It seemed it wouldn't take the several months she had imagined. Perhaps it would be done in one or two months.

Indeed, she was a little clever one. She glanced at the space left for the big gate; clearly, the next time she came, she would need to bring a big door.

When she returned, she'd have to talk to her father, for the gate would be his responsibility.

She didn't stay long. Seeing the sun setting, she found a forest, entered a space to fill her belly and took a rest. When she emerged again, it was already dusk.

Afterward, two beams of light flashed across the official road.

More than half an hour later, Hua Jin, now outside New Moon City, entered her space again. When she came out, fully armed, she disappeared from the spot and leaped directly toward the western city of New Moon City.

At that moment, three shadowy figures stumbled towards the far corner of a tent area in the western city.

"Cough cough... Big Brother, cough cough... Do those little brats really have medicine?" one of the shadows, thin and short, asked with a cough.

"Huff huff... Why is this road so long..." Another shadow gripped the stick in front of him tightly, panting heavily.

He nearly stumbled over a stone, and, already weak, he simply sat down on the ground.

He couldn't go any further... Huff, he was too tired.

"Cough... Big Brother, it's too dark, isn't it better to come during the day?"

His body couldn't handle a fall, so he couldn't help but complain.

The healthiest and tallest of the three glared at the two shadows beside him. "Do you think I don't want to come during the day? But do you think we'd manage to get any medicine if we came during the day?"

The whole tent district was filled with the infected, all waiting for medicine to save their lives. Unless they could make no noise, even if they snatched it, they wouldn't get away.

But that's impossible. Although they were just a bunch of little brats, during the day, it looked like their condition was much better than theirs. Truth be told, given their current state, he had no confidence; that's why he insisted on a night raid.

"Big Brother... But... do they really have medicine?"

He dreaded to think they might be making a wasted trip. Their bodies couldn't endure much more.

"They definitely do. In the past two days, when they fetched water, there was a faint medicinal scent on them. Though faint, I could smell it."

Hearing their big brother's confirmation once more, the two brothers felt somewhat reassured.

The shadow sitting on the ground firmly gripped the stick and slowly stood up, his motivation renewed.

If there was medicine, maybe the brothers still had a chance at life. Without it, there was truly no hope.

They were still young; they really didn't want to die.

"Maybe there's food too?" the man said gloomily.

Every time they had seen those two little brats lately, they looked markedly healthier, as if there was finally some flesh on their faces. They no longer seemed like skin and bones; clearly, they had been eating.

The remaining two, Wen Yan, had eyes that lit up, and they couldn't help but lick their dry and bleeding lips.

How long had it been since they'd eaten? Every day was just wild vegetables and water. The problem was, with their rapidly declining physical strength, even wild vegetables with water had become a luxury.

Their families were wiped out; wives and children were gone. Yesterday, only the three of them were left. Without food or medicine, they couldn't last two more days.

For survival... they had to fight, their eyes flashing with madness.

It's only a few little brats; surely, three grown men should be able to handle them.

Thinking this filled them with strength once more. They continued their staggering steps toward the dirtiest and most chaotic corner of the tent area.

Exerting almost superhuman efforts, the three men, panting heavily and enduring near-exploding lungs, finally arrived.

Now they were only steps away from the tent, and with great effort, they suppressed the itch in their throats, fearing they'd wake the little brats inside.

The three crouched on the ground, calming themselves before standing up again.

"Big Brother..." The two looked at their big brother in unison.

"Go... cough…" Despite trying to suppress it, he couldn't hold back a cough and quickly used his hand to cover his mouth, stifling the sound.

As a reflex, the three brothers crouched down once more. Once they confirmed no movement inside the tattered tent, they stood up again.

The two brothers looked to their big brother for direction, and once he moved, they quickly followed.

Carefully, they drew back the tent's flap. In the faint moonlight, a small figure lying inside slowly became visible.

The three let out a breath of relief; it was better than seeing nothing in pitch blackness.

"Big…" The word 'brother' was swallowed down at their big brother's warning glance.

In the weak moonlight, they searched the tent with their eyes, but aside from broken items and tattered bedding in the corner, there was no sign of medicine or food.

They weren't discouraged. It wouldn't be normal for anything to be so easily found; in times like these, lifesaving items wouldn't be left in plain sight. Everyone hid their supplies.

Following the tallest man's gesture, they cautiously stepped into the tent, hoping the child inside was sound asleep so they wouldn't have to expend more effort.

The first thing they did upon entering was each carefully move to a designated position as planned.

Things were going well, but they had overestimated their physical condition. A severe coughing fit surged up, and though the second brother used all his strength to suppress the itch in his throat, it was of little use. Even tightly covering his mouth with his hand, a burst of violent coughing rang out.

"Who's there?" The tent's children were awake now, especially the older Da Liu and Gouzi, who instinctively reached for the wooden sticks kept at their sides and stood up.

They simultaneously saw the three shadows in the tent, instantly understanding the situation.

Shocked and scared, they instinctively swung their sticks at the shadows in a frenzied attack, hitting them indiscriminately.

The scene unfolded too quickly; the three brothers couldn't react. Four or five sticks landed heavily on them.
