Chapter 9: Chapter 9
Soon.
The two arrived at the secret base.
Saigo looked around at the crude "base" and decided it wasn't even worth criticizing.
The so-called secret base was merely a concealed natural cave, no different from a primitive shelter.
However, for those who lacked the ability to sense Ki, it was indeed a well-hidden spot.
Firstly, the cave was located deep within the mountains, far from any settlements.
Secondly, the entrance was concealed amidst dense vegetation and scattered rocks, making it difficult to notice without close inspection.
Vines and weeds cleverly masked the cave's entrance, forming a natural barrier.
Finally, the cave's innermost chamber was spacious and flat, capable of accommodating hundreds of people. It was also extremely quiet, the only sound being the occasional drip of water from the ceiling.
At the moment, Saigo was alone in the cave. Vegeta III had already left to handle some prior arrangements.
"Time to start training!"
"Training makes me stronger!"
"Training makes me happy!"
"Let's go!"
After a round of self-motivation, Saigo dove into his usual training routine.
Meanwhile…
After returning, King Vegeta urgently issued three commands:
Halt all deployments of lower-class warriors to remote planets.Request Frieza's forces for assistance in broadcasting the Saiyan recall order to those who had not yet returned, emphasizing the Saiyans' hospitality for Frieza's upcoming visit to Planet Vegeta. For those whose status was unknown, dispatch personnel to confirm their survival.Effective immediately, all returned Saiyans were forbidden from undertaking any missions except locating their brethren. Preparations for welcoming Emperor Frieza to Planet Vegeta were to take priority.
Within a short time, these three orders were disseminated to everyone on Planet Vegeta.
No one, especially the Saiyans, could understand why King Vegeta had suddenly issued such commands.
Deploying lower-class warriors was a longstanding Saiyan tradition, yet now it was abruptly halted!
However, when they considered it was for welcoming Frieza, most were appeased, assuming this was the real reason.
After all, under Frieza's dominance, the Saiyans had no choice but to submit. They hoped this display of hospitality would earn them some respite in the future.
Frieza's informants among the Saiyans promptly relayed the news.
It wasn't long before Frieza himself was informed.
"Oh? King Vegeta actually issued these three commands?" Frieza wasn't lounging in his usual transport but instead sat elegantly at a white table, gently swirling a wine glass.
"Yes, Lord Frieza! We've triple-checked. Both our agents and King Vegeta's own people confirm the same orders," a pink-skinned alien with a face full of bumps reported respectfully.
Frieza continued swirling his glass, his eyes fixed on the shifting liquid. "Dodoria, why do you think these wild monkeys suddenly issued these orders? Could it be… they've caught wind of our plan?"
Thud!
The pink-skinned alien, Dodoria, dropped to his knees the moment he heard Frieza's words, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
"Rest assured, Lord Frieza! Our plan has not been leaked. I implore you to investigate thoroughly!"
Dodoria glanced nervously at a tall, green-haired alien standing nearby.
Understanding the unspoken request, the other alien also knelt without hesitation.
"Lord Frieza, I too can guarantee our plan remains secret. Please investigate!"
Serving Frieza was akin to walking a tightrope.
Both had grown accustomed to Frieza's temperament over time. They knew failing to speak up could cost Dodoria his life.
Frieza, still gazing at his wine, addressed the green-haired alien. "Zarbon, what do you think prompted the Saiyans to issue these commands?"
"Reporting, Lord Frieza. I believe the Saiyans are trying to curry favor with you in hopes of improving their standing within the army!" Zarbon replied without delay.
"Curry favor with me? That's not what I think. However, King Vegeta's actions do save us some effort. It'll make annihilating them all at once much easier!" Frieza's cold gaze swept over the kneeling pair as he continued, "Dodoria, Zarbon, since the wild monkeys are pleading for our help, let's grant their wish. It'll also enhance my reputation as a benevolent emperor who helps his subordinates. Hohoho~"
"Yes, we'll handle it right away!" both responded in unison.
"Wait. Temporarily suspend our plan for now. We don't want those monkeys catching wind of it."
"Understood!"
Watching them leave, Frieza raised his glass and downed its contents in one go, savoring the taste as he smacked his lips.
His leisurely demeanor suggested the earlier news was of little concern to him.
May 4
Training until 10 PM, Saigo's combat power increased by 50.
Since Vegeta III issued his commands and Frieza adjusted his plans, the mortality rate among Saiyans on missions significantly decreased.
Saigo didn't need to point it out; Vegeta III had already deduced that Frieza's forces had been orchestrating the Saiyans' high mortality rate during missions.
This realization enraged Vegeta III, who vowed to make Frieza pay.
However, what frustrated Vegeta III the most was that Vegeta IV refused to return immediately. To avoid jeopardizing the plan, Vegeta III had no choice but to let him be, praying for his safety.
May 7
Saigo learned through simulations that Frieza's arrival on Planet Vegeta was set for August 6.
Of course, this was merely a simulation, and real-life variables could alter the timeline.
For instance, the current Saiyan king wasn't Vegeta III.
With time to spare, Saigo decided to start simulating a way to learn the Yardratian technique Instant Transmission beginning the next day.
May 8
Saigo woke early and, seeing that Vegeta III hadn't delivered breakfast yet, began a simulation.
[May 8: After a brief lesson on energy control with 20 elite warriors, you, under Vegeta III's guidance, departed for the spaceship launch site and boarded a spherical spacecraft heading to Planet Yardrat.]
"Huh?"
"What's the rush to go to Planet Yardrat?"
"Are you out of your mind?"
Saigo mentally berated the simulated version of himself.
"Recklessly wandering off without sufficient strength? Absurd! Doesn't he know to keep a low profile?"
Shaking his head, Saigo disapproved of his simulated self's actions but continued watching.
[June 8: You successfully arrive on Planet Yardrat. The Yardratians warmly welcome you as an honored guest. However, upon learning you're a notorious Saiyan, they attempt to expel you.
You refrain from causing chaos, instead choosing to resolve the conflict diplomatically. Through your efforts, you earn an audience with the Yardratian Elder...]
